Black Panther is a king and in his spare time, he likes to grow a full-on beard in like 2 days. After his father died he ran away into the unknown and hung out with a meerkat and a warthog, while running away from the burden of the throne where he ate bugs and danced around. But then the murderer of his father takes the throne and plans to invade K'un-Lun. Black Panther and Iron Fist must team up to fight an army of chicken riding warriors called Jadooon boon.

I hadn't given too much thought as to why they showed Black Panther first coming through the portals. Probably because I'm too much in my feelings everytime I watch that scene. You pointing out that he is a symbol of unity, plus the fact that he is a king, makes perfect sense. When everyone showed up to backup Cap is when I finally got teary eyed.

I know you're probably going to get quite a few comments mentioning Chadwick's death, and I'm sorry if that doesn't help your mental state. What I do want you to know is that you've done this character justice in breaking it down, and it stands as a nice analysis for a character so well played. I know I've spoken on this video before, but I needed to say it again. Thank you for making this, it's helping me cope right now and it's just an amazing video overall.

I love the idea of forgivness and remembering being bound. For a long time, I choose healing in my life and had a counterproductive approch to it, believing showing the other cheek is only a recipe for another bruise. This could be the key to celebrating forgivness. It's a share work and legacy. And of course it's why Tchalla is my favorite. (Because i'm also a feline; a mountain lion) Being compassionate, wise and learning to see through the pain.

Looking back, I realized Black Panther is a movie by all means that should have never existed and should have been way off considering the shitty situations Hollywood and many parts of nerd culture are in. Think about it. A Marvel superhero in an industry not just viewed as made exclusively for white men, but also made during a period where numerous gatekeeping community are still trying to keep their supposed ownership of nerd culture in a stasis to the point where defaming, harassing, or bullying numerous people viewed as outsiders is a regular tactic. Ie the calls of "forced diversity!" and "stop shoving politics down your throat!". And the way many companies actually kowtow to and please the demands of these awful movements is not only disgusting but it shows a clear example of cowardice. BUT, here it is. A movie with an all black cast, an all black creative team, and actually goes deep into exploring the concepts of nationalism, radicalization due to systematic oppression, foreign powers dealing in other countries resulting in havoc, and a vision of Africa had it not been plundered for centuries. But ultimately, a message that if we recognize these problems and failures instead of brushing it aside and putting simple band-aids on these gaping wounds, we can turn our problems into ways to aid others. It was so nice seeing a film like Black Panther. Especially considering how this movie came out just three months after we got a Star Wars movie that did more with its franchise than just nostalgia-bait, fan-service, and went deep into its own mythos by examining the very foundation it was based on. I will admit, 2019 was overall not a great a year for the blockbuster as 2017 or 2018 were (in my opinion), but if films like this come out way more and start to become a common thing, I'll be there way more for them.

I'm interested in what you mean by 'stand alone.' Do you mean it stands alone from the rest of the universe (which it does right up to the final scene) or that it's not a team-up film? Or you do you mean a superhero film without any sequels (yet)?. If its the first one, I absolutely agree, if it's the second one, I disagree as The Dark Knight, The Winter Soldier, Spider-Man 2 and Logan all exist, and if its the third one, I'd still disagree because of Into the Spider-Verse. Still, whichever option, that's your opinion and I'll respect that. I still adore this film and is in my top 5 MCU movies. (Just because, here's my personal top 5) 5. Black Panther 4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3. Captain America: Civil War 2. Avengers: Infinity War 1. Avengers: Endgame

Chadwick Boseman made such an impact in Civil War. I really enjoyed his film, but feel i wanted more of his character and not get sidelined too much by his bodyguards, sister and Killmonger. I know that him accepting the role of king will be a continuing theme in his journey in the MCU, i just hope we get to see the "Winter Soldier" of Black Panther. I truly looking forward to seeing where his character goes. One of my favorite scenes was him confronting his ancestors in the spirit world. I wish we got a scene like that for Thor with Odin.

I like how you point out how the political question gets quietly dropped halfway through Civil War II, I'd be interested in your thoughts on this? I feel like this is done almost by sleight as the Bucky situation goes from personal and political to suddenly mostly personal, and the politics gets dropped. Do you think this is a simple storytelling failure or a deeper question of MVU films not being able to really push political questions very far due to their need to stay ideologically flat? Like, they raise the political themes to attract a broad audience but then subtly drop them to avoid answering the questions they raise? (Suppose I answered my own question there...)
@ktownshutdown21
@ktownshutdown21 4 года назад
A lot of of politics is driven by a bunch of people's personal feelings, to be honest. It wasn't sound strategy that led America into the Iraq War, for example, it was more about wanting to get revenge for 9/11. Even in Civil War itself, both Tony and Steve's decisions are informed largely through the emotional gamut they ran through in their previous movies; things fell apart when Tony tried to do everything himself, so he wants that oversight to reel things in for him, meanwhile Steve was betrayed by the system he put so much trust in, so he doesn't want to accidentally work for Hydra again and wants to stay independent. Bucky is like the personification of their ideological battle: Steve sees him as proof that he's right, that he was a victim used by outside forces to do horrible things, but Tony doesn't care, he's still a criminal and needs to be held accountable no matter what.
