I finally found these bought a big group and ended up with 2 females and spawned them 2 weeks ago. Fry are extremely small, breeding is so cool to watch. currently raining around 30 fry keeping my fingers crossed...

I like learning about the various kinds of darios. They are awesome little nano fish. 👍💕👍

Indeed! I have yet to meet one that does not fascinate me...neat little group of fish.

These guys are very cool little fish. Love their suspended stance like most cichlids. Great video and great species profile, Dan.

Thanks, Bob. They remind me of a cross between a cichlid and a gourami. I like their bold cichlid stance juxtaposed with their nano size.

I'm from Myanmar, I literally threw in 10 into my planted pond and they're multiplying like crazy. Also for sexing them, the females got slightly stubbier and fatter bodies, and the males got a bright bluish dorsal fin looking from the top.

Thanks for the sexing tips!!!

Where did you buy them? Which shop in which city specifically?
@MyanmarWildWaters
@MyanmarWildWaters 2 года назад
@@aungkyawzin1240 I got them from a shop in North Okkalapa back in 2018 (The shop owner closed his store not long after and only does flowerhorns now). No one else has been able to breed them in large quantities here and a lot of not all of these fish you find in people's tanks are descended from those original ten that I got.

When you said micro you weren’t kidding. You can really tell how small they are when one of those Cory swim by. These are my fav videos, when you talk about a species. You didn’t really get into how they breed, laying eggs and caring for babies? Maybe using those tubes?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
I spent so much time trying to tackle sexing the fish that I ran out of time to discuss breeding, etc. They embrace like bettas, but don't care for the eggs/fry...so basically, they are an egg scatterer that spawns via an embrace. They tend to spawn in plants and against leaves/decor more than in caves from what I've seen. Here's a vid showing some spawing action: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u2VV-VmInFo.html Tiny eggs. Tiny fry. I've never tried to raise a batch of fry.

They are thought to share a common ancestor if you go back far enough. Dario/Badis, nandids, anabantoids, and channa all seem to stem from the same source in evolutionary terms, so the resemblance makes a lot of sense.

Are exclamation point rasbora easy to keep? They have a beautiful colour too. I'm looking for a small species of nano fish at the moment, but i'm quite new to fish keeping.
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
IME, exclamation points are easy to keep once they have recovered from import, which these have. Fresh imports are skinny and shaky and it takes a few weeks to get them strong and healthy.

Yes...as far as I know they have the typical dario/anibantoid embrace.

whats the best size tank and how many in that tank
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
The limiting factor in stalking numbers is more due to aggression than to fish size since they are so small. It very much depends on how densely planted the aquarium is. I can easily keep 100 or more in a 75 gallon aquarium if it has enough cover. In my tank, a little over half the bottom of the aquarium (actually, now that I look closely at it, closer to 2/3 of the tank) is chocked with java moss growing thickly over lots of little pvc pipe pieces. Males can be very aggressive to each other and this type of dense plant growth seems to be necessary to keep any number together. With dense plant growth (and the pvc), everyone gets along great. Without it, I could probably only keep 6 or so in a 75 gallon aquarium long term. I've seen a group of 100 Dario dario (similar temperament) in a 30 gallon breeder reduced to a single dominant male in a matter of a few weeks because the tank lacked sufficient cover and that single male hammered all the other fish. It is all about sufficient plant cover IME.

I have four fishes in aber 80 Liter aquarium. But i am very afaid of the fishes. I have two dominant fishes, one female and the other one is i think a non dominat male. The two dominant males are killing each other and both of Thema are killing the non dominant male. Should i separat them? Oh and sorry for my Bad english.
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Hello Julia, Your English is just fine...no worries. I keep them in large tanks in large groups that help spread the aggression AND I have LOTS of plants and pvc caves for everyone to hide in and claim their own territory. In a situation where there are only a few fish, the aggression gets concentrated. I would recommend separating them, especially if they are in a small tank. You can also try adding LOTS of plants, decorations, spawning mops, and/or caves...literately fill 2/3 of the aquarium with plants, etc. so thickly that you can't see through that section of the aquarium. This might create enough line-of-sight blocks and territory niches that everyone settles down.

I am looking to put a few different types of nano fish in a 100 gallon instead of doing a few fish of larger size. Will these kill shrimp?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
These will hunt baby shrimp for sure. Adult shrimp will probably be okay with them as long as they have enough hiding places during molt. That being said, I've never tried them with shrimp, so I am just guessing.
@NoapteaMintii
@NoapteaMintii 11 месяцев назад
They will eat only babies and ignore adults.

Hi there. Are their feeding habits like the ones you mentioned before, I mean rather difficult for people new to the hobby or those that never kept similar species? Thanks :)
@marciomoura1960
@marciomoura1960 5 лет назад
Yup, you covered the feeding part (lol). What about water parameters? Sorry there, but aren't questions a major one in this hobby? ;) Thanks once more. Cheers
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Hello Marcio, I would describe them as specialist feeders, not as difficult feeders. LIve/frozen are required but, if that is done and they are not kept with species that are super quick to the food, they have proven hardy and easy to keep IME.
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
The only water parameters I concern myself with for this species are temperature and chemical cleanliness (ammonia and nitrite). Temps can be from 60 F to 77 F or so. Ammonia and nitrite should be at zero, but I feel like having clean water is pretty much common knowledge. As far a pH and most other commonly measured parameters go, I don't feel they are very important. In fact, I feel that folks generally do more damage trying to adjust their water to exact pH parameters (and often hardness as well). Folks always want to know pH, but I find it to be a fairly meaningless parameter in aquariums for MOST fish. With this species, as with almost all others, avoid extremes and the fish should be fine.

Can you upload a video on what the eggs look like? And how do you know when it's time to take the dad out?
@DansFish
@DansFish 5 лет назад
Hello Alejandro. I don't have such a video, but my friends at Scarlet Aquatics made a video of their Dario dario spawning and the video shows the eggs being released. Their breeding behavior and eggs are the same as for the Black Tiger Dario, so the vid might be helpful. Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iu2ifKwy9TI.html

If there is any striping on the fish at all even just a tiny bit it’s a male,.. females Have no striping at all, at least in the scarlet badis and females are basically smaller.
