The ESB Vader is superior. The Kenobi figure used the ANH body that was improved with the ESB figure for some reason even though all they needed to do was swap the gloves, chest box, and paint the eyes red.
The ESB Vader is actually a completely new sculpt from the ANH sculpt, head to toe. The only place I’m unsure is the boots, those may be re-use, I’d have to get a closer look again. The helmet between the two is also a completely different sculpt. I think what they should have done, was take the ESB base figure, do a retool of the chest box, swap out the forearms, and throw on the ANH helmet. I think that would’ve been the best of both worlds there, rather than just straight re-use of the ANH body.
Given that the Kenobi figure is a later release then no butterfly joints is shocking. I’d expect these figures articulation to get better as time progresses not worse given you may want to adopt the same pose for both figures.
One tiny nitpick that I have about the review is that I heard that the ESB Vader's elbow joint goes past 90° degrees (similar to the new clones elbow) and the New Hope Vader doesn't. And the review's glossing past the articulation check and saying it's the same, may be in fact inaccurate. So hopefully, you can double check. 'Cause it would be nice to know for sure.
Hey Lukeness you missed a few things. The Empire Strikes Back Vader has a new helmet sculpt. The triangular grill under the chin is bigger. Also the ESB version has waaay better neck articulation. The forearms are a new sculpt. Better elbow bend on ESB, plus check out the hinge on the back of Kenobi Vader's arm. Even when straight it's visible. The gloves are different too. ESB has banded pattern along the length of the glove. A New Hope Vader has it around the glove. The control boxes on the torso are different sizes. Buttons are different colours too. I'd be interested to see the Kenobi Vader next to the ANH Vader.
First of all. No hate. I love the figure. But notice how the Kenobi Vader's shoulder armor is shaped like a V. It's supposed to be more flat with the curves, like the ESB one. Also, the shoulderpads are supposed to be black. ALSO... The chestbox is extremely big? I think The Black Series could've avoided these inaccuracies very effortlessly. It seems a little rushed in my opinion.
Thanks for this review. Good to know they are not as different as I originally thought. Still, I think I'm gonna hold off to see what ROTJ might bring in 2023 and maybe just mayyyybeee a battle damaged Vader from Obi Wan Kenobi.
Both are so awesome, to my eye when on a shelf display from 3 feet away, they’re identical so as a boxed collector primarily the box is the chief distinction. Fortunately i was able to get these in the wild and own a couple of each. If I had to pick one over the other I’d agree and give ESB the slight edge (figure) and Kenobi (box)No longer do I collect t every black series offering but the Vader figures are always worth tracking down. Looking forward to the hologram Vader figure. comparison video as always.
I appreciate you doing this video because I was curious about what - - if anything - - was different or noteworthy about the Kenobi series Vader. It sounds as if the silver shoulder pads are literally the only positive or interesting justification for anyone purchasing the Kenobi series Vader. The fact that he does not have butterfly joints, which are a fairly standard Black Series articulation feature nowadays, is a huge fail by Hasbro. I have to wonder, though, why you did not include the A New Hope Vader in this comparison video. Comparing and contrasting all three Vader figures in the same video would have been most informative.
I’ve noticed a defect with the empire Vader figure that all of them have. on the right cheek, it is actually silver, not black. Mine has it, so I looked up a review To see if anybody else had it and it turns out all of the reviews I’ve seen has it. Edit: I did some digging and found out that Vader has this in the movies so it is not a defect. Just attention to detail.

I like the Empire Vader for the fact that the cape looks better and the shoulders don't look weird. I really like the RoTS helmet over the others though.
who really f cares about all those points of articulation what matters is which looks better and that is the Star Wars/ Kenobi with the brown or red eyes....

Obi wan vader makes that esb version look antiquated, I feel the need to mention this is post Ep 3 Vader. At his worst. The armor looks most like when he screams noooo. When i look at the helmet from the side he looks tragic its awesome. The helmet is different from the esb version it seems.
