After playing the game you should know by now that appearances are decieving. The sky is fake, the hydro archon was fake, the Raiden Shogun was not the true archon, Rex Lapis did not die, Nahida has a child appearance despite being the archon of wisdom. There is always more beneath the surface. A nation of war not looking like a place of war? There's definitely more to it. Don't judge a book by its cover. The story has consistently proved time and time again that it has a dark undertone throughout its story.

The fact that Hoyoverse is an Asia-based company is not an excuse. Other Asia-based game dev companies, like Lilith Games & Devsisters, (makers of Dislyte & Cookie Run) have not problems with skin tone or ethnic diversity. America is not 'mostly black', the population is like 60% white, we make up around like 12% of the overall population. Also there are other big gacha games like FGO and Granblue Fantasy that have no issue making dark skinned characters. honestly the posts in the vid (except for Mauvika's hair, I know they were trying to go for more natural textured hair but it just looks off) actually look decent for once. Most people who try and do skin edits of genshin characters don't know how to pick brown tones properly so it looks weird as hell. People keep saying "they're not going to pull for dark skinned characters" but I want to see evidence of this. I understand the beauty standards in Asian countries, but when you have games like FGO, Azur Lane, GBF that have all been running for quite a while (GBF has been around since like 2014 and FGO since 2015) and have darker skinned characters...I fail to see how having dark skinned characters would be a bad thing. Especially if you're running a game that's GLOBAL, having more visually diverse characters will just bring in more people. There's not really a downside to it. If you're not willing to bring in characters that look like they're actually from the culture, I don't think you should be borrowing from said culture. Before someone thinks I'm saying all Natlan characters should be dark skinned, I'm not saying that. Even with black people, we run the gambit of being very stereotypically dark, to running fairly light where some people mistake them for being white. (My grandmother is that light, where during segregation she often was directed to the whites only section because of her skin tone. My mother and my oldest sister are also that light where I thought they were white when I was a kid.) I think Hoyo has some great artists, and they'd only improve by getting out of their comfort zone. But of course I'm going to have some chuds respond by talking past me. I don't hyperfixate on skin tone, but it's fucking weird if you're in a region where it makes sense to see darker skinned people and there barely is any or isn't any.

Why? Because the culture Natlan is inspired from real life countries and cultures. Like All the other regions. Of course as a white man you don't understand cause your whole life, race hasn't been apart of your life. So instead of making a stupid video about what people and their want of their cultures and backgrounds to be PROPERLY represented. Every region is not based or inspired by China or "pure fiction". Mondstadt has a lot of German design languages, names, cultural behavior and many other things. Liyue reflects China's culture perfectly. Inazuma explores and takes inspiration from Japanese culture. Sumeru has A LOT of South East Asia, Middle East, Persia and Egypt design languages, beliefs, cultures. Fontaine embraces France down to the names of the characters. So why Natlan, and Sumeru get to be the only two regions where all the inspiration is taken from cultures, but how the people who are apart of the cultures and what make the cultures, are left behind? Don't answer the question. I know you can't comprehend half of what I just said, cause you live a life where your skin color has no negative effects on you. You are white, privilege and everything in your life has already been paved out for you by your ancestors. And if Genshin shouldn't include "Political Topics" then maybe they should've design their whole game, and took inspiration from fictional worlds and went with unique cultures that don't exist in the real world.
@smartinro.
@smartinro. Месяц назад
Real France has more black people than Fontaine and no one said anything... Why is the skin color so important and hair color is not? Should they use voice actors from those regions or is it fine to use a white one for a black character? Should the characters wear traditional clothes too or that would be cultural appropriation? Where should the line between real and fictional be?
@Houdinii2
@Houdinii2 Месяц назад
@@smartinro. Why is the skin color so important and hair color is not? - Because people of color created cultures and celebrated who they are, while WHITE people were enslaving them, killing them, or taking their lands. That's why it is important to represent skin color WITH the culture, not just the culture alone. Should they use voice actors from those regions or is it fine to use a white one for a black character? - Although it would be nice to have skilled and talented VAs of the same ethnicity/race of a character to fully diversify the roles, it isn't an issue to hire different races for different roles. Nahida is inspired by Arab, and South East Asian cultures, but her EN VA is black. It's not about who should play who, but it is about who has the most skills while making sure if there are Voice Actors of color who meet the skills, then give them the opportunity. Should the characters wear traditional clothes too or that would be cultural appropriation? - It depends on the setting. Sumeru is high fantasy, ancient style setting that took inspo from traditional clothing of Egypt, Persia, Middle East and South East Asia. It's not culture appropriation clothing wise BECAUSE it respectfully took elements of these cultures and embraced them in a fantasy setting while being respectful. HOWEVER, the skin color of which the people who wear those clothes were left behind. The same people who were met with violence BY WHITE people for their skin color being darker than white. Where should the line between real and fictional be? - It goes back to how Hoyoverse created genshin. If Genshin was not reflecting real life countries and cultures, no one would complain. It is because Hoyoverse decided to reflect their designs on pre-existing cultures in REAL LIFE, that's where the issue stems with. Look at a lot of major Animes. No one is complaining about skin culture in Demon Slayer, Madoka Magica, One Piece ... etc BECAUSE the inspiration is either taken from cultures that skin color darker than light olive rarely exist, OR it is completely unique world with unique cultures. The main issue people have is Genshin too the cultures from IRL countries, but left the people behind to appeal to people like you, who either doesn't care about complete respect other cultures, OR who ONLY see white skin tones as the ONLY appealing skin tone. This is the boycotts main issue. Fine. Don't represent people of color and their skin tones, but also don't steal their cultures and put them in your game with a WHITE coating all over it. Trust me I'd be more than happy if genshin just went full on unique cultures, and fully fictional inspirations and kept majority of their roaster pale. But because my culture (Arab) and other people's cultures are glorified and taking into a game while people like me who are a part of the culture, don't have anyone that is nearly my skin tone, then yes it is a BIG BIG ISSUE.
@smartinro.
@smartinro. Месяц назад
@@Houdinii2 In other words: everything is subjective. Sumeru is good even if women don't wear hijab, but Natlan is bad because there is no Pantone... Following that reasoning, whether something is offensive or not will always depend on a subjective factor. Ultimately, whatever you do, it will be wrong in someone's eyes. That is why the correct position will always be to do things the way you want to do them and do not try to please anyone, because there will always be someone who is not happy.
@Houdinii2
@Houdinii2 Месяц назад
@@smartinro. I didn't say Sumeru was good. Sumeru also has the same issues as Natlan. Lack of proper representation of the people, and when represented (Candance, Cyno and Dehya) they have major flawed kits. Also, it's not subjective. In your brain it reads off as subjective, but it is as objective as it can be. If you make a nation that looks like south america and african then the characters should look south american and african. And no doing whatever I want without taking other people's backgrounds and feelings into consideration is selfish and childish. You say that, but some white people will be the first one to riot and cry over characters being black or tan like the recent little mermaid situation.

They talk about authenticity when many of them mock us when we point the inauthenticity of race swapping white characters. My conspiracy is that they want to get people familiar to a replacement of country demographics. I don't think most people doing this are black, I think most are white that give guilt instilled upon them and want to virtue signal. They largely don't have a problem with the game having disproportionately higher numbers of female characters being inauthentic to sell better. It comes off as performative. People are allowed their opinion, but to dictate others and call them racist is a big no. I wish the west would ignore them because so many of our companies listen to them and they only complain more.
