I recently got this system and every possible attachment. I’m very pleased. The build quality of this drill is impressive and truly compares to other drills I have from dewalt, porter cable, craftsman, and others. In some cases, depending on “which” drill from these other brands you compare to, it could be argued it’s even better. An advantage to this system is the ability to get everything in one small tool bag and be out the door and ready to roll getting a task done. Yes, you can make the argument that if you just buy the cheapest power tools from Harbor freight or Walmart, they don’t cost any more than the attachments for this drill, and that is a valid point. I have some of those tools as well and they do just fine for the average homeowner. However, this thing really helps save space. I have separate power tools for these same jobs, but this system is downright cool. It is definitely underrated and doesn’t get enough publicity for the DIY person looking to buy their first power tools. Thanks for this video. I did not know about the ability to use porter cable batteries. You taught me something new! 👍 B&D definitely stepped up their game with this drill.

As long as you don't drop it from a 2nd story, which a Dewalt will take, or put it in a bucket of water like another testing channel does, and don't purposefully over stress the motor, the Matrix will compete with any 20 volt system. parts and support are very good and the batteries are everywhere. There's nothing like it. In particular the reciprocating saw has a unique configuration and after using on the Matrix, it is hard to back to a regularly shaped one.

This is a great concept, i wonder how it would hold up to daily use in a professional construction environment? I use my tools nearly every day, my tools get knocked about, dirty, wet, so i tend to go for the higher end brands. But now i know about this black and decker, something like this could save a lot of space

Actually, black and decker made the craftsman bolt on system. That's why they're so similar.

I have most of the attachments, and I agree. The system is also a lot smaller, this easier to tote around.

It's a lot of capability for a small tool bag. If they came out with a metal sheer / nibbler ... its all over.

@@affordabletechsolutions6917 craftsman had shears for bolt on. Amazon has them for $100.. way too expensive.

The Black & Decker Matrix and Craftsman Bolt On are compatible because both brands are owned by the same parent company, Stanley.

I’ve had the original Matrix kit for several years and cost $200 (back when the chuck head was silver and the battery was white - probably 8 years ago?). My kit came with several attachments and 2 2ah 20v batteries and that cheap charger. And yes, I have been vey impressed with it over the years and have pushed it to it’s limit - driving 3” deck screws into pt lumber with the impact driver head, using the trim saw to cut Trex decking, the oscillating tool for numerous trim cuts and so on. When the drill head chuck did not tighten very well anymore instead of buying a new drill head for $40 I bought the corded version of the entire drill (with the drill head) for $30 on Amazon! Amazon does still sell the kit right now for $159 with several attachments (only 1 battery) and they still have the corded drill for $30 on it’s own, and they do have the other attachments sold separately. However, my Lowe’s (or HD or anywhere near me) just doesn’t carry the Matrix system anymore, maybe just the cordless drill on occasion, and it seems B&D just doesn’t do much with it anymore. Everything still works and I still use it often, but the batteries are dying and because of the advantage of brushless tools I’ll be moving on to Ryobi or Dewalt where their systems are huge and easily found ( Ryobi One+ HP brushless gets stellar reviews but still a great value). And yes... Craftsman had a similar system which makes sense because B&D, Dewalt, Porter-Cable and Craftsman are all part of Stanley-Black and Decker (as is Bostich and many other brands).

I had mentioned Lowes as a vendor for the matrix drill and that is where I bought my second one only a while ago. Ironically, after i ordered it, i went back in to check tracking, and it now said "unavailable"... I think i got their last one. before discontinuing it.

@@affordabletechsolutions6917 A few weeks back I contacted B&D and asked if they still support this product, however when they got back to me (it was “support” from Dewalt in fact) I think they were confused and thought I was asking about a Dewalt product I needed help with! (The email asked me for details on the problem I was having). I just get the feeling B&D tools in general are on the “back burner” and I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually just use that line for small home appliances like the Dustbuster. It seems ever since they bought Craftsman that is now their “second tier” line behind Dewalt. You don’t even see much of Porter-Cable anymore. Overall as I said, the Matrix system has served me well and if someone wants it at least they can still get it for a great price on Amazon, but again with all the brushless tools (and better batteries) out there at great prices I personally would recommend to a new homeowner, etc. to look at all those brands

