Overall, I still think this is an underrated MCU. It's not Endgame level but still really good. The biggest problem is that it should've been released about 5 years earlier 🤷♂️
@reactswithjax The previous head of the MCU was very, very opposed to giving BW her own movie. Instead he altered Winter Soldier to include Natasha hoping that would satisfy demand. While I totally love Natasha in that movie, originally Sharon Carter was the one working with Steve, which would have explained their romance better in Civil War.
46:55 she broke her nose that “severed” the nerve to smell. After she beat him she set her nose basically fixing the nerve. 48:59 did you catch the dogs name? She named the dog Fanny which was one of Natasha’s aliases that her friend created for her. 50:33 and this post credit scene leads you into “Hawkeye” tv series.
OK Jax, so I know you had no control over this but it was impeccable timing! Just after the scene where Alexei gets his Red Guardian suit back and Melina says "I never washed it once" and your reaction was "EW! Why?", the RU-vid commercials kicked in - one for Tide, the washing detergent, and the second was for Old Spice, to make a man smell fresh and clean. Don't tell me that AI isn't everywhere! LOL!!
Florence Pugh stole this movie, she is probably the biggest redemption to black widows only solo, which I'll be honest about, it wasn't the best of the MCU, but definitely not the worst.
There is a Hawkeye miniseries, and I am EAGERLY awaiting you watching that for more of Yelena being Yelena. Florence Pugh and the writers have made her an iconic character and she is worthy of her beloved status.
So this villain was foreshadowed in the first Avengers movie. When Natasha is talking to Loki while in his cage, he says "Drakov's daughter" when going down the list of things she's done. No one knew what it meant at the time.
Girl you gotta watch Hawkeye. Like right now. Kill your plans, boot up Disney+, kick off the shoes, pull out the robe, get recording. It is so good. Direct sequel to this and its as good as Loki in my opinion.
The “poser” bit started as an on set joke about Florence Pugh teasing Scarlett Johansson about how unrealistic that fighting stance was. The Director thought it was so funny they had the whole bit written into the script.
From what I understand, the Widows were given a variant of the super soldier serum that enhances their abilities. They're not super strong but they're quick, agile and can take a beating. Definitely check out "Hawkeye" next.
A feral cat adopted me and just had 5 kittens on my back patio. All of them are black so I’m naming the bigger female Natasha and the runt is Yelana I’ve started my own widow army and I should have complete control of the world by mid September 🤣🙌🏼🐈⬛
@@zamhobby9662 I think I’m just their servant 🤷🏻♂️ I bring them lots of Fancy Feast twice a day and I set out some empty cardboard boxes for them to do cat stuff and they barely acknowledge me 🤣 The momma is a beautiful Russian Blue. She looks just like an Egyptian drawing of a cat so I named her Cleopatra. Cleo for short. One of the kittens has the weirdest white line above its eye. It is so thin I thought it was cobweb the first time I noticed it. But yeah I named that one Harry Catter obviously 🤣🤦🏻♂️ oh and one of the tiny ones has what looks like the beginning of a tuxedo on its chest. Like a quarter sized white triangle. So I named that one Tuxatony. So only one of them remains unnamed at this point 🤣🤦🏻♂️… I have no life and it shows 🤣🤦🏻♂️
The actor playing Taskmaster/ Antonia (Olga Kurlyenko) also co-starred in Oblivion with Tom Cruise. You can see her without scars and how good she is at acting. Florence Pugh (Yelena) created such a great character. I know you will like her return.
A little info on Dreykov's assassin. Character's name in the comics is Taskmaster, is a male character in the comics & has the ability to mimic or duplicate any move or skill that his opponent possesses. This ability is limited, however, in that he can't duplicate powers or abilities that fall outside the norm. For example, he can't lift Thor's hammer or call down lightning, nor can he 'Hulk-out' or crawl up & down walls like Spiderman. He can match Captain America's fighting style, but not his strength. He can also match Hawkeye's archery skills, and there's another Marvel character named Swordsman whose skill with a sword he can also duplicate. Magical abilities are outside of his range, as well as any supernatural or mutant abilities, which means that he might be able to match Wolverine's fighting style, but not his quick-healing ability or those fantastic adamantium claws.
