Think about what a golden era this was for metal: you had Sabbath with Dio, Judas Priest with Halford and Iron Maiden with Dickenson, all in their absolute primes. Legendary.
Not to mention the fact that Ozzy got in his right mind and decided to want a successful career. Not gonna get into the who is better - Ozzy or Dio debate here. They were both great in their own right, vastly different stylistically, but great nonetheless. I had the privilege to see the Dio fronted Sabbath in Lakeland FL. circa 1982 or so. They put on a memorable show. A few months before or after Sabbath, I had tickets to see Ozzy in Orlando. Unfortunately Randy Rhoads met his tragic end, and of course Ozzy cancelled. They got someone, Pat Travers or Robin Trower, I don't remember to fill in, but it was hands down the single most somber concert I ever attended. Conversely I had tickets to see Clapton in Biloxi MS just 5 days after SRV died in Alpine Valley. We were so apprehensive that EC would cancel, but the show went on. Clapton did not say a word about SRV. He just let his guitar mourn, and Lord did it ever. It was quite a memorable and cathartic performance.
The early '80s were the 'Golden Age of Heavy Metal & Hard Rock, i.e., BLACK SABBATH w/DIO; OZZY w/Randy RHOADS; JUDAS PRIEST w/Rob 'The Metal GOD' Halford; IRON MAIDEN w/Bruce DICKINSON; TRIUMPH w/Rik EMMETT; JOURNEY w/Steve PERRY; VAN HALEN w/David Lee Roth; RUSH w/Geddy LEE; AC\DC w/Brian JOHNSON; SCORPIONS w/Klaus MEINE; KISS w/Paul STANLEY; QUEEN w/Freddie MERCURY; BLUE ÖYSTER CÜLT w/Eric BLOOM; Y&T w/Dave MENIKETTI; et cetera. My GOD! The talent was incredible. No autotune; no samples; no loops.
@Remington Longshaft Tony Martin was AWESOME! But... in the Tony Martin era (or should I say: Tony Iommi era) Black Sabbath wasn't so heavy as the Ozzy and Dio era. With Tony Martin, everything was more like a little bit of Hair Metal mixed with Power Metal. Fans actually missed the good old days, and after the failure of the Forbidden album, Iommy got the original band together for the Reunion Tour which was a total success. After that, fans wanted Black Sabbath to be what it was back in the 70's.
@@MetalMe55iah It’s true! Iommy was the heart of Black Sabbath, just like Eddie Van Halen in Van Halen and not David Lee Roth. But if we are ONLY going to talk about the Sabbath’s singers I definitely would say that Ozzy was the best, then Dio, then Martin, I didn’t like Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes too much.
@@summermcpherson8209 Yes he was. He said there was always Opera music 🎶 around his house. I remember buying a cassette tape of Mario Lanza many years ago just to hear his voice and boy..that man was good, but I just couldn't get into the whole Opera thing😆😄
So why would anyone want to do opera? It's a crappy style of music... He's the best, or at least one of the best rock/heavy metal singers of all time, and opera singers would be terrible at rock
Going against the grain here, but I'm going to say it anyways, Ozzy was a better singer live, Dio better in the studio. Black Sabbath Paris 1970 illustrates that in my opinion.
@@biblybims9868 Dio’s solo work is awesome, but Ozzy has Blizzard Of Ozz, Diary Of A Madman, Bark At The Moon, The Ultimate Sin, No Rest for the Wicked, and No More Tears.
@@_PuppetMaster86 oh hell yeah buddy,I love em both,I love anything ozzy, always have,I was a bit late with the Dio scene, they are both heavy weight singers,i just prefer RJD voice because he’s more versatile, but love em both, and ozzys skill set on digging out the best lead players is just second to none
RJ Dio, one of Rocks best ever sounded voice, told the truth. But the whole lyrircs are incredible... Saw him 7 times. 5 Times with Rainbow (with Cozy Powell..) and twice with BS. RIP RJD - small man, but a giant on stage.
No one could sing like Dio....he was one of a kind....had an operatic voice that could rise and fall like thunder and growl and snarl like a beast of legends....no one ever came close to his command of the genre...he owned it....he was the real deal.
@@johnxina5126 I think Tino meant that when they did the original Heaven and Hell sessions Geezer wasn't around so Geoff Nichols played bass when they were developing this song. Geoff's previous band (Quartz) had a song called Mainline Riders that had a very similar bassline to this. :)
Agreed Geezer and Lemmy are 2 main reasons I own a bass I can’t play yet? But I will learn I just got it for Christmas it’s a fender p bass but it’s good for beginners. As well as Cliff from AC/DC and Cliff Burton rock in peace from Metallica as well as Robert also from Ozzy and Metallica. And many others including one of the legends herself Carol Kaye.
The only point I'll bring, and I debate it so often, Ozzy and the original "Black Sabbath", "what is this, that stands before me...." Clash of the Titans"....good God, I just don't know....🙁
The greatest Frontman that ever lived. Saw him live at least a dozen times and he was First Rate every show. He was humble and thanked the fans like a true gentleman because he knew without them he was nothing. Pure Class.
Good grief, Ronnie James Dio was one of the all-time greatest metal gods.. May he rest in peace. I will always cherish his voice every time I hear it until I am dead.

