The Black Mission was introduced to California by Spanish missionaries and is the dominant fig grown in California for fresh market sales. It is favored for its productivity and good fruit size.

i just picked up one in a container last year and it's fruiting this year but the first two brebas darkened and dried up, inside it was green and completely inedible. I think I didn't water it enough, gave it a thorough drink and the newest figs forming are very plump and healthy looking.

Correct. Black Mission NL is from a "New Life" Church here in San Diego. Apparently, it tastes noticeably better than your typical Black Mission.

FYI - I didn't really want to mention the full name out of fear of the tree being cut back without permission.

Sorry om .. Every time I see your video, I am very amazed by the shape of the direction of fruit plants in addition to being large and also very productive, if I may know by the size of a garden that is so broad, how many types of fruit trees are you in your garden? Greeting fig plant lovers🙏

Our farm is 47 acres but more than half of that is rented out to a friend for alfalfa. We have almost 1.5 acres of fig trees, approximately 350 varieties. We also grow chestnuts and a new berry orchard and for personal use we also grow white sapote, feijoa, bananas, dragonfruit, jujube, mulberry, citrus, stonefruit, bananas, etc. We are fruitaholics. :)

It looks like to me thatbis brown turkey variéty because these figs are Big. Black mission is smaller than that.
@Figaholics

This is Black Mission. We've grown Brown Turkey previously (but no longer grow it). Its skin is lighter color (thus the word brown in its name) and has a lighter colored pulp. Brown Turkey fruits are also larger than these, on average.

No, this variety is very different and does not require pollination to produce fruit.

Do you recommend fig plants tobe grown in large pot? With pruning can the plant survive for a longer period of time & yield fruit? With pruning isit necessary to root prune as well or they won't grown so big enough to destroy the pot?
@Figaholics
@Figaholics 5 лет назад
I've done it sometimes temporarily for a year or two but many people in colder climates do that as their only means of growing figs and they do fine. Yes, pruning of roots is done also. It's best to check some other RU-vid channel for that since I don't have any direct experience with it.

Hello. I have a question: Does this product bear high temperatures, up to 48 c?

Yes absolutely. We get 48 and even 50c and our fig trees handle it very well.

Hello Harvey what fig variety do you sell most to the market
@Figaholics
@Figaholics 3 года назад
This is hard to say, we pick from at least 300 varieties, small quantities each time. But we do have two trees of Panache and one of Bordissot Blanca Rimada (a synonym), so maybe those.

How are figs polinized?
@jenniferphillips4707
@jenniferphillips4707 7 месяцев назад
Common figs do not need pollination.
@drea4195
@drea4195 6 месяцев назад
Although they don't need to be pollinated, all figs, even common figs, benefit in flavor and fruit quality when they are: it's the fig wasp that will do it, and it lives in mediterranean climates such as California.
