The least tragic ending is the one where he is an actor. As someone in the comments pointed out, he's just a metod actor that got too much into the character he played and it tricks the audience nicely, how we've been obsessing over an unreal narrative.

your right it doesn,t have the nostalgia or bitter sweet melancholia that the train one has but also the sense of resolution to him like i think that was meant to be an acid and collin induced dream (anti-psych med w.d too)about time travel but maybe upon waking truly from his double nightmare the glitch in his brain over what happened to her can finally started to heal and he realised she wouldv died anyway it wasnt his dads fault and he shouldn't despise him forever over it

thats what i like to think happened to stefan anyway like the dream of him going back in time and then getting the train and then he also dreamt of himself in the 3rd person dying in the psychs office (he had just come off anti-psych medication and took lsd and was mentally fragile and dissaciationg) but then actually awoke from the double nightmare (ive had them) and forgave his dad and made the game well and continued a succesful career with collin as a good friend and confidante to help him...in my timeline anyway :-)

@@lindenpeters2601 I think you are missing the point. His mum was going to be late either way. His guilt about him looking for his toy was misplaced. His mum would die no matter what. this one bugged me (obviously). It's superficial to Stefan's deeper character arc of cultivating a rewarding creative flow. As an artist, It frustrates me that Colin is the only one with liberty of deeper awareness, even though Stefan has all the tools to assemble his own perspective, we don't see this happen for him as colin disappears and he has to fall back on a family he does not love

Fantastic analysis and spot on as usual. What's really amazing is how many people (including even some professional reviewers) watched Bandersnatch and totally failed to recognize pretty much all of the things you point out. It seems a lot of people watched it and just thought it was "really cool" and felt confident they had figured out how to "win". But then I guess that's why we live in a world where a show like Black Mirror exists...

"Let's make a interactive choose your own adventure movie, and when you get a choice, let's make 1 option the right choice and the other, the wrong choice. And when the viewers get upset that they have to go back, we can say they were mad that they didn't get to play god, and that we're making a critique on interactive media and life. Let's also make it really boring, hammer the themes over the viewer's head every 5 minutes so we can seem smart, make it vague in its visuals so people can interpret it almost anyway they want, and never have an ending so viewers can play for hours and hours in an endless loop." - Bandersnatch writers

Many do not understand the movie! - The film criticizes the ideology behind interactivity. "Bandersnatch has received many bad reviews also in the net, many spectators criticize the fact that the film is indeed not really interactive. Although there is one or the other option for action: this cassette or that but really the course of action cannot be changed, many complained. The ideology behind interactivity is criticized. Today we should decide on a continuous basis vote and vote but that does not pretend that we can barely make a real decision. Changes do not take place anymore, because we are trapped in a permanent pseudo-activity and the next option as with Netflix itself where the story of Stefan finally ends the streaming portal appears as the big other in whose hands we have gone the Netflix user interface is itself a symbol for the multi-optional society and for our consumer access to film. In reality, however, we are not taking a real option. fundamental decisions are not possible only the usual consumer decisions that we know from our everyday life: Should I drink a Pepsi Cola or a Coca Cola?

You are wrong. They are wrong! Everyone of us has the same choice to make, everyday of our lives. And whether we are at work or school. Running errands or hanging out with friends and family. I would like to add that the ending where Stefan takes the "to good to be true" opportunity at Tuckersoft, which ultimately shows his game receiving an abysmal review is really the best, and most realistic, outcome. However it's perceived to us as being a disappointing outcome, especially for someone seeking some kind of closure to the abrupt death of his mother. But in reality, if...when that happens to any one of us, the best thing to do and the right thing to do is to just keep going. Just keep trying. That is ultimately our biggest choice in life. Is to continue giving our best despite our tragedies and failures.

The mind-bending thing is that whatever you do or try you can't help Stefan to find an escape out of his misery. You even make it worse for him. So in the end you are his ferryman crossing him over the Styx. That's what is so endlessly sad and also amazing about the BM movie: technology is enhancing your possibilities as much as it is restraining them. And that's a wise conclusion.

