The original creators of the Doom series John Romero and John Carmack have said that it takes a truly passionate team an incredible amount of dedication, and give-a-damn to make a game really amazing. I grew up in the 90's full of amazing games Half-life was part of my childhood, and to play Black mesa in its full experience is jaw dropping. Half-life is one of those games where the story is part of the experience, its not just about shooting the bad guys. Crowbar Collective hit it out of the park.
@@petarzivanovic5716 You kidding me? I'd honestly pay 60 USD for the remake. The fact that it was only 20 for me is so bizarre. (In a good way, of course)
@@justsomegamer6719 oh yeah, that happened. well I assure you if black mesa wasn't made by fans people would judge it for what it is more than just blindly praising it
I was 12-13 years old when i play HL1 in my brand new Compaq Presario with Windows 98 and was mind blowing. Now i'm 32 and i just can't die without know what's after episode 2.
I don't know why people are being so negative towards you? Why the hate people? I'm glad to hear you're still playing games Chris. Be healthy and good luck!
Played through this! BEST REMAKE of the BEST GAME ever made!... This is truly how you do remakes... Thankyou so much to the Crowbar Collective team who spent so much time and effort in making every detail as much a spectacle as it is. Not even a guy who writes comments on RU-vid or anything... just came here because i really needed to show my support and thanks. Cant say enough!
100% agreed. This is exactly how you remake a game. Keep all the nostalgia and add a shitload of interesting content and great graphics. I'll go as far as saying I like this game more than the original. Xen kinda sucked in the original, but the Crowbar guys apparently moonlight as level designers, because Xen was an absolute joy to play through.
@@greenbomb8254 the sound mixing is awful in certain combat arenas it just blares in your ears, and it feels out of place like when you are going up to the button and kill the tentacle monster there is this rock music that starts playing which feels weird because it was never in the original and sort of kills the mood when you're trying to sneak away from the tentacles, the music isn't bad but the way it's used is pretty bad, and it's a common criticism of the game
@@juancampos9468 If it’s a common criticism then why don’t i see anyone talking about it except you! plus what you just mentioned in blast pit is when the tenticle gets destroyed you dont have to sneak anymore along with the fact that you’re killing a monster with fucking fire!
@@greenbomb8254 my point isn't that the music is bad, it's fine music but it's just too loud and out of place compared to the original which purposely was more quiet and techno to match the world, and it worked well, the over emotional rock music just feels out of place and the only place I feel that the music is done well is in xen
"Xen is a triumph" First of all, the entire game is an absolute achievement in game design. Secondly, Xen IS a triumph. Xen was my least favourite part of the original game, but it's awesome in Black Mesa.
eeeeeeeeeeeh it still totally breaks the pacing of the game, but it is an improvement. The final boss fight is infinitely better and more spectacular however.
My guess is that majority of the "oh god it fits so perfectly" sound effets were added in post production, to fit the music. You can see it in 1:28 for example, where the number of pistol shorts you hear does not match the number of shots fired by the guards.
Honestly, I was never able to finish the original Half Life 1 when I was young, but after playing Black Mesa, I regret that. This game is absolutely amazing, and the story is amazing. I absolutely enjoyed the Xen stages, and the Music is absolutely EPIC. Thank you so much Crowbar Interactive.
Finished it when I was a teenager. If you can get pass the outdated graphics, I highly recommend it. 👌 After that, play the mod They Hunger: Trilogy for an awesome horror atmosphere
Lol, Blizzard? Its dead mate they just take out half the game and think its fine lmao YOU THINK THEY GAVE A FUCK IN THE FIRST PLACE? HAHAHAH If this would be made by Blizzard they would change textures and delete half the games levels :DDDD also removing workshop and most mods and generally playing your own maps
*The only choice I had to make was to buy a new computer to run this thing.* I wasn't going to NOT play it. Not after so long. Valve. It's time. *Hire them.* *Half. Life. 3.*
Don't hire them. They'll just be making hats for the rest of their lifes. With the money and fame they make with Black mesa they can make their own games and keep their creative freedom.
Volvo doto Are you kidding? With the amount of manpower, and the talent they’ve demonstrated, Crowbar Collective members would be a gallon of fucking cocaine for Valve’s future projects.
