Holy crap this was actually a pretty funny mix of events. Half the people commenting surely didn't watch the video all the way until the end. Also, absolutely loved those track marshalls apologizing, funny and nice people. Smooth driving, btw!
When i was with my mate in his 306 tuned HDI, at croft. The car was coaling a little, and the marshall's black flagged him, one asked is this a diesel? My mate said yeah it is, marshall said ah, we thought it was a petrol with something about to fail. My mate said the smoke will go, as its just carbon build up, but i cannot guarantee that the car will not blow up. The marshall just laughed and sent us back out. Mad thing was my mate had a reg plate saying tractor.
My son was black flagged because the marshals thought his helmet was loose, but actually they were confused by his HANS. If a marshal is unsure, they will always call you in; this is by far the best way to keep us all safe. He later joked, Thanks for not giving us a two fingered HANS signal."

I'm very curious! This seems to be an all caterham event? Is it a public track day or were you there with a club? And do you pay for a number of laps or for a period of time? Love the Caterham, thanks in advance!
Something similar happened to a buddy of mine he drives a porsche 996 turbo and they have a few track days a month at a small local track and the car is pretty common around here. He gets black flagged so much because he has that car and a common color on it hes deciding to wrap it another color now haha. But its all in good spirit marshals are just doing their job to keep everyone safe and even when some of their mistakes can be annoying without them going to a track would be a deathwish
Yep, 5th at the start of the video as I approach the end of the pit straight, 4th for Paddock and 3rd for Druids. After the black flag I eased off as one of the reasons we were told for a black flag was a mechanical defect (dropping oil, petrol, something more serious!). As for speed, if you watch the video, 12 o'clock on the speedo is 80mph (confirmed with GPS) - didn't think I was that slow for opening laps to be honest!!
1Bobgp I'm just yanking your chain a bit mate. I don't think you were terribly slow. I do however think part of the reason you got black flagged was how submissive you are giving up positions. I'm not sure of the straight name but the first main straight four cars overtake you but the problem is you're pretty much at a crawl at that point and the speed difference between you and the rest of the field is far too great. Pull to the right by all means but don't slow down yourself unless you have to.
Too slow, that's why..sounds silly but going too slow is dangerous because all other drivers are going so quick and if they come hurtling round a corner at 80 and you're there doing 35 it could cause an unnecessary accident.
+Andrew Dawson Listen to the marshal's comments when I came into the pits - the black flag was a case of mistaken identity for which they apologised. First lap was my first lap of the day and I was getting the lines right before building up the speed. I was keeping an eye on my mirrors and slowing/pulling off line on the straights (and before the braking zones) to allow faster cars past safely. Disagree the relative speed difference was dangerous - Paddock Hill Bend at 70mph (look at the speedo), only time I touched 35mph was at Druids Bend - but then everyone has to slow for that corner! After the black flag I slowed down because the flag might have been put out as the marshals had spotted a mechanical defect with the car, but again I was fully conscious of other cars on the track.
Ah whatever, you got black flagged. I thought at first because you’re too slow for that group. If in the expert or whatever group, you’d be thought of as a hazard and just asked to go down a group.

Sheila Morrison it's his car dumbass that model he is driving only has like 80hp it's not the track version he is driving that car to the limit of it's abilities, don't talk shit when you know nothing about what your talking.
Even if this car is only 80hp this is not a diesel , he can go upper than 4500 rpm , the engine will not blow. He's slow asf. But he's not dangerous because he hold clear lines and others drivers can cleary see where he goes not like those morons you can get on some trackdays
Saying that you are on the bottom line of the learning curve is just a excuse! Was that trackday for normal cars or "race" day for caterhams? Looks like a more professional event. Seriously you cant jump into such a event and start to gain experience. Btw you will not gain any experience because you always have to let pass the other drivers...Dont start from 0 on a race track. Gain a bit of experience and come back. Thats so dangerous what you doing
It was a normal sessioned 'track day' organised by the Lotus 7/Caterham Cars Owners club - it was NOT a race or competitive timed test session and timing of any sort was specifically disallowed. Although 7s look similar on the outside there is a wide range variances including power units ranging from 80 bhp to 310 bhp, cars specifically prepared for track us only (e.g. use slick tyres, LSDs, sequential shifts, etc) and others, like mine, designed for the road that are driven to the circuit and then driven home on road legal tyres. Club drivers are aware of the different levels of performance and drive accordingly to the safety briefing given at the start of the day i.e. allowing faster drivers by on the straights using clear signals. I'm guessing you haven't driven a light-weight rear-wheel drive car on a race circuit?
Iam into Motorsports since iam 7-8 years old. I didnt want to "attack" you. Yeah i know there are different types of Caterhams around. My point was that its very dangerous for them and not really worth for you. Oke if you had a briefing before and if you are (yeah you do) using your signals then maybe it will not end dangeroud but whats the point for you? You will not gain anything there seriosuly. You cant really drive the racing line and you cant really push yourself because you have to look out for the others all the time...
Not dangerous - drivers briefing stated that overtaking was by invitation/consent only and only on the straights i.e. not in the braking zones and that drivers being overtaken should ease off to allow easy overtake. What was the point for me? Perhaps if you watch ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hV0WRn37nZI.html taken later on the same day you'll see I did improve/learn the racing lines and most importantly, enjoy the day.
Where exactly do you gain experience if not at a trackday. Looked fine to me, all these people that go to track days and pretend its a race are the people that cause trouble!