The illusion of choices is frustrating for the characters, but having to make those choices as an active participant feels worse. When the outcome can be "anything at all" from bad to worse, with no definitive logic. I guess that's life, but I feel truly disturb. The only ending I do like is the mom's ending because it suits Stefan's personal conflict the most. I guess I'm one for closure.

The lesson is to participate in the design of your world with compassion and humility and other people that you trust. To take responsibility for your power and limitations is to become a world designer, or a god.Though also don't unquestioningly trust any other world designers. It also feels like a commentary on the reductive inescapable pipeline to violence that is core to so many video games.

My favorite part of the episode is the fact that it's wry jab at Netflix is more like a stab. You think you have control over Stefan, obviously you don't. But the message that "you" give Stefan, that you control what you watch is also a lie. The algorithm controls what you watch. Eventually it learns everything about you and dictates your choices for you. It shows you what cereal you are going to be advertised, it controls which show you watch next, and it controls what RU-vid video you're going to click on next. It predicts what follows as you type in the comment section. The more you play the game the more the game plays you.

Am I the only one that thought bandersnatch was bad? Boring story, things happening that don't make sense snd choices that are forced upon you making it not interactive anyway. I was really excited by the concept, but in the end it felt to me like it didn't work.

Yeah, I agree. The endings happen quickly, unless you make him become obsessed with the game and go crazy. I am not entertained by choosing to kill people. I was hoping to see how he'd move on with life after he took the job and his game got bad reviews. No reconciliation with his dad? Guess they "didn't program it that far".

I was honestly thinking that at some point in the show the choices would be the opposite of what you really wanted.

Imagine if you believed what the show told you, that the spirit isn't you or even part of who you truly are, and that it's instead something on the outside controling you... that would be some quite bad influence on peoples minds. Since of course, it is not outside, it is within. I'm not discrediting or going against the show and its game in any way, I think they're really works of perfected Art.

I got the ending where I died with mum at first. The other endings were a tad anticlimactic for me

John Martin go deep into the hyenas being outcasts on the margins of the kingdom and Scar a manipulative leader who promises them a better life lol

Ruben Avalos it's a nice metaphor of how marginalized or destitute individuals can be lead astray by wicked people. And I love at the end when the hyenas realize Scar was going to throw them under the bus. Especially Ed's psycho laugh lol.

When I was 'watching' this movie and I came by the end. It felt like I failed. I feel like I got almost all of the endings, and none of them are good. I was disturbed by that and kind of upset. ☹️

Yeah, I think it's not for everyone. So many of the choices in this are non-choices, like choosing to go with Mom at the beginning. Seriously, I have a 5-year-old. I would have physically picked him up and taken him with me, promising to make him another rabbit soon, or buying him a new one. And we might have even made the train that DIDN'T crash. And it also doesn't let you accept the job a second time, or pour tea on the keyboard. I guess they "didn't program that path, yet." We, as the controller, are still not in control, as we are forced to make Stefan become obsessed with the game.

I understood what the show wanted to tell about choices and life... but still, I found characters and endings dull. It was type of bad episode like hated in nations, which had good premise but gets so predicted and bland. The episode would be even worse if you didnt even had option to choose.

On one hand, Its cool to look at this as a metaphor and shit, but one the other hand, I literally went crazy with conspiracies about P.A.C. and how they control all the outcomes of Black Mirror behind the scenes. The boyfriend in White Bear was being controlled by P.A.C. but I know the creators would never do that, as they're more of a "each episode is a metaphor for life" rather than an overarching plot.

I was able to play it properly using the Netflix app on my PS3 just today. I'd previously tried other devices and had the same problem as you, getting only the trailer to play. I tried Bandersnatch on my smart TV's Netflix app; I failed to get working on my laptop using the Netflix app but I think I got it working on the laptop using Netflix in-browser... I also tried on a smart phone with screen mirroring to the TV but found it would glitch during the choices.
