Hell yeah Black Sabbath man such s great band they were indeed the first heavy metal band and without them we would kind of not be here. My favorite record by them is Heaven and Hell. Awesome ranking
Great ranking. My personal ranking 20: Forbidden, songs feel uninspired. Tony Iommi propably had his mind on the Ozzy reunion. 19: Never say Die! This shows that the band has fallen apart. Ozzy sounds disinterested and aside from the title track and that’s only because it feels like a Thin Lizzy song. Junior eyes is ok for what it is. I personally can’t stand Johnny blade. Everything else is just forgettable 18: Born again, there are some good songs here Disturbing the Priest, Zero the hero and and the Title Track, but the mix ruins the whole thing for me. It’s muddy and way too raw for its own good. 17: Cross Purposes: a decent record, but it’s feels out of its time so the all the keyboard textures. Coming out in 94 when Grunge and alt rock is all the rage, this falls flat for me. 16: Seventh Star: don’t even want to include this cause it wasn’t meant to be a Sabbath Album, but was suppose to be an Iommi Solo album, but the label forced him to do this Sabbath, cause they Didnt think iy would sell as an Iommi Solo. I Like Glenn Hughes as a vokalist, considering how much of a mess he was at the time. songs like In for the Kill, Turn to Stone, Seventh Star, good songs. Not sabbath but decent. 15: technical Ecstasy..this feels more like Sabbath trying to make a Queen Record. Queen is one of my favorite bands, but this style doesn’t do Sabbath any favors. Backstreet kidz and Dirty women are the only goood songs on this. Rock roll doctor sounds, just dumb. If it would’ve been a KISS song I would get it. As a sabbath song, I don’t. 14: Eternal Idol: might’ve been higher if Ray Gillen would’ve song, because I can tell these written with his vocal style in mind, but as is, not to bad. Like songs like The Shining, Glory Ride and Eternal idol. Nightmare could’ve worked on a Dio era sabbath Record 13: TYR: great song, interesting concept. Like songs like Anno Mundi and the Sabbath Stones. The only thing is Feels Good To Me should’ve not been on there at all 12: Sabotage, (sorry) like Hole in the Sky and Symptom of the Universe, but that’s not enough for me to put it higher 11: The Devil you know. I think this album is great. bible black is one of favorite Dio era songs. Atom and Evil and Breaking into heaven. This is just doomy and heavy and I adore it 9: headless Cross. I really like this one. The title track headless cross is a great song. Night wing. Devil and Daughter. When Death Calls is easily the best Tony Martin era Sabbath song. 8: Black Sabbath debut: I like it. Title track, NIB and wicked. It’s creepy, haunting and forbodding. 7: Dehumanizer: this is the heaviest Sabbath Album. Songs like Computer God, Time Machine, After All the Dead, I, Sins of the Father, just amazing 6: paranoid: might be a little low for some, but I never need to hear Paranoid or Iron Man again. Still like War Pigs. The rest is solid 5: volume 4: I like the experimentation here, also giving us some great material like Cornucopia, Under the Sun, Supernaut and Snowblind. Also really love Wheels of Confusion 4: Mob Rules: Sign of the Southern Cross..don’t really need to say any more than that. Great production, also a solid debut from Vinny Appice on Drums, filling in great with the band after Bill Ward 3: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: The band at the proggiest. Amazing songs like the title Track, National Acrobat, Spiral architect and Sabbra Cadabra, just amazing songwriting from start to finish 2: master of Reality: sweet Leaf, After Forever, Lord Of This world and Children of the Grave. Those are enough to put it in my top 3. Don’t mind Solitude. 1: Heaven and Hell. I can’t really say anything other than you have Dio singing with Sabbath and Martin Birch is producing. What more is there to say? Neon Knight, Children of the Sea, Lady Evil, Die Young, all just total Bangers! And then there’s the title Track, Heaven and hell…can’t get enough Of it
Agree with your top four . Disappointed with your ranking of seventh star. Glen Hughes does a great job. Especially stranger to love . But yes , Ozzy is the master no doubt about it. I’m in my sixtys so I was there so to speak. Great the young ones like yourself are all geared up for Sabbath. Cheers.