I am crying, not because of how beautiful this game is, and it's not how dedicated the Mod Team behind this was especially since they're not even done. No it's because they've announced a Definitive Edition is already in progress. Which shows that Crowbar Collective is just that dedicated to improving a masterpiece even further.
as some born in 2001 i grew up with *half-life* in a strange way. i first found out about *portal 2* from trailers for it on the T.V. and that lead to me playing *half-life* games about a year later. while other kids in school were busy playing games like *call* *of* *duty* and *grand* *theft* *auto* and were all surprised by the fact that i had never played any of them, i was busy playing the games that practically made it possible for those games to exist in the first place. while other kids had no idea what *half-life* was and didn't understand anything i was talking about and likely didn't care, i was playing the grandson of F.P.S. games. this was back in fifth grade and it stayed this way for the most part, i would be playing *portal* and *half-life* while other people would be busy playing the "cool" games, all of them unaware that every game they were playing likely used something that *half-life* practically invented. in highschool everyone would talk about *fortnite* towards the end of my last year, all completely unwilling to listen to what I had to say about the games i was playing, some even saying that they were not relevant anymore and that they were dead. ( which to be fair was sort of right ) some even saying that they think the game is bad, only to also say that they played *left* *4* *dead* and *counter* *strike* , completely unaware of the game responsible for those ones even having the chance to exist. if only we were all still in school and had not graduated already, i would love to see their reactions to the series return and the internets absolute implosion upon it happening, and would love to be able to say that all of us here weren't just waiting for nothing, but that we were waiting for the biggest event of the decade in video game history. thankfully, along with other games that appear to only exist on the internet, i was able to find the communities of people who not only know that these games exist, but have been playing them for as long as i have, often even longer. and now, now i get to know what it was like. now i get to know how everyone else felt when this series first started, to know what it was like when *half-life* wasn't just a videogame, but when it was videogames. thank you everyone and may we all find ourselves once again on a small tram at 8:47 A.M. mountain standard time may we all raise the bar
I had a similar experience, while everyone was playing COD or GTA I was busy playing all these games. And being the only one who played them in my circle had its fair share of disadvantages but once I got on the internet it was beautiful from then.
THE FREEEMAN 2048 almost Similar to my story of half life I first found out of portal from a lego game and books and tv so I got it then a friend who loves games valve made recommended me half life 2 and I was hooked and this I only finished the game recently but it is a masterpiece
As someone who has beaten the game already, looking back at this trailer makes me feel like I have just come back from an epic journey and I feel saddened that the journey is over. Only a handful of the very best games I have played in my life ever made me feel like this. Playing this game is a MUST. The way they have completely remade the Xen levels downright puts Valve to shame.
@@jamessinclair2898 Um, that's debatable. I guess I like it, but it brought those fucking "omg like,,, I'm laughing so hard i- 🥺🥺🥺 hello kitty says acab" tumblr girls who probably don't even know what the combine is to the HalfLife fandom, and we do NOT want that. Freeman's Mind 2!
The max we got it Half Life 2 Cinematic mod, but i really dont suggest you installing it... Its kinda ehhh, obscene with very uncool, unnecessary and sexual details :(. But i believe (unsure) that they're gonna work on it, based on their last trailer they just launch, its just an speculation
I was 11 when Half Life was released, it was awesome. My friends and I used to take our pc towers to each other's houses and play the multiplayer mode, we couldn't afford a copy each, so we figured out that once you loaded the game you could take out the CD and load it on another computer. I preordered HL2 months before it was released and got it 2 days before the official release date. I couldn't wait for the postman to deliver it so I went out looking for him everyday that week to ask if he had my parcel and sure enough one day he had it. I got a couple of hours gameplay in before school and then when I got home I stayed up all night playing it.
This is an amazing game. I have never played the first Half Life, but this game is awesome. The Xen chapter was absolutely beautiful, and is one of my favourite parts of the game. I'm currently replaying Half Life 2.
@@hotmanngrayman9059 this game has previously been in Early Access for years. Back then, Xen chapters were still in development, but highly anticipated. And only now the game is properly released.