@@passionsquietrage In the comics, he's been described as a human mutate who acquired his 'photographic reflexes' abilities through the use of a modified version of the adrenal steroid cortisol. This differentiates him from a mutant, whose abilities are tied to the X-Gene in their genetic makeup.
@@reactswithjax I love that song about the deaths of those musicians. Black Widow is actually a really good movie just not really a Black Widow movie after she died in Avengers Endgame 😔. It was a much better than I expected but not as good as I wanted it to be when I saw it last year. Awesome reaction from Jax 👏❤️. This has nothing to do with the video but please listen if you want to otherwise leave it alone and ignore it. Hello my name is Justin and I'm a Christian and Apologist but I'm also a college graduate. I'm not a closed minded Theist as I have nothing against Atheists or unbelievers as I speak to them often to understand their reasons for unbelief but we as Christians are convinced of God's Existence due to many real factors). I'm not trying to convert anyone or convince anyone to become Christians as that's The Holy Spirit's job to help people believe but only explain why I believe in Jesus Christ. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't. I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict. Just before anyone says Christianity is a white man's religion made to oppress blacks during slavery you obviously aren't aware that the first Christians were Jews in The Middle East and that Christianity just like any religion can be used by evil and corrupt people to oppress others but you forget that the first Abolitionists/Civil Rights activists were Christians who sought to abolish slavery, racism, segregation, injustice and prejudice throughout American history. Jesus The Christ loves you enough not to give you what we all deserve which is God's Wrath by His Own Blood. Charles Darwin didn't originally come up with The Theory of Evolution over 200 years ago as it is mentioned in the writings of Ancient Greeks who believed in Demons that gave knowledge to philosophers. Evolution makes no sense when nothing has evolved after thousands of years of human history and supposedly the first creature came from primordial sludge several millions of years ago funny how they won't believe that God an Eternal Almighty Spirit Being created us from the Earth) which came from a supermassive expansion of matter at high temperature that inexplicably created everything in the known universe that supposedly came from nothing billions of years ago. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? I've studied evolution and abiogenesis in the past and read Darwin's " Origin of The Species" and I'm not convinced of macro Evolutionary biology whereas I accept micro Evolution like speciation and adaptation but not macro Evolution because there's no evidence of it nor clear observable examples of it where living creatures evolve into other kinds of species plus the fact that fossils don't show evidence of evolution and genetic entropy rules out evolution. The question begs how did two genders evolve from a common ancestor with a perfectly hospitable and sustainable environment with breathable oxygen and resources to survive on inexplicably? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. I don't mean this is any condescending manner but if you'd like to discuss The Scriptures with me or have me listen to your view on anything my instagram account is Savage Christian Kombatant
Jax, your reaction to this movie was so much fun! There is indeed a lot going on in the post-credits scene, so of course you had to cope with a lot of emotions watching it. It's simply heartbreaking to witness the finality of Natasha's gravestone, but so touching as well to see all the love for her. A bit of background on Taskmaster: The character was quite different in the comics. There, Taskmaster was a man, and naturally possessed an ability to perfectly copy the physical and combat abilities of anyone he saw, whether in person or through video footage. He couldn't copy superhuman powers or strength, but any fighting techniques he could make his own. Here, Antonia has that ability -- when she's introduced, we can see her watching numerous video screens with footage of the Avengers fighting, and throughout the movie she employs the fighting style of Black Widow, Captain America, the Black Panther and even Spider-Man. I'm not sure whether the copying power is hers inherently, or whether Dreykov enhanced her artificially. And yes, in the source material, the Red Guardian was meant as a Soviet counterpart to Captain America, and they met and fought on occasion. The relationship between Alexei, Natasha and Yelena is very different there, however.
Personally, I was really impressed by Alexi's growth in this movie. Think about it. At the beginning, he was fully immersed in the mission. After the jailbreak, he was self-absorbed and an ass. After reuniting with Melina, he tries (badly) to go into Dad mode, botching his dadologues and missing opportunities to heal. But finally, at the end, he becomes self-aware enough to realize that sometimes keeping your big mouth shut is the move.
