Great job! All good look'en slabs you got Chuck and Deb. That sure would be a great video of all the guys there. I try to watch all you the guys channels..
Thank you very much. That burl is one we hope we get to see. Time will tell. Glad you liked the video. Hope we can get some time to see that big mill run
I love live edge slabs, especially walnut. As I walk through my woods I always look for trees that would make interesting slabs. We often spend time with some amish to see what they make with them. Thanks for sharing. Harry P
You guys have some amazing slabs no two are ever the same. Are these your logs or milling them for someone else? Impressed by the new sawmill, be nice to see it in action The only thing missing by the stream was you and Deb a couple of lawn chairs and a picnic lunch, very restful and relaxing. Always enjoy seeing the dually, it’s a unique looking truck, never thought Scheib would part with it. Cheers my friends
Thank you so much. You're right we must do the lawn chairs so we can do it differently instead of standing up. Yes this is our log, this was some beautiful slabs indeed. Take care Gerry
Thank you Gerry. These logs are ours. We have a bunch more walnut to slab, and to saw into lumber. We are trying our best to get some time at the mill, and watch how it runs. They are very nice folks, so I believe they would allow it. It's always nice to watch the stream. You are right. It is very relaxing. The dually is great, and has kept us hauling heavy since we bought it. The ford will be back soon, so the dually can have a break. There are many times we need both on a log hauling job. It will sure save us travel time. I'm glad he parted with it. We will be sure to take great care of it.
Interested to see if that waiting to sticker time works out! I would think if you could do it with any log it would be black walnut. I'm a little behind on watching and saw that you have a new video getting ready to come out, looking forward to it.
Hello and welcome to the mill. We are always amazed when we get a look inside a log, at what nature has made. Thank you for commenting, watching, and hopefully subscribing as well. We look forward to seeing you in the comme ts again soon
From what we have been told, there won't be any lose of darkness. It should remain through the planning and sanding, and POP even more when finished. We shall see.
I was starting to wonder if she was catching up with my eyesight. Then I realized I was watching in 240p. Downside to rural living is crummy internet. Upped it to 720p and the wood looked so much better! Too bad I have to let it buffer for 5 minutes to watch every 1 minute of video at decent resolution. Still, I’ll take that over city life!
@@debfromthemill6945 I keep hoping for Starlink to be available. Guess I should’ve paid the $100 deposit 18 months ago. My neighbor who did just got theirs. But my area won’t be open for new orders for a while yet apparently.
Slow internet is a pain to say the least. We are lucky. We are in the country, but still ha e excellent internet. Star Link would be worth it. I hope it happens soon.
I love that black walnut! Other than slabs for table/bar tops, is it not used in furniture making or am I not looking in the right places? Aww, you're daughter is so shy, but, she shouldn't be, she's a beautiful young lady. Thanks for the video 😊
Howdy @grandma j . Walnut is used in higher end, custom furniture in most cases. Slabs are used and loved by a much larger group. It looks amazing used either way. She is like mom. Just a bit shy with the camera rolling. Without the camera, she chats up a storm. Thank you for watching, and your comment. Always love hearing from you.
Hi guys, it’s amazing that from an unassuming tree truck such lovely slabs comes out. What’s the most uncommon wood have cut? Where do you get your logs from?
Hello Adrian. We always love ope ing the logs to see what they hold. We are always surprised. We have only milled 1 American Chestnut. It wasn't large, and like all of them, it fell to the blight. A very prized wood. After that, it would probably be Box Elder that was loaded with red flame coloring.
Hi. Great vid' I know nothing about sawmills.hear in Oxfordshire, UK but looking at the slabs when wet they all have small ridges on the surface. Are these marks from the saw blade?
Thank you very much. That's a great question. Yes, the ridges are from the blade. Appears to be a tooth out of set on the bandsaw blade. Fairly common, and will be removed during the flattening process, if so desired. Thank you again, and we hope to see you in the comments more often
What do you do with the slabs?I see you loading them and unloading them, looking at them. You dont even cut the slabs yourselves ,some one else cuts them am i right/
The water shot was very relaxing. Nice mill! I have an Alaskan mill that I have not used yet. Going to RU-vid University first. I got some great big black walnut that I don't want to turn into firewood.
