Hewins Wood, east of Edgcott, is a mysterious strip of mixed woodland, running off the road, lining a public bridleway. There is plenty of tall Blackthorn, but the trick is to view these butterflies lower down for photography. At Ditchling Common in Sussex, honeydew on Bracken fronds can be very attractive, but at Hewins Blackberry flowers in open sunny areas does a more consistent job. Peak flight also varies between Buckinghamshire and Sussex: the latter being a week earlier (for example, the fist 10 days of June is best in East Sussex, while 17 June saw quite fresh individuals in the former county).