Saw them tour Heaven and Hell for the first time, We all HATED DIO for taking Ozzy's place. Then we saw the concert and knew it was the right move. We were all pissed going in and he had to win us over and he did. You don't mess with Black Sabbath and Dio is maybe the only one who have carried them to a new chapter and bring us along.
Not me, being a big Rainbow fan I was excited to hear Ronnie, this album & tour. I must admit I was sorry to see Ozzy leave but the last album NSDie was kinda bland...then Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz gave us Randy & those great albums with Randy....that's my take on the Ozzy/Ronnie Sabbath story
I'll start getting saying that Ozzy's voice is one of the fundaments that made Black Sabbath be. But Dio's voice is something else. He's the best singer in my book and also a good man who cared about every one of his fans. The world would have been a much better place if he was still alive. I wish all Black Sabbath fans the best and RIP Ronnie, you are and will be forever missed.

"The closer you get to the meaning, the sooner you know you're dreamin'" - this is exactly how I would describe the time passing and heading towards death. Impeccable performance.
It is about an extremly religius thinking, about if you do the well is your work, and if you do a wrong you are a bad person, "sing me a song, you are a singer, do me a wrong, you are a bringer of evil". That part is for those blind mind person who thinks whit that extremly religius being and "the closer you get to the meaning, the sooner you now that you are dreaming" is the realization that you can enjoy the things the live has and that does not make you a bad person " the lover of live, is not a sinner". The song is about how they put you in heaven or in hell always thinking they have the only truth while blind your dreams. 🤘
Can I go out on a limb and say, Ronnie isn’t only the best singer in metal, but one of the best singers in rock and recorded music ever? His technique in breath support is text book perfect. And his swagger, groove and soul is as good as anyone in the 60’s decade.

Was lucky to see them once on the Dehumanizer tour at the Sunrise Musical Theater in Florida back in the early nineties. Danzig opened on his How the Gods Kill tour. Was a great show.
My uncle talks about this tour this was the black & blue tour he gets goose bumps as big as golf balls when he talks about said it was amazing. He said when they walked into Hara Arena is looked like a huge funeral home lol
SuperDriven1 He was a class act. I seen him with Sabbath in 92'. He was sick with the flu and still did the show. He could of easily cancelled it but told the crowd he would never do that. He always was a guy that loved his fans... he knew that if it wasn't for us, he wouldn't be there. One of the greatest of all times.
Ronnie uses his voice like an instrument- he’s a true singer and artist… there’s not any signal processing on his voice I can hear, no reverb, doubling, echo, delay … just pure voice … the vocal and guitar call and response at the 5 minute mark is incredibly strong… gets the crowd to sing on and on and on… he sounds so sober and cool talking to them audience… “it’s all you people on the sides and way up in heaven that we want!” He gets them to compete with each other! They are having so much fun singing with him!

Have you heard of Candlemass from the early, mid 80s? You might like them. Pure doom with just incredible opera vocals. Check out a song called Samarithan.
I had actually heard about Dio joining Sabbath before the album came out so it was no surprise. However when I bought "Down to Earth" I was stunned to hear Grahm Bonnett instead of RJD, I didn't listen to the album for months tho I grew to like it.

