Tim - I so looked forward to your posts! I savour them like a new book I hesitate to start because it's read far too soon, or a dessert that deserves to be admired before it's eaten. Each video is beautiful in and of itself the camera work, the editing, the music and the dialogue. The art while stunning serves as a tool through which you share a bit of yourself. If I could give more than a thumbs up I truly would. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words, D C. :) That really means a lot and a thumbs up is very much appreciated and is more than enough. I'm making some adjustments at the moment which I hope means I'll be able to increase my upload rate without making changes to the videos themselves. 🤞 I hope that you're doing well!

Black & white photography/artwork gives us more to contemplate. We are actually intelligent human beings, who do not need to be fed all the detail. We are an inquisitive species, who enjoy an unfolding story made up in our own minds. B&W lends itself and encourages to a creative mind :)
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Год назад
Definitely agree that B&W encourages us to fill in gaps ourselves and add story in. That's actually something that was touched on the Medium article that I hadn't considered before, how without colour some things are indecipherable from one another, leaving them more open to interpretion. Thanks for your comment, Jennie! :)

Stunning and from some angles gave me more of an intergalactic feel....but then there isn't much I love more than a night sky full of stars, moon light and the clouds that glow in its light... I'm a big fan of black and white...sometimes from a artist value study but usually from a life values study... I like to remove all the superfluous and focus on what feels more foundational. Another great video ❤️

How interesting…I did three somewhat large encaustic paintings in black and white last summer. Two are vertical and tree/forest scenes. They’re moody and abstract. But the horizontal piece is a seascape. It’s full of mist and fury. I decided to do these black and white pieces for a few reasons. I love black and white photos. I knew it would be a challenge. As usual, for me, I never have a plan going in. I work intuitively. I documented the many changes the seascape went through before it decided it wanted to be a seascape. Looking back at those images now, the progression is not what or how you would expect it to turn out. Nor did I. But, I’m so very pleased with the results. Thanks for posing questions to your viewers. It’s refreshing to have a dialogue. Art is most often a solitary act. And we all have that need to connect.
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Год назад
Totally agree, Pat! It's cool to hear that you tried a black and white seascape as well, I think they're scenes that lend themselves to monochrome. I'd miss colour if it became my focus but makes for a refreshing change now and then. 😄

Hi Tim, Thank you so much for this moment of peace and quiet in these busy times. I always felt that BW photography and paintings (you are right, there are not so many of them around) are left with peaceful essentials of emotion. That’s why the BW photos of people are felt so deeply, the extra information of color is removed and we are left just with the raw feeling of the expression in the face, posture. I really enjoyed seeing the process of your piece, it is very powerful but also calm at the same time. Sending you sunny hugs from Canary islands! 🌞
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Год назад
Hello over in the Canary islands again! :) Absolutely, there can be something more emotional about black and white photography in particular, I agree. It's funny that with photography it seems easier to capture emotion in black and on the flip side with painting also introduces many more challenges. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the painting, I hope all is well. :)

@TimSchofieldArt Год назад
Hey John! Thanks for your comment, I'm glad that the videos help you keep painting. I think the spray that you're referring to is a varnish. I use it because I build my own frames for the paintings and present them without glass. Instead, I use an aerosol varnish to offer moisture resistance and additional UV protection. The ones that I use are Golden Archival Semi Gloss & Matte. I hope this helps! 😀

Thought provoking and whilst I do understand what you mean, I love the feel from black and white photography ( and I will try this instead of treating it like a value study !) Yet do you think a single colour can also convey a mood ? ...a feeling of joyful happiness with yellow ...green gives me a sense of calm, I associate each colour with a different mood..is black only useful for more sombre soulful art I wonder or is this a personal thing 🤔 ..just me pondering this idea
@TimSchofieldArt
@TimSchofieldArt Год назад
Hey Kaz! Thanks for your comment. It's an interesting question, perhaps there are a couple of things in there. The first thing that comes to mind is that any mood coming from a colour is going to have cultural roots in language, broadly speaking. Thinking of red for danger, passion, heat, etc - there's nothing particular essential about any of them, but they're all possibilities. The second thought falls out of the first, because I think that establishing a mood is sometimes (or always?) dependent on context. I'm reminded of music since an individual chord is just a sound and its how it's placed in relation to the rest of the chords used that make it meaningful. A single chord in one context can build tension and in another, provide resolution. Perhaps the same can apply to some extent with colours, the context being the other colours used and how they influence the look of the 'one colour' in this case. Who knows, maybe it's different for everyone! 😁
@kazfarndon4990
@kazfarndon4990 Год назад
@@TimSchofieldArt and that same single chord can be played in different ways, soft and quiet, staccato and loud etc just as our paint strokes can have many different nuances and so what surrounds that one mark can influence how it is perceived, just as a chosen colour can be influenced by its surrounding colour, yes ..

Hello. I hope I am not disturbing. I was curious to know if you have ever painted on one of your photographs? I know this sounds a bit like you would be destroying one piece of art to create another, but, to me, it is melding the two together, creating this work of wonder. My son is a photographer, and my daughter is a fine artist, and together, they have made beautiful creations. It was fascinating to see each artist’s work made into one. The feeling of one sparked a feeling in the other, and together they made something captivating as well as enchanting. I was just curious to see if another photographer/artist explored this kind of creation.
