very interesting site... Nice idea on the pd strap.. I am using the NEW Blackrapid strap with a Canon 200-800 zoom. I put a QD plate on the foot of the lens with Arca Swiss cuts. I ten put a QD Swivel on the Blackraid strap. Closed the connector, flipped over the black safety piece on the holder and now have a Blackrapid with a QD. one connector locks on and one push on the QD takes it off......Nice site!
Three years late to your post but it’s a goody. I have been using the Spyder for years. I also use the same PD clips but on custom straps. Just because the straps look cute not for functionality. I have a few extra clips and might try this. Great idea! I don’t mind the Spyder weight (mine is a double so equal(ish) weight but lately, the metal clip inside has been not clicking back into place and either I don’t notice until I about have a panic attack when I do or I’m fumbling around more than I used to and things aren’t as smooth, which makes me nervous when moments are happening fast at a wedding. If I’m shooting with a single camera or out and about as a normal human, I love those PD clips.
Okay Booray, this may shake your world. Get the Peak Design Capture and mount it on your bag strap. Now you have a very light version of the Spider Holster. You have the Peak Design plates already.
I don't think that would work well with a shoulder bag, more a backpack strap... something firm. I like to have the camera in the nag when I am carrying it. It's quick to get out. :)
@@BoorayPerry I'm not a pro, but PD Capture on a backpack strap is pretty great (70d + medium sized lenses). Insanely stable, pretty much unnoticeable even when doing dumb shit like mountain biking
Nice presentation! Shows again how individuals have different journeys in a quest to find what’s best for THEM…. not simply what is “best.” First of all, I personally lent up switching the Blackrapid connection from carabiner to a QR swivel connection. Easy to press a button… bingo… camera released. Had to get a seamstress to help re-sew the strap, but recently Blackrapid came out with a strap that has the QR swivel built in (on?). 2. Now… you maybe not a tripod user. Even your best solution means you have to disconnect something to employ ARCA-type adaptors for a tripod. HOWEVER 😉… Kirk and RRS include QR holes for swivels on all their lens feet and camera plates, all which are ARCA. 3. I’m certain you already know Peak has a camera plate and belt system that is secure, small and fast access. Can be adapted to backpack strap as well. 4. Lastly, being a cyclist, I’m interested in the best way to hold my kit firmly, yet have quick access. Thanks Booray Perry!

Clever! I love Peak Design gear, but I never thought about that system. My problem is that I don’t want to remove my tripod plate. But this attachment method is food for thought , when I need it. I was ahead of you one one thing, using my strap on the camera bag, and switching it to my camera when I don’t need the bag. 😅
What a great video. Out of the hundreds of camera videos I have watched this is by far the best. I love hearing from a REAL photographer in the REAL world. Plus your innovation. So I personally use the new Rapid Fire cross body and have for about 5 years and absolutely love it besides the way it attaches and detaches and I have considered the peak design for its easy on and off connectors. I have been looking at the Cuff and also was going to purchase a small bag like your travel bag and love your ideas and what you came up with. I really enjoyed watching this video! Thank you
if you have a capture clip, you can attach anchor links to it and attach it to your strap. it should be sturdier since it's two links instead of one, and you only need to remove the camera from the capture clip instead of two anchors.
I put a Gariz half case on the x100v, which screws into the camera tripod mount, then gives you a tripod screw far enough to the side that the battery door opens easily with the PD square arcus plate attached. Very convenient, plus allows me to clip the x100v onto the PD Capture Clip attached to my belt. Also, now have a an Artisan & Artist Multifunctional Parachute Hand Strap (~$50 on B&H) , which is a fantastic size for the x100v, plus very secure.
Hi Perry your idea with the peak design is the best idea. Yes you do it that way but you don't recommend it to other to avoid a law suit smart . I cant stand the straps getting in the way of my camera flip out screen also . I want freedom , your way of placing a anchors on the peak design strap connect the other end to it then the last end goes to the camera bottom tripod mount , this is what i do also. Then later i came up with my own added idea which i do with my Nikon p1000 camera i purchased a peak design capture camera clip i placed it on my belt right were the camera swings at my hip now when im not using it the camera is fasten to my hip and will not move what's so ever so i don't by accident have the camera swing and chip the camera lens or scratch the body that's my idea that i have added. Have been using PD straps for ages and love them. 2 suggestions. The leash which is a great strap for my Em10 so good for the x100. Also the cuff which is a simple wrist strap. Also tiny. I carry both and they will fit in the one camera spot usually on the camera or underneath it.
On the Spider, thanks for pointing out the limp, I have knee and hip issues on my right side, and I wouldn't have thought about it causing problems, because the weight on that side would probably be a bit crazy for me to deal with.