Taskmaster’s power in the comics is the ability to see someone’s fighting style (which is why (s)he was watching old footage of the Avengers fighting) and perfectly mimic it. That is the reason you recognized Captain America’s fighting style on the bridge earlier in the movie. Taskmaster here is seen mimicking a bunch of different Avengers’ fighting styles. Remember the explosive arrow shot underneath their SUV?
@@reactswithjax Yeah, it was kind of a throw away line... very easy to miss. They referred to it as "Activating the Task Master protocol" or something similar and then showed her watching the Avengers videos to learn their moves. That was also how she mirrored Natasha's moves when they first fought.
Fun fact, in the comics Yelena and Natasha are enemies, but Scarlett Johansson wanted to make another relationship between them, and it certainly turned out MUCH BETTER
I enjoy watching MCU content with you. I appreciate your thoughtfulness to the characters and messages being told. U’re a lovely person 🙌🏾 ⚡️PS. This is one of my favorites. I loved the Black Widow solo film so much!
Hello Miss Jax!😊 Looking very Black Widowish today!🖤 I went to get some snacks especially for this reaction.🥤🍫 David Harbour originally grew his beard to wear on "Stranger Things" but changed his mind and decided to use it for this film. Young Natascha with the blue hair is Ever Anderson (Milla Jovovich's daughter). Violet McGraw (Young Yelena) would star in the breakout hit "M3GAN" (2022) just a year after this. Great reactions to this very well made film, Jax!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Director Cate Shortland found inspiration in popular action and espionage movies like The Bourne series, Mission: Impossible, The Manchurian Candidate, and James Bond. I was 11 in 1995. I also loved that Natasha was watching Moonraker(1979) in this movie.
I wondered about the Moonraker scene inclusion in this movie. Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, but that movie has a killer/assassin(Jaws) working for the villain, who in the end realizes he's being taken advantage of, finds romance, switches sides, and teams up with good guy Bond. Is it meant as something of a parallel with Natasha's life, or am I reading too much into it?
Exactly, the hair color, the vest, holding her breath, it's satisfying knowing she gets it, like showing your friend a movie and not having the explain everything but rather talk about the implications of the movie on the larger MCU timeline.
My guess is this story takes place right around the same time as Black Panther. The post Credit Scene us why you watch these movies in release order the first time.
Hey Jax, lovely reaction as always. Just wondering if Falcon and the winter soldier and Loki will come to RU-vid at some point or are they Patreon exclusives?
The Contessa Valentina Allegro De La Fontaine has connections to S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as being married to Everett Ross former C.I.A. operative, former Deputy Task Force Commander of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre. Last seen in Black Panther. Played by actor Martin Freeman who also played Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit trilogy. 😅
Before I forget, you've gotta love the dogs name being Fanny... Fanny Longbottom. Apparently at some point Yelena must have found out the alias Natasha was operating under and found it amusing enough to remember fondly.
This is the first time that I have reacted to you. With your hair up like that you remind me of actress Erin Gray. She was in Buck Rogers from the 25th Century.
I’m sure others will point this out, but when Loki was tormenting Natasha about the terrible things she’d done, the one that affected her most was ‘Drakov’s daughter’. That’s why the redemption is so meaningful. Also, Loki said “your ledger must be dripping red” as an insult. Then her ‘father’ uses it as a compliment.
@@AlexandruCarjan Sure. It’s her interrogation tactic, letting them torture or torment her. She lets them think they are getting to her. But she is in control. But that doesn’t mean she feels nothing when it’s happening. Like a good actor using real painful experiences to give a believable performance.
I liked the movie so much, as well. I was already in tears when the intro music played (after both girls were taken in). And it had so much emotions, Natashas back story and Yelena! Oh man...people already told you but I want to stress it again: You need to watch Hawkeye asap. :D (At the end, when Yelena whistled, I really thought that Natasha would answer but there was nothing...that destroyed me)
Also, while I found nothing really wrong with this movie, the timing of its release was wrong. This should've been released prior to Infinity War as it would have had more impact in Endgame.
Hi jax you have to watch spider man 1,2,3 and The amezing spider man 1,2 before watching spider no way home it's very important watch these movies before spider man no way home I am not gonna tell you why but just you have to watch please trust me🙏🙏🙏. Even if you have seen those movies when they released please do a re-watch
Hey Jax. Just to give you a mental timeline of this flick....The appetizer (intro flashback) takes place in 1995, the main course (bulk of the film) takes place right after after "Captain America: Civil War", and the dessert (post credit scene) takes place after "Avengers: Endgame." Hope you enjoyed watching this one.
