I think there is an interesting interpretation of the journey and ending based on the bardo of the dead. Basically Wukong died but entered a long standing meditation in the bardo; he could not move on, but he was not able to return to life either. His mind consciousness had to go through a journey to re-fight many of these battles so that he could attain closure and move. The wise monkey is an enlightened being, like a Buddha or a Bodhisattva, who guides his mind on this bardo journey. By the end, he was able to achieve closure and reincarnated.
The issue with that interpretation is that Wukong IS a buddha by the end of Journey to the West, he is the Victorious Fighting Buddha, however the whole point of being a buddha is that you have ESCAPED the cycle of reincarnation/Samara, so if he dies (somehow) he's not being reincarnated, he's simply dying for good.
@@ahkilleuskosmos6836 didn't the game state that he rejected the reward of Buddhahood? in any case, it's a game, so we can have multiple interpretations :)
It starts off seeming promising with the conflict with the heavenly realm, but eventually, nothing significant happens, not even a visit to the heavenly realm by ending. It just ends with Wukong rebooting the cycle. The whole storyline ultimately feels like it expresses nothing..
Underrated according to the westerners because they are blind and had not seen the journey to the west 1986 nor read the novel. Not underrated to the chinese and asian people.
@udinrambutan-do8oz I mean HE IS the literal inspiration for goku and honestly most fictional stories: *Cloning, Monkey theme, Power pole, transformation, Flying Cloud, being a god, immortal Pretty much everything bout his guy in some form was used for even anime *cough* Goku
Let me interprete a bit, in the original novel, the tales ended when the Journey succeed, thats all. This ending refers a fiction and possible aftermath, in anyway, like the old monkey said, mind is the one sense that cannot be remained because, eyes, ears, nose, tounge, body is given from, created from, and grown from outside factors, birth from mother, scarred by wound, etc. But mind is the inside thing, the only thing decides nature of one individual, created from learning, awaring, etc, which form one's purpose and fate. Thats why mind cannot be remained for you cant preserve what is not in physical, as one buddhist scripture states: cast all your fleshes and mortal desires, to learn and meditate to nirvana. The ending ingame with another stone monkey only refers to a new one similar to the begining of wukong, he cannot be the original wukong in any aspect but inherits the body and potentials to become another like wukong, but with different mind. Personally, i think thats a perfect ending, for it represent the true nature of life cycle in term of Journey to the west's world and chinese old culture
@@lordedasinfinitasterras Then again, even immortality has many interpretation. And always having a new sun wukong in every cycle and age is definitely one of them. It's something beyond just a simple rebirth cause the new wukong is still sun wukong
@@lordedasinfinitasterras immortality but with a conditiom that you must noy be killed, he just unaged not unkillable and we are know what happened ingame
I like it, the original story ends when wukong overcomes his impulsivness and achieves enlightenment, but what happened countless times after that wasn't clearly stated especially the headband thing. So something went wrong during the deal and that is the twist for this game I like it. Hope they make more games of wukong
First he taunts you to get up after beat down. Then he steal your gourd (then give it back to trigger you). Finally he catch your pole in the middle of your pole vaulting and swing you along with it. Lets face it. He's a lot better than you at doing your business.
In the NG+ ending, Wukong(Destinied One,1/6 of Wukong) didn't wear the golden headband, and took all Wukong's memory(with a cutscene). It means Wukong got relive. We can believe in NG++, there will be another final ending.
@@garrettjackson1451 ye, you open up the secret ending by getting the normal ending first. Then you go can go back to chapter 3 and that part the opens up the secret ending will be available. Then you can go and do the final boss fight again for said ending before going to NG+
@@Grizz218 Oh yeah. It was legendary. All the kids in Asia born in the 90s and after have watched it. It can be considered a cultural piece in Asia's media history.
This is just the beginning of mythology. Wukong still has 81 calamities to create. Perhaps you can try to learn about the famous Chinese mythological novel 【西游记】
There is a rumour that if you beat the game with all the secrets and unlockables, and you haven't taken a single point of damage in the entire adventure, the Ending features the Tang Monk singing "Only You". 😉👍
i think you need to play the game again on new game + to achieve it. You can only achieve buddhahood until you are worthy enough. If not you just get reborn. So in this ending the monkey we play reborns in the stone and then you get accepted to buddhahood cuz are worthy then
16:57 RuYi Jingu Bang *如意金箍棒* meaning "The Compliant Golden Hooped Staff" for those want to know what that writing is
@@whizp261 It's basically the opening chapter of Journey to the West, on how Wukong gained his various powers. Sort of like genealogy of Wukong. There are epic fights, hilarious moments and mischievous missions and all in all super fun.
@@t-bonenguyen9328He's not Wukong, he's the destined one. Besides, Bajie wouldn't call Sun Wukong "son", he'd call him "monkey brother". When Bajie says "son", he means he's an older generation.
@@t-bonenguyen9328Sun is correct, his full name is Sun Wukong not Son Wukong. Son Goku is Sun Wukong's Japanese pronunciation. Btw, you can search any one of it and copy & paste the original characters into Google translate, etc. It would tells you it detected Chinese and if you choose to translate to Chinese it reads as Sun Wukong, if you choose Japanese it reads as Son Goku.
love how they hinted in the last scene that he is still alive but still sealed, though on the original tale a monk unsealed him, I hope game science's next game is gonna make us play the real wukong after his seal is broken

@@take_another_trip farpoint but like couldn't he just wait like a few more weeks to post it or something people don't even know about the story let alone the ending
This game is going to be another game like Skyrim for me i think I'm going to keep playing even after I've got the platinum, its just that good I've made it through all the chapter's and beat the final boss I'm currently on my second play through and I'm still learning new things.
I don't think I've ever seen such a dynamic fight where the boss actually disrespect, taunts, humiliated and counter the players move sets like this. Well done to the devs
This ending is fake. This is a punishment for players who complete the game quickly. In the end, the player beats himself and becomes the next boss with the curse.
Aren't there 3 more Great Stone Monkeys that are similar to Wukong according to the legend (The Four Great Stone Monkeys - whereas Wukong was the weakest among the Four) ? It would be great if the game can include some stories about the other 3 Great Stone Monkeys. I remember one of them did appear in The Journey To The West (he disguised as Wukong and fought evenly with him and no one could identify the real Wukong - only Buddha could)
21:44 "Gimme some of that shit" I have never seen a game where the boss literally hits a lick on your items and proceeds to use them right in front on you.
Phase 3 Remind me MegaMan Zero3 last boss fight--Omiga+Real-Zero. Phase 4 Dejavu resurrection of Dracula in Castlevania Series. I am an Chinese,I don’t have the configuration to play this game, but I’ve been paying attention. This is Absolutely Cinema for me.
Homegrown game by developer eho wants to respect the Chinese mythology and culture. I hope we can see more developers coming from India, Middle East, etc. Happy to see studios outside US, Europe, and Japan had great success
Your stats seem very high, I've been fighting him since last night and he is tough, I can't do as much damage as you and I take much more damage than you from him.
The ending explain that the wukong we fight is actaully wukong But!! He don't have soul in that body anymore still his body and memory keep him fight and when we defeat him those essence merge inside destine one which complete the one that lost which is mind or soul now we are become the new wukong with the memory, power and experience from old wukong also we are free from the crown
Just a reminder: this is not the perfect ending, that loop on wukong's head is a trap for him, so that somebody can still control him. The best ending has an animation at the end, and that old monkey will not put the loop on his head. (Don't blame, I've already played 70 hours)