1. Sabbath bloody sabbath 2. Volume 4 3. Sabotage 4. Master of Reality 5. Born again 6. Black Sabbath 7. Paranoid 8. Mob rules 9. Headless cross 10. Heaven and hell After these ten I loose interest. But sabbath bloody sabbath is just such a masterpiece omg it’s so crunchy, I think this album has Ozzy’s best vocals. Killing yourself to live is my favorite sabbath song of all time and I just love the album and it means a lot to me 🤘rock on brother
I enjoyed your video. My ranking changes often. Here is where it sits today. One through ten are five star albums. 20. Eternal Idol 19. Headless Cross 18. Forbidden- I think the biggest problem with this album is its production. It has great riffs. I am not bothered by Ice T's few seconds of spoken word. I could see a remixed or remastered version going up a ranking or two. 17. Seventh Star 16. Tyr 15. Cross Purposes 14. Never Say Die 13. 13 12. Technical Ecstacy 11. The Devil You Know 10. Black Sabbath 9. Dehumanizer 8. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 7. Volume Four- Changes brings it down slightly. All of the other tracks are awesome. 6. Born Again- our biggest difference of opinion. I get that it's a divisive album, but it's a masterpiece to me. 5. Paranoid- Part of me wants to rank this a little lower because of how overplayed the songs are on this album, but I can't ignore the impact this album had on me. 4. Sabotage- This album has been number one on my list at some points. 3. Master of Reality- This album is occasionally at number one. 2. Mob Rules- Sometimes this one is at number one. 1. Heaven and Hell
Of the ones I've heard, only Ozzy and Dio 13. 13 12. Dehumanizer 11. Never Say Die 10. Techical Ecstasy 9. The Mob Rules 8. Black Sabbath 7. The Devil You Know 6. Paranoid 5. Vol. 4 4. Sabotage 3. Master of Reality 2. Heaven and Hell 1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Interesting listen. I agree...after all is amazing, eerie, dark, very cool tune about life after death. Great lyrics. Sometimes, it's my favorite black sabbath song.
Hey, glad you liked Forbidden. I've always been a fan of it. I thought the songs were very good. My only disagreement would be your placement of Mob Rules, but it's all good. Awesome ranking.
Great choice for #1, that album doesn't get enough love. Heard some ppl say the latter half is lacking, but imo only really relative to the first which is probably their best ever album side.
For me, it would be: 1. Heaven and Hell 2. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 3. Seventh Star 4. Headless Cross 5. Sabotage 6. Tyr 7. Master of Reality 8. Mob Rules 9. Paranoid 10. The Eternal Idol 11. Vol. 4 12. Black Sabbath 13. Born Again 14. Dehumanizer 15. Cross Purposes 16. 13 17. Technical Ecstasy 18. Never Say Die 19. Forbidden
My top 5: 1. Headless Cross 2. Sabotage 3. Paranoid 4. Heaven and Hell 5. Born Again My bottom 5: 1. Never Say Die! 2. Seventh Star 3. Forbidden 4. The Eternal Idol 5. Dehumanizer
YES! Another Sabotage stan! I never find anyone that loves this record as much as I do. Anytime I tell people I prefer the second trilogy over the first one (They're epic too no doubt) I get the stink-face of, "BLASPHEMY" and eyes full of rage and confusion.
Headless Cross and Tyr are perfect albums. Cross Purposes and Forbidden are great too. From the ozzy era the first album, Paranoid, Master of Reality are the best from that era. 13 is the worst Black Sabbath album of all time with a doubt. One of the most boring metal albums of all time. I can't stand it. All of the tracks on 13 are freaking boring and extremely bad.
You should do a Metalhead Reviews of Lilith Czar's album Created from Filth and Dust. Lilith Czar was formerly known as Juliet Simms. Created from Filth and Dust will be out April 23rd. The first single is out now, entitled "King".