18:06 They are in Budapest. He probably doesn't even speak English. Why would he understand what they are talking about? 25:53 In the comics he and Melina are different. Alexi is the first Red Guardian, a villain turned hero and is actually Natasha's HUSBAND and not her father like the movies, when both were agents for the Soviet Union. Melina was known as the Iron Maiden and had a strong hate for Natasha and hated living in her shadow. -Taskmaster was a guy in the comics and not a Soviet. -In the comics, Natasha changes her name from Natalia Romanova to Natasha Romanoff, the Western equivalent when she defects to S.H.E.I.L.D.
FWIW--in the comics, Natasha is "enhanced" with a form of the 'Infinity Formula' which slows her aging and gives her better strength, speed, reflexes, and durability. Because this film never had to worry about her dying, it's one kind of weakness is that the stunts are outrageously over the top. I didn't mind them, but a lot of people picked at how unrealistic it would be for Natasha to survive 3/4 of this film lol. So in my mind, the Red Room enhanced the Widows but not to the point of being Super Soldiers, which is a pretty easy way to close that kinda-sorta plot hole.
So glad that you didn't edit out your "flub" when you said "this is how it was in the beginning"!!! I think that is so adorable and real!! Thanks for the reaction!!!

If you want another great movie starring Florence Pugh you've gotta watch Fighting With My Family. It's the story of how WWE diva became Paige. Fun fact it was directed by Stephen Merchant who you just saw as Calaban in Logan.
I just realized you haven’t seen any of the Netflix Marvel shows have you? - Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Punisher…. Are you planning on seeing those? Many of those characters are being worked into the MCU cannon (Hawkeye series)
Hawkeye is your next Marvel series. As others have said, you really should watch the Daredevil series first for some character background, but I don't feel like it is wholly necessary in this particular instance.
Always felt Nat never got her just do., while an silver spoon, egotistical, narcissist like Tony got a big send-off. Understanding Nat's background is depth it would have been nice to know before the actions of endgame.
Besides no way home which is amazing, every marvel movie after endgame forces left wing ideology and makes ever male weak or stupid or both and every woman smart and tougher than every man. And they wonder why the box office has been atrocious. Jax yes the skydiving scene was ridiculous. This is marvel now, just stupid scene after stupid scene
Sorry but despite the talents of Johansson and especially Pugh, this movie’s story and writing was boring and a wasted opportunity. I wish we’d gotten to see the better version of Black Widow in her avengers opening scene.
Okay, Sweetie, now you REALLY need to watch the Hawkeye series. Seriously!! It's highly under-rated and I promise you will love it! It's right in your wheelhouse for humor and adventure. I fell in love with David Harbour as an actor in The Newsroom. He has an incredible sense of timing. Bring a comic collector since 1960, the Red Guardian was one of my favorite villains, and I pretty much have everything in which he's appeared. He really brought the character to life. Once again, a most entertaining reaction. Much love to you and Lamby, best co-star on RU-vid!
Besides no way home. Marvel is over after endgame. Next thing will be every character announcing their pronouns when you meet them. The left has polluted marvel
It was very entertaining to watch your reaction. Also the way you try to think about any realism in this movie is very fun. To me this is one of those movies where you just have to switch your brain off and enjoy the ride.
Haven’t finished the reaction yet so not sure if you figured it out on your own but there’s no super soldiers involved in this movie (outside of Alexei). You kept saying they’re merging super soldiers/winter soldiers with black widows. Everyone involved are just widows. Task Master was also trained/groomed as a black widow but with the addition of having her constantly study, train in, and mimick the fighting styles of various marvel heroes and villains (after re-engineering her brain). Pretty sure they even upload files on whoever her next target is into her brain/programming. Either way, outside of all that, she’s not a super soldier just mind controlled/re-programmed like the other widows.
FYI: some helicopters do have an autopilot function. It’s call “autohover” and the pilot can set it so that they can release the controls and loosen their muscles or stretch without the copter spinning out of control.