@@FunAtDisney Yes, I agree i think both B&D and Porter Cable are going to get shaken out in the identity crisis. People say the new Craftsman is rebranded Dewalt...I disagree on that, some of the new craftsman stuff is just red Porter Cable clone (just compare the LED work light, or the 4.5" grinder for examples of the attack of the clones) which is why i dont see Porter Cable lasting...unless they want a brand to throw at the smaller vendors who want something to compete with the big boxes. I also did a video on some other affordable tools to include a review on the new Ryobi HP stuff...of which I have become an instant fan of. Still, while the Matrix future is uncertain, there just isn't anything quite like it (apart from the jobmax) and I would still recommend it as a gift idea or as a DIY kit for someone limited on space. You may or may not find a replacement head in 2-3 years...but if you are using the tools that much to be needing replacement part, you may find yourself wanting to upgrade by then anyway. IMO, the cost vs capability you get outweighs the uncertainty of being future proof

@@affordabletechsolutions6917 I was just over at Lowe’s to pick up something and the B&D stuff was tucked into the back of an endcap, a couple drills, a power screwdriver, sander and jigsaw and one “kit” (drill, battery, charger, work apron, tape measure....).Sad. I would like to see B&D become the standard line at places like Target and Walmart, including the Matrix line, it is such an iconic brand it would get a second life if they really supported it as a great consumer brand. I know those places have some B&D stuff, but this would be an opportunity to have a full consumer line at reasonable cost. And yes, I do think Craftsman has a lot of P-C rebranded tools and that it will eventually totally replace the P-C line (what would Norm Abrams think? His Yankee Workshop was sponsored by P-C and Delta, another dying brand!). As for Dewalt, they have way too many SKUs and specific lines for Lowe’s and Home Depot, just causing confusion for the consumer and pros alike. (Sort of reminds me of how Apple was prior to Steve Jobs coming back as they had different SKUs depending on where you bought them, Sears for example. Jobs thankfully changed all that!)

The ergonomics is one of the defining distinctions of those 2 platforms...but one big difference that may impact someone's choice, is in the attachment heads available. The Matrix system has a circular saw head...but the Job Max has a sheet metal cutter/shear head. So, depending on the main use you see yourself doing, may impact your decision. The Matrix system is seems geared toward light duty woodworking market, whereas the JobMax seems to be more maintenance/mechanical in it's target.

Just got the 6 tool set from Amazon for my Birthday/Christmas. Hoping to find the Craftsman Bolt-On 2 speed hammer drill attachment, and not have to pay an arm and a leg for it. Looks like the Bolt-On stuff is discontinued.

true, I doubt it is still being produced, considering how long ago it was & that some legal stuff is still pending from the Craftsman brand aquisition...It would be good to see them revive and extend the lineup, but I am not sure how well an interchangeable head tool fits into the apparent war between manufacturers to sell more batteries...Then again, Ridgid has introduced the MegaMax interchangeable platform which might trigger a trend in that direction.

You know I understand what your saying . I have tried many tools in my like time as well and many of the main tool company's boast there products but B&D does not for some unknown reason but they do just as good a job as the other brands do. I do have the ORIGINAL B&D Multi Head system from back in the day and it still works just ok now because its showing some serious wear and tear but it still does work but the batterys have DIED so I never bought any new batterys for the system. Would you happen to know if the New B&D heads are the same as the original design and would they fit the new Drill or maybe the old drill fits the new heads. Because all that is wrong with mine are the batterys went bad. Stanley branded stuff is HORRIBLE at least may experience even to this day when I bought the water proof battery tender I had it just over a week and it BURNT UP so I have to return it to HD tomorrow and buy the B&D branded one like i already have connected to my MC and ATV for over 5 years now and NO problems I will NEVER buy ANYTHING that has the label STANLEY on it and also Stanley does NOT HONOR they WARRANTY on there products either I have a Level straight edge that is warped and they would do nothing about it and HD wold NOT take it back because they do NOT carry that model anymore so they sent me to STANLEY garbage Company NOTHING THEY MAKE STANDS UP TO NORMAL USE EVEN THE SQUIRRLE CAGE FAN TOOK A CRAP JUST AFTER 3 MONTHS OF USE

The materials used to make the tools have changed over the years, and nowadays i think the heads tend to fit a bit snugger... but yes i do think the new heads will work with older tools, they may not be quite as effortless to change as they used to be, but i believe they should be interchangeable.