Totally agree with number 1. Sabotage might make an appearance on top 13 metal albums when I make that video. However I disagree with number 18. The album 13 would be in my top 5 Sabbath albums Im sorry. Paranoid is played too much and if I never hear some of those again it will suit me fine. Im not a huge fan of Zeppelin but me and a lot of others would love if you would rank their albums. Also the discography would not be as large. Great video and put what you like where you like it regardless of others opinions. Its all subjective anyway. Have a good one man.
I haven't even heard every Sabbath album, I know it feels weird saying that. My favorite album from them is "HEAVEN & HELL" The rest of my top 5 might be 'BORN AGAIN' ' PARANOID' 'MOB RULES' 'VOLUME 4' ?
Great ranking. Vol. 4 remains my favorite as it has got the bluesy doom sound of the early Ozzy period combined with the progressiveness of the later Ozzy period.
1. The Mob Rules 2. Paranoid 3. Born Again 4. Sabotage 5. Black Sabbath 6. Tyr 7. 13 8. Dehumanizer 9. 7th Star 10. Masters Of Reality 11. Heaven and Hell 12. Headless Cross 13. The Eternal Idol 14. Vol.4 15. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 16. Never Say Die! 17. Technical Ecstasy 18. Cross Purposes 19. Forbidden Just My Opinion!!! 🙈 (As of 18/12/2022)
Oh my... I only know the Ozzy albums (including 13) and the three Dio albums. I love Dio, but even the best with him isn’t what I call “Black Sabbath” in my world which is with Ozzy. Maybe I’ll give the rest a shot sometime, but it’s honestly not what I’m most excited about.
already own the rhino warner bros black box and dio rules of hell box set remastered versions on cd audio, i also own the irs records tony martin 4 cd sabbath. then the castle records born again seventh star and eternal idol thats my sabbath collection.then 13 and heaven and hell devil you know are just the standard jewel case cds
Worst to Best! Starting Off With, 2 Of the Worst Sabbath Albums! 19. Forbidden 18. Never Say Die! Now, We Get to The Albums I Listen To. 17. Master of Reality 16. Cross Purposes 15. Eternal Idol 14. 13 13. Dehumanizer 12. TYR 11. Headless Cross 10. Heaven and Hell 9. Seventh Star 8. Born Again 7. Technical Ecstasy 6. Mob Rules 5. Sabotage 4. Vol 4 3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath 2. Black Sabbath 1. Paranoid Yeah, I'm Not That Big Into Master of Reality.
Master of Reality is my favorite Black Sabbath album! Never Say Die isn't a great album, but that song alone makes it better than Technical Ecstasy. Dehumanizer would be 9 on my list and Born Again would be 10. Honestly have no interest in any vocalists after Born Again. Without Tony and Geezer together it's just not Black Sabbath to me.
I find it difficult to compare the Ozzy and the Dio era. To me these are too different bands with totally different music styles apart from having different singers. Can‘t stand the commercial dio fantasy stuff almost everybody seems to love. Good choice with Sabotage at #1!👍
NEVER SAY DIE and TECHNICAL ECSTASY were the reason why DIO got in the band so it is clear they had weak material with songs that had little to do with the kings of DOOM. the MARTIN YEARS were really good, and he did what ANY other legend didn't DO for the band, THE LYRICS were good and production wise were dated, some people think that heavier is better and they listen to many FORGETABLE songs like the ones on "the devil you know" which is the worst thing ever done by DIO. I only AGREE on the BORN AGAIN opinion 100%
Yes your choice of Forbidden at 13 is controversial.Terrible.Tony Martin was a great singer for Sabbath and I would rate Headless Cross and Eternal Idol above some of the Ozzy Osbourne albums and I have been a Sab fan since the early 70s.Yes I am an old bugger. But ,hey, everyone to their opinion
Born Again is wayyyyyyyy too low in my opinion. I’d have it in the middle. I think Seventh Star is ok. Worst for me is either 13 or TYR. The Eternal Idol is my favourite Tony Martin album. I agree Forbidden is really underrated and Mob Rules is about where I’d put it too. This ranking is pretty accurate overall I feel. You nailed the top 5. I’m not fussed with the order. They’re all classics. Favourite is Vol 4
