Another black bear carving in the books! This was a fun and unique chainsaw carving since the bear had to fit around a vertical square beam! This was my first climbing bear, I will definitely do more because I'm super happy with how this cutie came out! He fits in perfectly at my parents cabin!

Thank you! I have had so many people say “I could definitely do that, easy” and I’m sure some of them could but until you are standing there with saw in hand staring at the log…it’s harder then it looks! I have a hard time visualize the carving at the beginning stages, definitely takes practice!

Good day TayMarie, I love the detail in your carvings. would love to see a tutorial on how to carve the climbing bear some time. Also I have the same Oregon saw that you use and I was wondering about the Quarter tip bar. Did you have to replace the sprocket to 1/4 pitch and if so where did you get it. Thanks for sharing.
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 Год назад
I got the 1/4 pitch sprocket from Saw Nuts. Here is the link: sawnuts.com/product-category/14-pitch-conversion-sprockets/ You will want the Mikita cordless sprocket for $12. Pop the E clip off, switch it out, E clip back. Fits perfectly and is super easy to change 😊

Hi I just started watching your videos, its amazing you can do this. I’m thinking about giving this a try, not sure, but I do whittle little projects Hillbillies, Gnomes, Bears and other cartoony things nothing to scale Where or how did you learn this?
@TayMarie23
@TayMarie23 Год назад
I learned through fire 😂 aka bought the saw, grabbed a log, watched a video on RU-vid about Chainsaw safety and just went for it! This is a hobby that you can really only learn though practice! You can watch all the videos in the world but until you have a general understanding of how to use the chainsaw, those videos don’t mean all that much! Get yourself a cheap residential chainsaw if you don’t have one, for electric I use (CS1500) or for gas (MS170), and just go for it! You will learn pretty quickly how the different parts of the bar cut! If you already have some experience and enjoy whittling I’m sure you will really enjoy power carving! Oh and ALWAYS use safety gear! I swear those wood chips aim for the eyeballs 😂

This specific chunk of wood was from a dead and fallen tree in my neighborhoods front yard, it had been dead for 2 years so no leaves/needles to help identify. But based on everything I have carved I’m pretty confident this was eastern white pine!

Everyone will tell you something different but I would recommend starting with a MS170, put a 12” arborist mini roller on it and just practice!
