Trooper's narrative:
On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 1417 hours, I assisted Conway Police Department with a vehicle pursuit.
Conway initiated a pursuit with a black Dodge Charger and began traveling eastbound on Interstate 40. As the pursuit reached
Crystal Hill, Trooper Keri Permenter took primary position in the pursuit. After making a loop in the Crystal Hill area, the pursuit
got back onto Interstate 40 eastbound.
At this point, I became the second unit in the pursuit until Trooper Permenter's lights and siren stopped working. Per the ASP
pursuit policy, I took the primary position around the 151 mile marker of Interstate 40 eastbound. We continued east where
speeds reached approximately 120 mph. As we approached the Levey exit, the suspect vehicle began passing motorists on
the shoulder. We continued east when the suspect took the JFK exit. We then went west on W. Pershing, at which time I
conducted a successful PIT in front of the old North Little Rock Police Department.
After the PIT, the suspect, later identified as Corey Simmons, fled northbound on foot. After a short chase, I caught up to him,
at which time he resisted arrest. During the struggle, the suspect would not comply with lawful commands. At this point, I
delivered one closed fist strike to Simmons' right cheek. After the strike, he placed both hands behind his back and was taken
into custody without further incident.
MEMS was called to check Simmons for injuries. After being medically cleared, Simmons was transported back to Faulkner
County by Conway Police Officers.