I feel like there might be some benefit to glean strap mounting from the rifle sling world. There are purpose built hardware for single point system (rifles are much heavier than cameras), the problem is these hardware are often on the bulkier side compared to all the smaller camera retainer hardware. I know a few people have adapted magpul QD to their camera set up, but rifle slings seem a bit overkill for mirrorless sized cameras.
Shoulders are my problem also, I feel like I have been holding my shoulder half a foot higher after a long day of shooting. The Spider holster with 2 climber's chalk-bags on the opposite side of the camera is my rig. Great for an extra lens, cell phone, filters, my DJI Pocket too. Gives me some balance and I have a place for all my batterys plus my subject's cell phones and other crap, I can put a lot of weight all on my hips.
The chalk bag hags lower than the formed lenes cases. This allows the weight of your stuff act more like a pocket, also have a hard plastic ring sown into the top to simply reach in and fumble for what you need and a drawstring to secure lose items. One more thing I have made the loops longer to go over the belt better.
I've seen some people connect the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip to the peak design strap so that the top is hands free and you can quickly remove the camera from the strap. It also prevents the strap from hanging loose. ts a VERY pricey solution by taking on an additional $75, but I thought id mention it. I decided to go with the capture camera clip with the the pro pad to hang my camera from my belt. Using a strap similar to the Black Rapid (though much cheaper and slightly bulkier) was driving me crazy with how the camera was dangling. Especially with heavier lenses.

I used spider holster for a few years (weddings) and really enjoyed it on Fujifilm cameras. I had two clips (without the belt) that I would attach to my leather pants belt and I simply added the "ball" to the bottom of my camera in the tripod mount. I had one holster clip on each side and would alternate between two cameras with prime lenses. This system worked quite well as along as it wasn't too heavy. I found that the spider holster system was quite secure and very easy to put the camera in or out. Thanks again for your insight !
My issue with a lot of those support systems is that they tend to wear by rubbing on the camera and sure, obviously dropping the camera would be a lot more detrimental, but the metal clasps and all that stuff rubbing on the camera don’t exactly thrill me either so I pretty much just carry everything or mounted on a mono pod with feet to hold it up.
While I have a lovely case for my Fuji X100f and a small bag that I can carry it and spare batteries and cards in, when I am walking about I use a simple wrist strap on my left hand that lets me use the camera freely in any position and also drop it if I need to use my left hand. And if I am say hiking with poles, the camera fits easily in a jacket or vest pocket. No strap needed.
Using a PD strap with a Tamron 150-600 f5-6.3 G2 and a Canon 5D mk II, it's great for having the lens and camera on my back while riding a bike. In a pinch I don't even need to get all the way off the bike to start shooting. I'm using both ends attached to the bottom tripod adapter and considering tying the ends of the straps together wither with string or something that can be quickly be undone to remove the single point of failure
Hi Booray. I have the peak design system and quite often just use the wrist strap attached to one side of the camera. I’m using a Sony A7iii with the battery grip and I have no concern about it breaking so I think you are safe hanging the Fuji off one clip. Thanks for the videos and podcast. Enjoy them both.
I have the spider holster too from when I shot with a 5D mk ii. Now I shoot with an X-T30 I've just binned the plate and screw the nubbin straight into the bottom of the camera.
Spider Pro is overkill for the XT4...I like the Spider Light...much smaller plate and handy with hip carrying...depending on the day, will use either that or the Peak Design Leash with the XT4. Though the slide mechanism on the Leash isn't as nice as the one on the bigger straps, so I might try the Slide Light. For the X100V, I like the Gordy leather Sling Strap or the Gordy leather Wrist Strap.
Hey Booray, Just to let you know that peak design has a similar, but less wide strap. I haven’t read all of the comments and maybe it has already been said. I have the large one and use it on my beloved Nikon D810 ( have I mentioned my D810 love - still after all these years, and the other one (the smaller one) is on my Lumix Lx 100 and it can immediately be transferred to my Nikon A (with Nikon hood and a filter- impossible to find now?) Also I use Ona’s leather straps (love them on my DF) and RukPac slider and I love those one’s too. Having said that the Peak Design has a great line and use the wrist strap on my Sony a6300. Fortunately I am able to use them just as they come, however, nothing that I shoot photos of moves. So you are to be congratulated for finding a way to make your strap work, however, on a small camera I would suggest the thinner Peak Design as it is perfection on my lx100 - love it. Cheers
Hey Booray, I enjoyed the video, however I'm not clear as to how the Peak Design strap solved the problem you had with the Black Rapid in terms of the pain you developed in your neck/shoulder area over time. Did switching to the XT-4 solve that since it was lighter? Also, I purchased the Peak Design wrist strap for my x100v. It works fairly well, however the strap can get pretty tight on your wrist and relieving the tension is not super easy. I'm going to review their site again to see what other options they have. I didn't see the connector for the bottom of the camera previously. Thanks for what you're doing. It's quite helpful.
