Black helicopters descend on Tokoroa

Out of the leaden skies of a Tokoroa autumn, two black helicopters appeared and landed at the airfield.
Fortunately, they were not filled with NZ police on a mission from the MPAA - there was just regular folk inside.
A Eurocopter (complete with walnut trim on the instrument panel) and a Squirel were temporary visitors so I thought I'd give subscribers a close-up view of what these multi-million dollar helicopters look like.
Thanks to the super-steady-shot and long zoom of the Sony camera, I was able to get some "in your face" shots of the helis arriving and departing.

alright! eurocopter helis, i work at american eurocopter in texas, well now we're airbus helicopters, we overhaul all the components, mgbs, tgbs, mrs, mrh!

Just seen one fly by I’m in Desoto, Tx and i was like must be a Higher Elite/VIP 🤔 i didn’t see any markings/Numbers

I work at Perth airport in Australia, and for the first time in a few months I saw several helicopters thunder in the other day. All I could think about was how primative they were. Mechanical linkages, swash plates, etc. Bah. Someone needs to start manufacturing full scale quads.

Nice visitors!!! Also, don't know if it's the same company but we also got Skyline Aviation here at our local airport. They have a Learjet 36A, an Aero L-39 Albatros and a Cessna 337. Could be the same company. :)

Thanks for sharing Bruce. Those are some nice helicopters. I have never seen one up close myself and it was nice to finally see which way the blades actually turn on a real heli. I'm still trying to figure out how the EA heli tail turns as the blades look straight and couldn't see how those worked.

Sony HDR PJ760 -- and yes, it is *very* impressive. The Super-steady shot uses a gimballed lens to get that level of stabilization.

Big sombre black fuel guzzling helicopters,the RAF say black is the most visible colour low level but gone are the colourful yellow trainers we once saw in our skies,having flown and loved yellow models for visability I cannot see why black is considered visible ?

I live south of Hilo, on the big island of Hawai'i, half way between the active volcano Kilauea and the Hilo airport. These are in the air overhead way too often. Tourist dollars are nice but at the cost of ones peace and quiet.........

No fuel. Not even a coffee-shop -- which is why my kettle runs hot on days like this when there are a handful of full-sized aircraft around. There's always a cuppa available at the workshop for whowever drops in.

I don't like choppers so much any more. After a two hour flight when I wanted to go the toilet 5 minutes after we left the helipad and then being crammed in with 18 other people sort of took the fun away.

Yep, we're 1200ft ASL -- which is why it's bloody cold in winter and hot in summer.

Unless you need fuel there is no point flying a helicopter into or out of an airfield. Back paddock or lawn is the way to go. Otherwise use a fixed wing!

That must be horrible seeing your club just disappear like that! Now you have to be out there by yourself and i can tell its not as fun and enjoyable! It really sucks seeing that! I wish there is a Something we can do! I hate seeing this hobby break apart the Way your club did! Its hard to watch!

Yep... went from nearly 40 members (with a high percentage of "active" fliers) down to (I'm now told) just 7 financial members and 2 regular fliers. That's what happen when you take the *fun* out of flying I guess.