If they port this to consoles which probably won't happen Black Mesa may have some competition with other developers They put remakes and remasters to shame
This should have win an Oscar for the best remake made in 2020 or should I say the best remake in the entire history to be honest Still if you watch at Graphics looks awesome as heck and gameplay too I'm so Glad that Valve aprove to let Crowbar Collective make a remake for half life 1
I lay my respect up high to the developers. You have done a seriously groundbreaking achievement in your lives. I nearly cried while playing not because of the jaw dropping game length and quality only but thinking of the huge effort made by you. You deserve standing ovation and please take rest and get reward. I am really happy that I live and play this masterpiece. People, this is when we say something is ‘worth’. Time of wait is totally payed off. I love you all from crowbar collective. Admire you. Thank you very much.
Gotta love this unique style of the trailer, it takes you through the main events of the game, in a chronological order, from Inbound, to Sector C, to the R Cascade, to the Army's takeover and til Xen.
God.. I just teared up and had goosebumps on my way to work. After everything thats been happening these times, Black Mesa arrives.. My childhood is back.. Does anyone know the song name? Preps to the devs for all their patience ❤️
Once this masterpiece has been released, the upcoming long-awaited project "Cyberpunk 2077" is being pushed to the background. Gonna definitely buy the game to prepare for Unforseen consequences...
I finally bought myself a full-fledged gaming pc and ended up beating Black Mesa earlier today. Words cannot describe how much I felt at home before reaching Xen. Xen... words cant describe just how powerless I felt on that planet, a farcry from the original HL. I loved this standalone game, and I'm so glad I bought it before I could truly experience just how great It really is.
I played every. Single. Half-Life. Game. All the way from 1 and all it's different roles, to 2 episode 2 and have always waited for a 3, like every original fan of the series. I always admired the story and the imagination of the creators.. This? This is something else... The graphics, the details, the feelings as you relive your childhood, and the epic holy fucking shit MUSIC! Everything at first seemed like a graphics modification to Half-Life and some work on extra details and small additions which added more sense to the original HL1, which makes you understand where and how HL2 started. Hence, everything seemed like a typical Half-Life game, action-wise and story-wise... UNTIL.... until you get to Xen... When I first got to Xen.. I literally just stood there... admiring the scene.. admiring the music.. admiring the outer space sounds.. admiring the colors.. admiring the creatures.. and admiring what I called "Eye of Mordore" (which you can see in the first trailer video at 1:44).. It's just sensational.. literally.. sensational... You don't want it to end.. you don't want the scene to end, you don't want the music to end, you'd just wanna stand there and zoom in on everything in the outer space... and just think.. Without any spoilers, a combination of epic action and epic music near the end will almost make you wanna cry. This is a game/remake that speaks directly to the hearts of the original Half-Life fans. Worth Every Single Freaking Penny.
как фаната халф лайф с 12ти лет и сейчас мне 28 я с видео в шоке это просто нечто ,что было и что сделали,спасибо огромное за старания это реально собрало слезы восхишения фанатов!!!спасибо!!!
This is running on a game engine made in 2004. These people crafted a game that looks absolutely stunning even by the console standards of the time and if you ask me still more than holds up today, on an engine that is nearly two decades old by now. It's just astounding to me how far this simple glow-up blossomed into such an absolute champion of fan remakes.
only people that grew up on half life can understand how much powerful it was. The level design the idea behind it , back in the day it was so unique for games . This game to this day beat every game in those aspects especially in the story line . Half life Is legacy !
Indeed before Half Life all FPS games basicly had design where levels were seperated by some score screen at the end of each level. Half Life was unique that while its levels for sure were seperated by loading pauses, you were never taken into seperate loading screen or score screen so it felt like one big level from beginning to the end. The amount of storytelling without giving any clear answers what was going on was unique too for FPS games at the time. So ye im glad it got modernized with Black Mesa so that perhaps younger generations might more easily give it a chance and enjoy it. But I doubt they will never be as amazed by Half-Life/Black Mesa as we who played the original in late 90s
I don't know how I'd get back to half life after playing Black Mesa. I think, at this point, it's safe to say that Black Mesa earned the title of a Half-Life game.
Please don’t criticize me for being nerdy but the jets used in the Airstrikes are actually AV-8B Harrier Jets my proof are there similarities with the AV-8B and the jet fly’s very slow when dropping the bombs without stalling, and not many fighters could do that, I may also be incorrect again please do not criticize me :)
