I always rolled my eyes when women said their vaginas smelled like nothing. Every part of your body has a scent. Also, 2-3 showers a day sounds excessive. One shower a day should suffice. 3 showers and above is just excessive and highly unlikely.
I bath twice but iam not using all those products and I don't douch just I like to feel refreshed and clean I cant sleep well without bathing I think bathing 3 times is excessive not 2
So you dont go to work in the morning or you work at home? Because that's nasty rooming around all day without touching water🤣 I can't imagine especially if you own a vigina. No offense though
@@jaheim9541 nothing abt that is nasty showering in the morning isnt really needed it is at the end of the day cause u sweat and everything all day so morning showers arent really needed but are still god to have
@@samlay.x 2 showers a day is reasonable. Shower in the morning and when you come home shower at night. Depending on the persons schedule some shower the night before and then shower at night.
@@moonlightbae_ exactly unless you did sport that day or you a person that sweats a lot 1 shower a day is enough otherwise it will just damage your skin
This is just a general statement I want to make. If you feel like you should over-clean yourself to the point where you lose your natural oils, you should go to the doctor instead and get a professional opinion.
@@okaytsonei depends on the bodywash, if it's cheap it would probably strip, but if you use a good bodywash it wont strip it, but showering 3 days with any body wash will damage skin
@@smellprophet6606 Yeah I use a soap free cleansing bar like the Dove beauty bar and they're cleansing yet not overly stripping. They do the job, but they're gentle.
Right… I was on the side of youtube and tiktok where girls would have every single product ever released by tree hut. They swore by these to exfoliate and be “extra clean.” Racks on racks of different brands of expensive soaps, facial products, or vaginal steams all for the sake of cleanliness. One hint of a musty or sweaty smell after a long day and your deemed filthy. Now they’re doin the same thing with pills for vaginal health. WHEN WILL WE ESCAPE THIS MENTALITY? 😫
Ok but I love tree hut cuz it smells pretty lol 😂I felt read a bit. But the rest is a valid point. I just got into fragrances cuz I like them but the race to never smell…human isn’t my goal. I just like the stuff 😭
They be gulpin doin all these different supplements that supposedly make you taste like water and overall promote good function. Taking them isn’t inherently bad, but taking handfuls just for the sake of having a healthy vagina is OD. It was made to clean and function by itself 😭
I remember being a little girl (I’m mixed and was always pretty light) and I spent the whole summer outside in Florida and got DARK! I went into the tub and was taking forever. My mom (Puerto Rican) came into the bathroom and was like what is taking so long and I was like “I have to get the dirt off” and she was like “no baby you black.” 😂😂😂 she was like “ain’t nothing wrong with you.” 🥹
Black people really lie online about the stupidest things. How many times they shower, washing food, how well they season food, products that they use and it’s so annoying. I really just sit back and wonder if it’s mental illness sometimes.
@@iamBriii no people lie about how well they season food like I stated originally because some people over season and overcook the hell out of everything and won’t even admit it. Once I took a culinary class and I started traveling. I realize that a lot of the stuff that people do as far as cooking just isn’t as good as they think. But then again everyone’s palat is different.
@@mielissa100ify yes, everyone’s palate is different. Therefore your definition of “well seasoned” may be different from mine based on our backgrounds and personal preferences. Since I am African American myself and come from an African American household, family, culture, etc. in my opinion, I don’t think a lot of us lie. Not as many as people think. I do think there’s some but a lot of it is really relatable. Who wants unseasoned food? Sometimes salt and pepper will do. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to add a little extra for more flavor or color (of course in moderation). I should add that I do respect your opinion though. Thanks for not being hostile about it
I saw a girl write on lipstickalley that she never touches her privates and butthole with her bare hands to clean them in the shower and that she only masturbates or changes tampons when she's fresh out of the shower. She ONLY uses a wash cloth to clean herself and never lets her bare hands touch her downstairs area in the shower. I call bs because at least when you rinse with water you gotta touch yourself down there to get all the soap out. Then she was calling people gross who touch themselves downstairs with bare hands in the shower while cleaning themselves. It's soo weird, how is it gross to do that, it's your body, you can't live your life completely avoiding touching yourself in these areas lmao. Also it's sometimes necessary for self examination. It's your body after all, just make sure you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Plus how is it gross if you wash your hands afterwards and you're literally cleaning yourself with soap and water in the first place? So so weird. Plus the tampon thing doesn't even make sense because you have to change a tampon at least every 3 to 4 hours. You can't tell me this person actually takes a shower every few hours. Then another one claimed it is gross to not change your dry off towel every day. Bruh for what? I get changing them like once or twice a week or every few days, but every day seems overkill. It honestly sounds like some sort of mental disorder with these cases, especially the first one. Being so disgusted by touching your own body (literally for the sake of cleaning yourself!) is not normal. Could be a result of some sort of trauma. Like I do enjoy some hygiene olympics for old good fun, but some people are just weird. There's a line between being clean and being enthusiastic about hygiene and actual germaphobia or OCD.
