Had to laugh. I’ve seen Ozzy a number of times and many video clips from his career. To me, he has always looked awkward, like his body is perpetually in a different time signature than the rest of the band. BUT, vocally he never missed a beat. I don’t know how he does it because that would totally mess me up. So many good Sabbath songs. First generation metal right here, influenced by the hard rock and psychedelic rock of the day, plus a healthy dose of blues. Cheers!

Ok had to comment again since you asked for band suggestions. One I think you will truly love after watching a bunch of your reactions is Rush. This 3-piece band from Canada had 19 studio albums over 40 years, and they are one of the defining members of the progressive rock movement. Prog has many of the same influences as metal but is a little less guitar-centered; with complex, multi-part songs. Rush’s lyrics are always engaging (that what really made me think you’d like them). They are all masters of their instruments, and the drummer is considered by many to be the best rock drummer that ever lived. I would suggest Tom Sawyer, The Spirit of Radio, or Limelight to start. His awkwardness works. After all, he is singing a song called "Paranoid". Ozzy is so influential that his head bobbing, while I wouldn't suggest he was the first to do that, he probably influenced the head bangers. when he got comfortable on stage, he took on a sinister persona instead of the usual David Lee Roth, Kiss, alpha male image. Which is a relief.

you are right... he was a guy who let loose during live performances. here he is not only in front of cameras, this was forTV! lip sincing for commercial television, thus he was reserved.

Wait, wait. If you're going the Sabbath route, please check out the studio version of War Pigs. Avoid the one with the newer video - not cool. The live version is fun if you already know the tune and the band.

Ozzy was only 22 here. It must be daunting being so young and performing on TV.

I'd argue that Ozzy was always awkward and is to this day. I think it's a big part of his appeal. He's awkward, and he sings about feeling awkward-- and angry, lonely, depressed, effed up. So much of the heavy metal persona is about posturing as a glamorous sex god or a scary badass. Ozzy is neither. There's something very honest and endearing about it.

Now do Heaven and Hell, with the second lead singer, Ronnie James Dio! You will love both of these singers.

The most important point to take away about Black Sabbath is that they basically invented Heavy Metal. This is a fact that is well established and Sabbath has influenced pretty much every metal and hard rock band since the late 60's. As for the singer, Ozzy Osbourne, would go on to eventually be fired from Sabbath in the late 70's (lots of bad blood for many years on this story) and would become a major presence in metal as a solo artist through the 80's and 90's, renowned as the 'Prince of Darkness' partly due to several events in the 80's where he bit the head off a live bat and dove, both separate incidents and circumstances. Most of Ozzy's craziest adventures have been fueled by his addiction to alcohol and drugs throughout his career. In many circles though, he is considered to have one of the best stage personas of any in metal and hard rock. Lastly, I must mention; the guitar player here, Tony Iommi kept Black Sabbath going for 50 years, having never left the band. The original band (except drummer) reformed in 2013 and ended a final world tour together back in 2017. They also put out a studio album in 2013 with original line up called '13'. Check it out too

he's 19 yrs.old.i would think making a video back in 1970 must of been surreal,and Ozzy was just taking it in for their first video..hence aren't we all a little awkward when we first get on stage.

I have been a Black Sabbath fan for 45 years and Ozzy always has had that stage presence. I have seen them live 4 times.

There was a time on ‘top of the pops’ where bands were required to mime by the BBC. This might be one of those occasions. It upset many bands.

I think the lip syncing is throwing him off, but also he is used to going nuts on stage in front of a live audience. Having to remain calm, keep all his clothes on and having no audience is throwing him off.

Please please please watch/react to War Pigs live in Paris by Black Sabbath...it actually sounds better than the studio version and you can witness the drummer playing his ASS off...I knew Black Sabbath and saw that video and I was like Holy F*ck man!! How did I not know the drummer..

For anything prior to the mod 80s id just try to find lyric vids and avoid anything that says its a video or official video. They didn't make videos back then with few exceptions. You'll usually just be viewing some youtuber attempting to create their own video and they usually suck.

Hehe Ozzy always seems a bit 'out of it'.. that's just him. That man is about as crazy metal as it comes. Some of the tour stories I have heard from others who have toured with him are insane lol. From the Ozzy era of Black Sabbath.. you should check out "Iron Man", "War Pigs", "NIB", "Black Sabbath" and from their last album "God is Dead?" They have had other vocalists in their lineup as well. My personal favorite (and the one that got me into metal back in the 80's) Ronnie James Dio. From his era in Black Sabbath.. the song "Heaven and Hell", "Die Young", "Mob Rules", "Children of the Sea", "Sign of the Southern Cross" and from his later album with them "TV Crimes", "After All (The Dead)", "I", "Letters From Earth", and "Computer God" I am not familiar with their other singer's work so I have nothing to offer from his era.
