black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving ,It marks the start of the Christmas shopping season . Many stores offer highly promoted sales at discounted prices, black Friday has been the busiest shopping day of the year but in resent years it’s popularity is fading away to the point of no relevance in most states, as online shopping took over in 2020 ,in this video I going VERY early in the morning as a Black Friday tradition inside the retail stores on Black Friday to see the foot traffic inside the mall ,department stores and electronics stores and it’s NOT looking good for the retailers

I can imagine owning an $80k truck. But I suppose I’m content driving my 22 year old truck to work in the morning. I can not imagine spending $80k for a car to take me somewhere I don’t want to be. Monday-Friday. 8+ hours per day. But I’d sure look cool during my commute, I guess.

In fact, the globalists are rebooting the whole financial system. It will very likely reach a catastrophic tipping point in the 2nd half of 2024. At least that’s what they are “telegraphing” in their inside jokes and subtle references. Trust Jesus before the Antichrist takes center stage and those that remain are forced into central bank digital currencies. Once cash is gone, it’s NEVER coming back. The set up is pretty much complete. The Antichrist will rule from Jerusalem in order to mock God. That’s why Jerusalem’s fate is so hotly contested.

This makes me sad. Shopping malls used to be a hangout for young people when I was coming up. You could spend an entire afternoon with your friends with 20 bucks. You could buy a gift for someone, a little something for yourself, and a bite to eat at the food court. A matinee ticket at the movies cost a little over four bucks. Now kids are stuck in their rooms at home, communicating with the friends they never get to see from behind a screen. It’s too dangerous and expensive to go out. I feel heartbroken for everyone.

For the first time in many years, my husband and I actually went to the local mall on Black Friday. We just never went before, because of the unbelievable crowds. But this year, we looked at the parking lot while passing by, and it was nearly empty! The stores were empty. Signs read “Entire store 40% off!” …. But nobody in the store except the employees. Yet, the news media announced that “customers turned out in record numbers!” Yeah… 😂

the media didn't lie when they said "customers turned out in record numbers" they just conveniently omitted the part that it was record low numbers. @Novaximus
@Novaximus 5 месяцев назад
20 years later and Amazon still leans on the postal service for last mile. They make billions per year while the postal service is broke using 40 year old vehicles. Internet home delivery simply would not be affordably possible if not for the cheap labor being used by the postal service for package delivery. I think Big Business such as Amazon are abusing the indented purpose of the postal service. They are making a lot of money. the consumer is getting almost free convenience at below store price. It sounds like a win/win until you understand that it's the worker who has to pay that piper. Which I'm sure nobody cares about if you're not amongst the working class. Perhaps that's why nobody is working these jobs? Perhaps the labor shortage drives costs up? Perhaps labor shortage contributes to worse customer service and supply chain issues... There's consequences to all of it. net shopping/cell phone entitled consumerism is a huge root of it imo

I work retail and this was the slowest Black Friday ever. A complete waste of time. Most of the business was through our website. A lot of ship-from-store orders and same-day pickups. Fewer customers means less employees, which means upset customers who decide to shop online instead. It’s a vicious cycle.

I doubt less customers mean less employees. Good thinking though Job duties do evolve over time to help business thrive. @@edgaryzen4925 Big picture, absolutely less jobs with less retail sales. Most of the workforce can be eliminated and/or outsourced. Amazon is implementing more and more AI to replace costly labor. When was the last time you got domestic customer service on the phone? Every time I call, I talk to someone in the Philippines or in India. Labor is a retail business' biggest expense, they will make labor cuts to save on their most variable cost. A shift to online commerce removes the need of countless jobs, including security and janitorial/housekeeping. Online sales can put more work on fewer people in a more remote, central warehouse. The only reason retail still exists is the boomer and gen-x holdouts that do not like online shopping. Millennial and gen Z choppers already prefer online shopping. They are the ones fueling Doordash, Instacart, UberEats etc; they are happily trading quality for convenience.

Retail would still have a role if people desire a certain quality of service (particularly if shoppers want to see the products first-hand), but the question is whether any companies can step-up in that regard. Few neither desire nor may afford to do so. The fact that those working have most of their money going to rent and other already existing expenses with heavy inflation doesn't help either.