These woman that are “showering 6 times a day” or “3 times a day” must be rich because they are washing away the body creams, roll on deodorant or other things they put on 😭 and reapplying it more than twice a day
Black people in general usually have good hygiene even before the Atlantic Slave Trade. But bleach in shower water!?, using 50 different products, is madness
I usually shower once a day. However the time of day changes by season lol. In the winter I shower in the morning and get ready. I do my hair and make up, and wash my face before bed. In the summer I never do my hair and make up because its way too hot and wont last anyways. Also I am usually at the beach, so I dont tend to take a shower before the beach. So I end up showering at night after walking around in flip flops all day, sweating, being covered in bug spray, and being by the fire. I dont want that nastiness in my sheets... so I shower before bed during summer.
I have to shower in the morning to get the "sleep" off of me, or I will literally drag on throughout the day...and because of my work, I HAVE to shower before going to bed no matter how exhausted I am...
As a 23yr old young man, this was a very much so needed educational look at hygiene, especially because it was centered around the woman. Cause hearing my contemporaries talk about it is “exciting” to put a word to it lol.
I can't hate on black too much when it comes to hygiene. If we look throughout history to today, the groups of people who tend to not engage in more aggressive hygiene practices have spread sickness and disease worldwide. Europe with the Bubonic Plague that killed 50% of them. Even with COVID I knew once if hit American shores and went to "certain" areas where people were refusing masks and use of hand sanitizer got wrecked with countless infections and deaths. Some folks don't mind stinking. But 2 to 3 showers a day is ridiculous. I lived with someone who showered 2 or 3 times a week, never changed the wash cloths or towels and it was questionable whether he used soap sometimes.
The bubonic plague didn’t rly spread because of personal hygiene, it was because of the amount of traffic, population & the cities themselves were like cesspits which was great for rats & fleas. The existing sickness would’ve worsened because people with it were told not to bathe because they believed that it would contaminate the cities recourses. The biggest issue with sickness is generally environment & population. Also what are y’all doing in your boring 9-5 jobs that you stink after not showering every single day? Doesn’t exactly work up a sweat
2 to 3 showers a day is bad for your skin. You should only shower twice or more if it's absolutely necessary - like you did some heavy physical activity that made you all sweaty; or you got yourself dirty, some time after showering. And if you're sedentary at home in winter and didn't get all sweaty and smelly you can go a day without showering. Not showering often is bad hygiene. But showering too much is also bad hygiene - it's not good for your skin.
When to wash. In the morning After working out And when you come home from work/public collecting germs. Lol. 2-3 showers is definitely not bad. If you workout, sweat, collect germs throughout the day and crawl your ass into your bed afterwards plz reevaluate you reality. That shit is nasty.
The woman mentioned mental health bring part of hygiene issues but she didn't touch on neurological issues. Autistic people tend to have hygiene issues as well. Not all of them but quite a few. I've talked to so many moms of Autistic kids, especially daughters, about their lack of hygiene and periods. It's really hard to get them to bathe as it is so when they get their periods, its even worse. My Autistic daughter is 22 and it's very hard to get her to shower in general let alone while she's on her period. She doesn't wear underwear and hasn't in years but then she just free bleeds. Washing her clothes can be a NIGHTMARE, especially because she just throws them off of her and puts on clean clothes. I haven't noticed a smell and I have asked her if she has any itching or pain in her vaginal area, which thankfully, she hasn't. I get very concerned but there's really nothing I can do. I've bought her those underwear that adults wear for incontinence and they've made them like regular underwear so it won't hurt her stomach bit she won't wear them. It's extremely frustrating for me. I'm very blunt with her too. I tell her she stinks. It doesn't hurt her feelings. As a matter of fact she seems to think it's funny. It might be a control issue for her, I'm not sure. It seems like she'll do or not do something just to get under my skin. When she does shower I do praise her. She just doesn't do it enough and my GOD, when she DOES??? I have to scrub my damn bathtub down. If bleach didn't make me lightheaded I actually WOULD use it. That's how dirty it gets when she finally DOES shower. I absolutely love her but it's tough being her mom sometimes.
