Your channel is pretty cool! I used to have a a really nice and tall black locust in my backyard but it died last year and I had to have it taken down. As you probably know, the roots keep shooting up some baby trees so just today I decided to take one and put it inside in a pot and turn it into a bonsai. I have no idea what I'm doing so I've been searching online for information and I found your channel. Keep up the good work! :)
Welcome to my channel Michael!!! You are off to a great start. The black locust will hrow well as a bonsai. Keep an eye out for insects though!!! Bugs love thess trees for some reason. 😎🍺🍺
I found a locust seed 12 years ago. Planted it and it turned out to be thornless. It is 12 years old now and it is getting a new pot in the spring. I found out that black locusts don't mind if you keep their pot in a bucket of water. That is how it grew from years 5 - 10 when i pruned its roots and cut it by 1/3.
I chiseled out a Honey Locust from a gravel lot last week. It was a miniature open air dainty archetype. About 8" down I hit a side root...I thought. Nope. A bigger trunk. I just dug up a branch with 1' and a half of rootless log on either side. I pruned it and wrapped in sphagnum. Yesterday I noticed the drainage was plugged in the bin it was in and the maple seeds and leaves had mingled with the sphagnum turning the tub into a swamp. I have a root!
Hey I really know what you mean about looking forward to the rain to save on watering! The black locusts outside look good, but I will take your advice and not get them here! Great vid.
I always liked black locust trees there was a road lined with them in Maryland I'd drive on the way to band rehearsal. Blooms smell nice and make good honey too.
@@jarheadbonsai I'm good with those to thanks to my father, but I am a bassist, play mandolin also, cello and upright bass 4, 5, 6, 12 string fretted or fretless.
I plant a clove of garlic in the pots with my bonsai, it keeps most pest away from my plants. Because I have pets I don't use sprays. are any of your black locust blooming yet?
I have not tried the granules...i should because i like the idea of not spraying the leaves. I removed one of his non-bonsai comments and hopefully he does not return. 😡😠😤
@@jarheadbonsai ya that shit has nothing to do with bonsai dam idiot !! Ya bro they have it at the flower & vegetables nursery stores sometimes at Homedepot but ya it's some good stuff👍