Saw these guys on this tour back in 1980 Hollywood sportitorium Hollywood Florida excellent band That was my favorite album at that time. Lost children of the Sea, Lady evil, heaven n hell, the whole album was actually amazing ,still listen to it in 2024.
Ozzy was instrumental in making Sabbath Sabbath - but with Dio the music picked up pace and got a new dimension because his voice is such an incredible instrument in its own right.

Real Sabbath and Metal fans will never forget the Triumphant Dio Years. Everyone has their opinion on who they prefer, but at the end of the day let's all just bang our heads and enjoy some great fucking music.
I've listened to Rap and Dance for 20+ years and have just discovered Metal and there's no going back. Dio is a masterful showman, one of the best performances I've ever seen, I would have loved to have seen him live. Amazing. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
RJD composes crowds and gives insane performances all in one. Now I understand why rock music was so revered and epic compared to today.. This was just one song and it felt like a whole show, talk about getting your money's worth. Masters of craft at work
Ronnie was the finest at his craft. He expected the best from himself and his band mates. I was lucky enough to see him at the United Center in Downtown Chicago on his Mob Rules tour. He blew the lid off the place. Just an A++ performance. It's hard to find anyone that could be his equal. RIP my friend.

For ALL have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 1. Admit you are a sinner. 2. Just simply 😍 believe in your heart ❤️ that Jesus Christ is your Savior for your sins. *If you do, you will go to heaven.
@@deputy1968 We don't need to repent of our sins to be saved. Salvation is a ONE-TIME EVENT. You cannot keep being saved and unsaved repeatedly. Jn 3:16 Acts 16:30-31 (what must I do to be SAVED?) Romans 10:9 Galatians 3 Jonah 3:10 Hebrew 10:26 Romans 5:18 Titus 3:5-6 Repentance of sin is a type of work that's done actively. Jonah 3:10. And God saw their WORKS; THAT THEY TURNED FROM THEIR EVIL WAY; Titus 3:5-6 NOT BY WORKS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS (REPENT OF SINS) which we have done, BUT ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY HE SAVED US by the washing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior; That being JUSTIFIED BY HIS GRACE, we should be heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ALSO We cannot turn from all our sins which means that we still have unrepented sins. That makes any churchgoers guilty when they think they need to repent of their sins to be saved from condemnation. That's why God's sacrifice 🙏, burial, and resurrection is the one & only narrow path to be saved. He did all the work. Humans just need to believe in His work on the calvary. God bless. List where Jesus Christ says exactly the these words, "repent of your sins to be saved." Nowhere is it found in the Bible. If we need to repent of our sins to be saved, then Jesus didn't need to die for our sins. Repent means change of mind.

I saw Sabbath with Ozzy a few times back in the 70's. I saw this line up twice once in Long Beach and once in 1980 along with 75,000 others in the LA Coliseum. Dio had quite the vocals and stage presence. RIP RJD.
Heaven and Hell is without a doubt the best piece of music ever composed in human history, and to have Dio sing it just elevates it to new unchartered levels.
This is real Heavy Metal , No screaming unintelligibly , no wall of sound where you cannot differentiate the instruments . An incredibly simple but incredibly evil sounding guitar riff , smooth rolling bass guitar , great drumming and of course Ronnie James Dio ..
DIO, displays a jaunty masterful confidence when he moves back and forth that doesn't have a hint of arrogance is what I find captivating about him. It's also the eye looks along with the facial expression that goes with that back and forth motions of his .

A voz do Dio era o próprio Heaven and Hell!
Saw this concert in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and it was amazing. Tony Iommi is the Godfather of the riff and what a voice Ronnie had! Geezer on the bass and Vinnie Appice on the drums. Just Amazing as I've never seen speakers chained to the ceiling and floor in a concave manner. I thought the roof was going to blow off!
Oh man, Vinny Appice is a sight to behold live, seen him play three times, a true drumming God. Edit: I also heard his older brother Carmine in the early 70's.
Heaven and Hell is always my favorite song. Because it explains the story of my entire life. And still lives on today . Thos song will be played at my funeral when it's time to lay me down forever.