Saving their hard earned money for living expenses: (shelter)mortgage/rent, groceries, (utilities)water, electricity, trash pickup, etc. I’m so happy I have never been materialistic and always a saver. Living frugally and being a minimalist, I retired at 60 free of debt in 2021 with my employer matched and unmatched retirement accounts, my nice size savings and my emergency fund which will see me through at least 2 years of my expenses. Not to mention collecting my well earned Social Security benefits I paid into for decades. The last 24 years busting my butt working in healthcare as a (RT)Respiratory Therapist and through the Covid/Delta pandemic 😷. To save money in today’s ridiculous inflationary economy our family of retirees consolidated. I moved from my previous residence(rented). My sister, her husband and their son opened their home 🏡 for me(my sister’s brilliant idea 💡). I’m renting a room and contributing money for household necessities: groceries. A win, win for all of us. We’re gratefully blessed, thriving and enjoying a well earned comfortable retirement. Examples, I moved $60K of my savings into a high interest CD; and successfully saved another $10K to move into an even higher interest CD. God is providing. So no fears or worries here. This is true wealth.

More people have realized what most of us have known for years: There's a growing awareness of marketing tactics these companies use like jacking up prices and trying to make people think they're getting deals. Additionally, many companies don't bother offering good deals when they know people will buy their products regardless. In the past, a lot of companies would offer discounts ranging from 50% to 80%, but these days, it's more like 25% - quite a drop. As I mentioned, they also prices generally are higher overall, and people don't want to spend what they don't have. Companies just don't care as much anymore to give customers actual deals, a lof them just want to screw customers and are more greedy than ever.

Places like Walmart encourage online shopping by offering online only prices. I still prefer going to the store because I want it now not when The UPS driver finally shows up. Funny thing just happened to me lately though, I had my eye on something from Walmart but it was online price only. The last time I tried ordering from Walmart online they made me wait half the day before giving me a pickup time and when they finally E-mailed me they only had one of the two items I ordered. They offered to send me the second one in a couple of days but I wasn't going to be around to receive it. That and my printer wasn't working so I couldn't printout the pickup info anyway. I wasn't sure how that was going to workout when I got there anyway. So I canceled the order. The funny thing that happened lately was I saw something online and thought there was no chance I was going to be able to get it for that price and after the last time ordering on line I was like why bother! Well I was walking around one of their stores the other day for a different reason and they had what I saw online for the same price. 😁SCORE!

I guess it depends on where you live, in some areas retail shopping (at least at big box stores) is a mad house no matter what the day. Target and Walmart near me is always packed with people especially on the holidays. I didn't go out on Black Friday but the Tuesday before (where many deals were already happening) and it was pretty hectic at Walmart. Best Buy department stores, and other specialty retailers, not so much. Most people shop online for Black Friday and most stores don't offer any real reason to go to the store anymore. Unless they change that, it will continue to be diminishing returns for retailers.

Maybe but having your packages left on the porch for people to steal when you're out is still an anxiety inducing inconvenience, and the ability to try things on/getting them instantly is still something the online experience can never replicate. There are things you can buy online that are pretty universal without a need to try on, or see in person, but when there's a product you're unsure of, want to see options in the flesh in front of you and have it immediately, there will always be a need for IRL shopping. Also the social aspect, people like going to shop and using it as an excuse to eat out with friends/family.

I've worked for the same big box retailer for 30 years. The shift to online shopping has also meant a shift in how in-store sales are done. Instead of a single crazy day for in person shopping the holiday sales are spread out over weeks. It used to be that a Black Friday ad was a closely held secret until just before Thanksgiving. Now it's made public well in advance. It's too early to know this year, but recent years I've seen business remain strong over the holiday cycle, but it seems quieter because it's spread out over a longer period. This is just a general observation, of course.

I feel like you went during day time on a Friday when most people are at work. Here in Australia our day hours on Black Friday was quiet but then picked up heavily after 5pm to 9pm (our stores close late on Fridays), then stayed busy for the next few days (Black Friday deals go from Friday to Monday here). Most people do their shopping after work and will do it later if stores are open later on Fridays. Then they're free on weekends. And a lot will prefer to shop a day or so later so they can shop when the initial hustle isn't as packed, which in my opinion is a better way to shop. If every big shopping day was like this in Australia it would be a dream for me tbh, I hate people getting in the way and long lines.

Corporations killed Black Friday. They managed to take something that was a fun shopping experience and turn it into a money making con game. People started kicking doors in to get that TV at a 60% discount but what they didn't know was that that TV wasn't the same one that was on the shelf the week before. In fact the one that was at a 60% discount is actually made specifically for Black Friday and has a completely different model number than the one that's normally on the shelf. I think once that started getting out and a bunch of these stores artificially inflating their prices before Black Friday so that they could lower their prices back down to their normal prices that's what ruined the magic of Black Friday.
