The documentary was filmed over a period of 3 months at Albert Park, Melbourne. Taking his first steps into the world of nature documentary, Linus Koh was determined to document the family life of these magnificent creatures, found only in the Oceania region.

I hope these birds figure out a way to get out of those tags and live free. CLEARLY that wrangling method freaked the entire family out! And really, you could place your "research tags" anywhere else but their necks?? As soon as they were released you could tell they were like, "This is the part we were telling you kids about. The humans observe us & give us our freedom at a cost." Freedom isn't ever really free is it? All in the name of "research". Smh...

achanwahn - Not the so-called conservationists that are doing this for their own purposes not for the good of the swans - leg rings would be sufficient otherwise.

I know the scientists are trying to help the swans and all, but those horrible neck rings are in no way justifiable. Stick to normal ones on the legs for god's sake! Also, I felt really sorry for the whole family when the dad and the cygnets were captured, bound, and tested like that...That must have been traumatizing...
@achanwahn
@achanwahn 6 лет назад
Roku daime They don't hurt, they don't impede the flight, & they rarely use them. The only possible downside I could foresee is they get caught, but based on the terrain they typically traverse, that seems like an extremely low probability, so I'm going to assume these scientists actually know what they're doing. &, like most, if it becomes a cause for concern, I trust they'll do what they always do & find another solution.

I wondering why they place a tag, are they for sale? but it looks so tight, i feel sorry for the animals and how they are abused
@achanwahn
@achanwahn 6 лет назад
Luz Perla These are wild & were not for sale. They're tagged by scientists for conservation and documentation. They've done this for decades. It looks intense, but they're professionals who are trained how to wrangle and tag the birds. The birds here were unharmed & set free shortly after the adult was measured, documented and tagged - a relatively quick process.
@supportingcreators3866
@supportingcreators3866 4 года назад
@@achanwahn Unobtrusive leg bands should be completely sufficient for any monitoring. It clearly has been sufficient here in the UK where if a swan is tagged, it would be by using a leg band only.

I am happy that somebody give up their time to take care of the black swan family. Its amazing to see how fast the baby grow. BTW, my 1st encounter with Bkack Swan Family was many yeaes ago on Lake Guthridge in a small town south of Australia. Its in Victoria, a small town call Sale, and I was on a home stay in Aussie for 3 months. ZJan and February is light winter in there. But I was so amaze that they have Black Swan in yhe south part of the continent

Why are they taged both on feet and neck? It's ridiculous! The neck rings are cruel, way to long and interfere with their feathers. Scientists are sadist. Stick to the leg bands. Yes it's harder to see the #'s but it's more comfortable for the bird. Use binoculars to read the foot tags, leave their necks alone

Stupid scientists freak me out after they catch the babies and the dad and then test them . The dad knows that they plan to do something with them. I know that scientists duty is to make sure they are health, but still they shouldn't do that.

The band around their necks are so ugly and seem uncomfortable. I understand tagging them but it seems it should be less conspicuous, large and constraint. Sad that we limit them with our requirements. I’m sure it’s meant to be harmless but seems unnatural for them.
