Thank you, this type of stuff will help me going forward. Still playing tarantula guard since 1 Stripe White. Made blue belt finally seeing dividends with tarantula. PLEASE keep doing these. Thanks Professor.
The Commentary and Breakdown is amazing!!!! I hope you can find time to do more videos like this. I have been playing a lot of Tarantula Guard lately and this is a great help. Thanks Dom!
Thanks once again Dom. Great details here I can apply to my tarantula game. I just keep watching through your bjjfanatics instructional and drilling and working in the training. Thanks dude
Romulo Barral is the first person I saw popularize the position, but my girlfriend started calling it Tarantula Guard (like a bigger version of spider guard) as a joke and it sort of stuck lol
Bit of a segue. But I love your takedown tutorials and seeing you use a lot of cross-collar here wonder if you use that grip set for stand-up and if so how you protect your back. Maybe you can do a short youtube if there is something useful to show here? Thanks
thanks for posting this! Im glad to know im on the right path cause i do everything except "the money position" !! I seem to settle when the opponent decides to stay put. which explain why i can never get the armbar/triangle finish. Question: to do this elevation and to have him post on the mat, do you typically try to go overhead like in your video? (almost like you were doing a tomonage sweep?) i noticed you do the final touch with the kick up at 15:30. Can you achieve this reaction if he post at different angles? (lets say not just an overhead off balance but more like side to side?)
Side to side can work but your hips will be further away when you decide to shoot the triangle. In my course I show a variation that is similar to a spider scissor sweep, and you shoot the triangle when they post to defend the sideways off balance. It’s much more difficult than the overhead off balance though, as they’re far away and you have more distance to cover. I hope this helps
Im not extremely tall ( 6.0 or maybe little taller) and this guard is freakin awesome. Great control and ways of attack or getting to another positions. Still ive been trying to find my game, usually I play tarantula/spider or lasso/spider but ive also noticed that at the highest level most people that are not freakishly lanky play de la riva/single leg. Whats your thoughts Dom about this topic ( developing guard game to match your physical attributes) ?
