@@BravFive1 - You proved my point. The responsibility is on the parents. Rap and/or music isn’t responsible for people’s bad behavior. Yet I also remember Dr. DRE in the documentary "The Show" that this is just entertainment, we ain't killing nobody. Yet because younger artist make one RU-vid song with no hook. They shoot someone and they lump them into hiphop, yet 90% of their life is nothing hiphop. We will blame Snoop before we blame the movie Scarface. When it comes to movies, we let them slide, yet music we blame the artist yet its all the entertainment industry Deep discussion.

Very valid points brother. I would like to piggyback on that. I am a 70’s baby, the era of forced integration (I vividly remember states were still integrating schools when I was a young kid) and “Blaxploitation “ films. I literally watched the culture change. I witnessed our hero’s become the caricatures of the characters portrayed in those films. Outside influences (government programs, the wars on policy’s, the massive outsourcing of jobs, mass incarceration) were the fuel to the decay of our own images. We accepted the “bag” and along with it, as a culture we embraced the propaganda. I’ve been talking about this for decades, since my college days in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Once Hip Hop culture sold out and “we” lost control and again “sold out” for the bag, the music that was the voice of the people and had many artists that actually were teaching and giving “us” source materials, and knowledge through music…. even the samples were important linking us with artist from previous eras that most of us would’ve never learned about except for hip hop. Hip Hop became the soundtrack for these caricatures that “we as a culture “ embraced directly after the Blaxplotian era. It was during that era when I can remember the street culture taking complete control over our ethnic image. When the “Hood superheroes “ started coming “home” they were embraced…. a strange dynamic began when young brothers such as myself and a few peers became “Lames” for not embracing the street culture, for not embracing the drug dealers, hustlers and the “street life”. I believe that many of “us” don’t criticize movies, nor hip hop culture because we know it isn’t all bad. Yet we fail to realize that music, movies, and even literature are and have been weaponized against us. We don’t criticize also because as a collective we value “the money “ over everything.

Being "real" authentic is what the audience craved, 30 yrs later you gotta have a " wrapsheet" or bulletholes to be taken serious. And if we don't believe music has a impact on culture, matter of fact it is the pulse of culture, think how much influence the album the Chronic had on weed culture. That album and Snoop changed America's opinion on weed consumption, over time it wasn't overnight.