Val is Preparing Her Own Team (Kind of Dark Avengers to say) in the place of Captain America She now Has US Agent and In the Place of Black Widow she will have Yelena
How long someone can fight depends on what style of fighting, training and conditioning. For example, the battle of Towton in 1461 lasted for 10 hours, with light clothing and using swords (think musketeers. The Battle at Cannae, on the other hand, lasted two days and soldiers were equipped with bronze helms, heavy thrusting spears, long javelins, and body armor (usually a heavy leather). As for the movie, many were hoping that when the movie was announced, that it would be an origin story for Natasha. Like you, many fans of Natasha were hoping to see what made Natasha the top tier Widow that she has become. Antonia is played by Olga Kurylenko, who is a fantastic actor! She has a lot of pretty good movies and TV shows, including one with fellow Marvel actor Charlie Cox (Daredevil). Check out her movie Momentum! You and Lambie did a great job with this movie, although, do we need to worry that you outed a super secret assassin on YT?
Stranger Things Season 4 release date May 27, 2022. Black Widow original release date: May of 2020 delayed because of Covid. Actual release date: July 8, 2021. 😊
Scary assassin girl huh. Interesting pick up. Impressive that you'd peg Taskmaster as female on a "first time" viewing before the reveal that in the MCU it's Antonia Dreykov
So the only reason someone would assume that a brilliant fighter is a woman is if they've already seen the movie? I assumed she was a woman because this is a female led movie and all the fighters were women.
I really liked this movie. It had all I wished for. And "the most disfunctional family ever seen in a movie" , was a nice bonus. 😅😂 Just loved them. Greetings from Sweden. 💙💛💙💛
I Love Yelena so much. I feel kinda bad that I wanted a Black Widow movie for so long, and then Yelena stole the show a bit from Scarlett. I really wish they would have done a trilogy for Black Widow, like many of the other heroes, and kinda pass the reins onto Yelena in the final one.
Taskmaster in the comics is a man that has the ability to copy any moves he sees, wich is why in the comic "Deadpool kills the marvel universe" he is the person that lasts the longest against deadpool. 😁
Great movie and reaction! Luv how you blew lambys cover.🐑 Ugh! I luv Natasha's back story and that ending was really touching. You really got the feels with that post credit scene! Where was support lamby? Was he mad because you blew his cover? Haha lol. Thanks for sharing Jax!
About when it came out. Obvs by the end you see it is more a lead in to Hawkeye so it needed to land here. Else there is a lot of static about this one. I think this usually is done in metric though. So basically the is Endgame and maybe No Way Home and everything after is placed on a scale under them which I think is a bad approach. After all anything before was not placed on that scale, right? No, people do actually place them on that scale which makes even less sense. I say it is a solid action movie in spite of all negative criticism but I don't expect it to be a scifi opera laser beam from arms sort of thing nor live up to it. It's also a solid spy craft action specifically like any good Bond movie and I suppose one needs to have, which I do so I'm biased, an appreciation for that type of genre in order to appreciate it here. Off the top of my head I place it around The Girl in the Spider's Web for the aesthetic and action. Higher for character arc, blending and relatability and way more for charm.
Here are interesting details about the Black widow movie. The MCU is different from Marvel comic books. For example Red guardian in the comic books dated Natasha instead of him being a father figure like in the MCU. Instead of Antonia as taskmaster who is enhanced with her armor and the algorithm similar to Iron Man Friday AI who can analyze fight patterns. Taskmaster was a male who had the ability to mimic fighting abilities of anyone he witnessed. This movie showed why Natasha sacrifice herself while also setting up the next Black widow Yelena belova. As for the other black widows they are still around in fact one is in shang-chi and the legend of the ten rings fighting in extremis soldier from Iron Man 3. Mamma Melina goes by the name Iron maiden who is a villain in the coming months and I believe a secret villain of this movie. I think melina killed Natasha's real mother also she said she's been through the Black widow program multiple times. The widow program goes back to the 30s with different names throughout the years like Leviathan so her saying she's been through the program multiple times mean she's also been through it before Dreylov was place the head of the widow program so she would have seniority or at least some influence over Dreylov.
I think it might be on her Patreon page. She has some things on there that are not edited for RU-vid. You need your own copy of the show and watch it on one screen while playing her reactions on another screen.
