If you take a look at the ingredients list of a bar of soap your main concern should not be the oils used, it should be what base/lye was used. What makes Black Soap fake or real is based on what type of base/lye was used. Real African Black Soap made in Africa is not made with any type of synthetic (a.k.a man-made) base/lye, it's made with a completely organic base either from plant ash and/or potash. In the next video, I'll prove it to you by showing you how to make your own REAL Black Soap from scratch.
Here's an example of an ingredient list of a popular fake black soap. The ingredients are listed, and I added a short comment next to each so, you know what to look out for:
African Black Soap Base - The base used is not even given b/c it's most like fake
African Shea Butter* - Don't be distracted by the natural oils used, all soaps recipes need some form of oil. The base used is what we care about
Oats
Aloe
Plantain Extract
Vitamin E
Essential Oil Blend
Vegetable Glycerin
Palm Ash - A very small amount of Plam Ash so as a base it's insignificant
Rosemary Extract
Iron Oxides - Synthetic pigment to make it look like real black soap. this is what makes the soap super black so make consumers think, "this must be black soap"

MissLeaStarBeauty I was just gonna say I use the Shea Moisture kind. It doesn't have any harsh ingredients listed in it. At least it doesn't say it does. I usually use the real raw african black soap. But I took a chance on the Shea Moisture because the ingredients listed were natural. Smh, they ain't no better than any of the other ones.😡 I do like their hair products though.

To everyone that is getting a reality check from this , don't panic! Lol. I say that cause some might have been using the dark smooth soap and been seeing differences in your skin or hair. if that's the case keep doing it, no point in switching and now what was improving your hair or skin is causing issues. This is a very informative video but she's not telling you to throw anything away. Just building your knowledge bank. Read the ingredients on your black soap. Always go by the ingredient list is something else I gain from this video. Cause based on GB findings black soap shouldn't have ingredients you can't pronounce. If it does then it's probably fake. Also If it matters to you, buying the fake will not support families back in Africa who make the real black soap and depends on the sales. It matters to me so the black soap I get is always the ones made back in Africa. GB (green beauty) if I'm wrong let us know hun. 🤗 💗💗💟💟🤗😍👏

I've been using real African black soap for 5 years and I won't go back. I knew from the get go the difference between the fake shit and the real stuff because I've learned that usually ugly products are the best, haha. My hair and skin love it. I don't feel like I'm squeaky clean with a film on me after washing with it like I do with all commercial soaps. It doesn't really have a nice smell, but I don't care. Ever since using it, I no longer have dry patches on my skin and eczema breakouts. Thanks for this wonderful video.

I found this out the hard way when I used Shea Moisture’s “African Black” soap years ago. I hoped it would clear my eczema, but it made it way worse. I try to look at ingredients first. If I can’t pronounce it, it’s most likely not supposed to go IN or ON my body. Thank you so much for making this video!

Anyone who hasn't switched to black soap yet is missing out. It's the only soap I've used for years and I'd never go back. It's too sticky as a shampoo for my super-fine textured (Caucasian) hair, but for skin you can't beat it. Also, it cleared up every single skin issue my 90-year old grandma kept having, when none of the prescribed creams etc. were doing anything for her. Acne, eczema, wounds that won't heal, psoriasis, etc. Oh- and I love the natural, earthy smell. With a real sea sponge, there's nothing better.

Girl you do your home work really well. You really know what you are talking about knowing the difference between black soap from Ghana and Nigeria is not something even us we known(I'm from Ghana) I live in an area where black soap is made n I just recently got to know the difference. In my community black soap is made from plantain or banana ashes mixed with red palm oil which is really good in vitamin E and is very good for hair n skin. The palm oil is sometimes replaced with palm kernel oil( I dont even know if you people know what it is) it's an oil from the palm seed not from the red part of the fruit but from the seed itself Palm kernel oil is known to Thicken hair it is really good for skin too I just want to add some more hope this is helpful.

There is an African store in my mall that sells real black soap. I have trouble keeping it from breaking down so maybe I should store it in the fridge. However it's good for hair and skin. I love it. I also use the fake black soaps on my face (not hair, they are horrid. I know because I tried). But on my face it has improved my skin over the past three years. However, having used them both I prefer the natural one. It is like butter.

Based on some comments read, I'm glad to know that Dudu Osun is authentic because that's what I've been using to completely clear my skin. At first I was skeptical because of the shape but when I cut it into pieces, I'd see tiny bits of grains like what you'd see in the original ones. It was also really easy to cut and it dissolves quickly in water. I will continue to use it for now but I will certainly like to use the original ones in the future!