Peak makes a smaller strap called the slide lite and another even smaller on called the leash I think, I love the leash for the x100. I actually use it on the xt4 with the pancake lens as well. It's great and small. I have that and the slide lite, which are both excellent. I would like to try the full size because I have been trucking around a 100-400 for wildlife. It's been brutal.
Hmmm now you lose the movement of the camera on the strap again though that you had on the blackrapid. Now the whole strap moves again while otherwise the strap stayed in place. No possible way to attach them to the blackrapid and keep that movement? I don’t own one but was looking into one. Don’t really want to lose both advantages either. Great video
Yes. You lose that free movement. However, I don't really notice it because the Peak Design strapped is so slick. It slides effortlessly. Another drawback is that you lose the padding on the shoulder that you get with the black rapid.
Thanks for your video. I was on the fence on whether to get the BR or PD to replace my 10 year old BR strap (as the metal parts are almost worn out). Your tip on connecting the ends of the PD strap together cinched the deal for me. A couple of notes: The newer camera attachment part on the BR straps can be attached/removed by hand w/o tools (attaches as easy as a wing nut, but the rubber washer gives enough tension so it doesn't fall out). Also the upgraded clip on BR can have the plastic part removed and if you don't screw the safety on the carabiner/clip, it acts almost like your older version does. As I switch between an L-bracket and the PD Capture plate often, I now have my new PD strap connected the way you do at the end, one anchor on my PD tripod plate, and another on the old BR camera mount, so I can attached it to my L-bracket easily (www.barkerphotographic.ie/image/cache/catalog/1474171480000_IMG_680452-800x800.jpg) I can't wait to get out and use my new strap! Excellent lateral thinking Booray to come up with a solution using the Peak strap. I want one now, probably the smaller , for my X100V. Speaking for self maybe an idea to have a very thin small wrist strap permanently attached to secure against dropping when using the camera detached from the Peak....
All you did was create an unpadded BR strap with a Peak strap. Why not fashion a cross body sling to support the weight of the Spider which would eliminate the weight problem and maintain it's superior functionality?
There are cheaper 20-30$ backpack metal clips to attach to belt, bag, backpack and attach the camera through an arca swiss plate compatible with many tripods. Your PD strap mod still dangles the camera and the connector will wear off...
I think it really depends on your age. There's no doubt it's going to hold everything well it's just a question of whether or not you want all that weight on your shoulders. 🙂
The problem with the X100V is that the tripod screw mount or plate will block access to the battery door. You will need to unscrew every time you want to change batteries

Peak design is great, make sure to inspect the anchor regularly, mine break in couple months from rubbing against the mount. Just with a xt3 and kit lens, the strap just fall off while holding the camera. I am still using the system but woulnt trust it for heavy use. I am only taking photos of my kid and most of the time the strap in not even on the camera.
Same happen to me with leash on Xpro-2 with 56f1.2 camera drop on a couch I was leaning on. After a week I got mail from Peak Design about the recall and they offer new anchors.The most irritating thing on the PD strap is the anchors line running too short and the clips are sitting always in the way.Now using 4V design lusso leather strap, Gordy's hand strap and old Black rapid for bigger zooms.
@@BoorayPerry Since you did not mention the hassle of removing the strap connections when using tripod ... hence, my assumption.:). I use a black rapid and just unscrew the attachment to set on tripod via acra Swiss built into the L-bracket which I leave on the camera all the time ... not a biggie for me. Also does all those peak design connectors hanging bug you? They did me ... hence removed and back to the Black Rapid.
@@hubertstevecole9807 I also have a grip with a built in arca swiss mount. I don't take the bracket of to mount a tripod. The dangly Peak anchor doesn't bother me because there is only one 😁
Looking at this and other videos (having not used any of these products yet), and I really worry about the tripod screw coming loose in use. Threaded fasteners have a habit of doing that. Do some of these have a locking mechanism to prevent loosening?
Since you talk about the spider holster being your favorite, what do you think of the PD Capture? I just looked at the Blackrapid sport x with a QD connector and a really right stuff L plate. What is your opinion of that set up?
What I don't like about the capture is that there's no way to quickly get it off your hip. I think of that more as something for you to lock your camera into if you are hiking or such

I have a peak design slide and I was planning to get the L plate for my camera when I noticed they primarily recommended the QD connection for its use. That got me thinking about these QD connections but I just learned of that last night so I don’t know how secure or efficient they are.
That's a fancy way of saying "overthinking." :) I assure you that many photographers who wear there gear for 7 hours a day take strap selection very seriously. :)