Great explanation on soap molecules. Nice graphics and it doesn't just apply to African black soap. ALL real soap cleans this way. ALL soaps made without detergents and hardeners will dissolve naturally in water. It does NOT just apply to African black soap as what this video indirectly implies. Also, Lye is NOT a man made hardener. It is made from wood ashes which is used to mix with oils to make soap. ALL soap is made with lye or potash including the soap you buy at the store. Lye mixed with oil creates a natural byproduct called glycerin which is a natural moisturizer to your skin. Big soap companies take out this glycerin and replace it with detergents and chemical hardeners that utterly ruin your skin. They then take this glycerin and put it in the women beauty products and jack up the prices and at the same time cheapen the soap. That is why women pay so much for their beauty products. So, if you find a good soap maker like me, keep him. It doesn't just apply to African black soap. It took me a while to learn the ins and outs and to find a good combination of oils but in the 7 years I have been making and selling it I haven't had to buy shampoo or shaving cream and I very very rarely use deodorant. When people buy my soap I come right out and tell them "Five minutes after getting out of the shower, your going to rub your forehead and say Damn!". Anyway, lye based soap is not a bad thing. It is what they take out of the soap when it concerns manufacturing and it is the combination of oils that is used that determines good soap. Not to mention an overuse of badly measured lye so don't just resolve yourself to African black soap. I really admire their dedication though. They are using what is available to them and making something very useful.

Real African black soap has particles that scratch my skin, so I switched to the fake, smooth stuff. The real soap also stains my washcloths really bad.
@TheChibisaurus
@TheChibisaurus 7 лет назад
I've used both. the smooth stuff, depending on the company, will work moderately. but once I got the real back soap, my dark spots faded dramatically. I still use my strongly scented body wash, for the scent, but the black soap is used for the actual cleansing of my skin. my black soap feels like pudding btw.

This is my opinion but I hope I'll be able to help. Dudu Osun is authentic African Black soap but it is just molded into a presentable shape obviously for commercial purposes compared to the ones bought from the villages (like the ones in the video). If you check Dudu Osun, it breaks as easily and dissolves quickly like the one in the video. Another thing I will like to add is most black soaps are stripping because they do a really job at cleaning your body and your hair. In saying that, I noticed recent batches of Dudu Osun are not as stripping as the batches I used when growing up (it cleans well but I'm not paper dry after I shower). I personally dissolve and add a some oil into my liquid batch if I find them too stripping. That works for me. Also, different things work for different people but using Original African black soap completely changed my life and cleaned out my recurring acne. I hope I was able to help someone. Cheers!

I liked your video. it was very informational but I must say I have been using shea moistures African black soap and it DOES work very very well on my face, chest, shoulder, and back acne. I wanted to try both so ive been using this one for a week and the results are amazing. I did however, order real African soap online and I am waiting for it to arrive and I am super excited. if the shea moisture one isn't 100% raw like the real one but works amazingly then I can only imagine how great the OG stuff is lol. I loved your video though. very interesting especially seeing women make it (:

I've been using Shea Moisture black soap for almost a year! Before that, I only used body wash to shower. I didn't notice any benefits, but I like the smell and thought I was doing something good for my skin so I put up with black all over the tub and considered buying black washcloths (I only buy white washcloths) I was in the beauty supply store yesterday and noticed a display of black soap that looked like the ones you showed as the real thing. I wondered why it looked so different and got confused. Now I know better... thank you for the information!

If black soap has such a high oil content why does it dry out the skin?
@BigHenFor
@BigHenFor 7 лет назад
swagskippinsquirrels All soaps work by breaking down dirt and oils so that they prefer water and wash away. Human skin and hair functions better with soaps that aren't too alkaline and that have plenty of conditioning agents like oils that haven't been converted into soap in the manufacturing process. So, the most gentle soap is superfatted, i.e. has a high level of fats like oils. Making soap at home is a hobby lots of people are into, and there are plenty of resources online that discuss the science. This video is correct in that native African soaps are made in a way that retains a large amount of unprocessed oils in them, and so are gentle on the skin.

Even though shea Moisture black soap is fake, and all these comments say negative things about it, I've used it for over a year now (mainly because it's cheap and I can find it in any store) and I used to have terrible acne, but since I started using it my face is always clear and smooth.