I take a shower every other day. I don't see an issue with this. I used to be a clean freak showering every day. It got tiring having to constantly shower, lotionize every day, and wasting washing powder. One day, I just decided that if I'm not entirely dirty, I'll just wait the next day. It works better for me and I guess I could call it a bad habit lol
@@melanieanderson8357 girl you literally just watched this video about not shaming people about their hygiene routines and the first thing you’re gonna do after watching is shame people? 🙄
This video really touched me. My mom is of an age where she has chronic issues and she grew up during a time where people douche all the time used enemas once a week. And now recognizing that that’s wrong, makes me realize there were things that could’ve been avoided if people knew.
I remembered being ridiculed in 6th grade when I told this group of kids I took one shower a day. The black girls made me feel sooooo dirty like “once a day?!?!?!” Like I thought that was normal lol. They was like twice a day or more. I was like how dirty do you get? And the whole class laughed
Have you noticed that men don't the same thing that we do when it comes to hygiene? Because they don't care about the obsession with their hygiene, but we're the one that has this weird ass obsession with it. I'm tired at this point!
Bathing twice is not excessive guys morning and before sleep is good you sleep well feeling clean and refreshed but dont douch and use many products your coochie doesn't require much its self cleaning.
People who shower twice a day usually have a odor problem or sweat easily than others so tht prolly not a lie also ion think it’s tht deep sometimes extra products can be self care
Oh man! Y’all I remember back when I was in a FB meme group, I tried to correct someone (a man) that all women have discharge. They DRUGGG me😂😂😅😅 and it was all women too. Like y’all don’t know ya own body 🤷🏾♀️
I hate when I’m with a women and theres absolutely no human scent on her. It’s just not sexy to me for you to smell like absolutely nothing. Humans are animals too. We thrive off of pheromones. Obviously be clean.. but not too dried out and filled with chemicals that u don’t even smell like you anymore. Everyone should have a naturally light musk even after u shower. A women smelling like nothing is a turn off for me.
Nah fuck that. I am too and I been living here for 10+ years and still take at least 2 SHOWERS a day. Baths to me are disgusting asf but yeah. I like waking up and cleaning and going to bed feeling clean
I understand why some black people shower way to much, more than needed. Due to us being seen dirty it’s kinda hard (racial stereotypes) I guess some try to prove that they’re not.
I honestly think they’re all just lying. They do all that for the camera but when it’s all said and done they use simple soap and water and that’s it lol.
Another thing to talk about is the Natural Hair Routine 😢. 1 person can hv 10 Products at once, the routines are too much for me, they change every other month, now Rosemary water is popular, the Products are expensive as fuck and there's no guarantee they will even work. As a kid, my hair was either always short or I had relaxed hair so am now starting to learn how to take care of my hair. It's so hard😭 isn't there one product that does it all😖.
It’s definitely a learning process! Used to have my hair permed since middle school, but had to quit cold turkey once I got into college. Watching all those naturals with thick bouncy curls… the hair envy was real, especially during my transitional phase! What I learned? Keep it simple. Water, leave-in, oil/butter. That’s it. Keep your fingers out of your hair, and it will grow. All I’ve learned since freshman year is how to do twists. I’m in my senior year now, and my hair went from the tip of my eyebrows to the ends of my ribs. ONLY through putting my hair in twists and washing once or twice a week. Ignore the fads. Stick to a routine. And don’t rip out your hair with a brush. It just takes _time._
There's definitely not a one size fits all when it comes to haircare. Especially with us naturals. We tend to try alot of different products. I might use a certain line of products and then at some point they stop working the same way for whatever reason so I try something else. Then because I'm getting older, my hair and skin are drying out more so then I have to change hair products. And also my hair is color treated so that adds to my haircare regimen. Taking care of natural hair is more expensive and time consuming than having a relaxer but I'm never going back to the creamy crack. Forget that.
I've learned something today, never really thought about it from the African American perspective of how it could come from a place of feeling the need to overcompensate for being black. I live in Ghana, and here we have only two seasons, hot and humid rainy season, and hot and dry harmattan season, so showering twice a day with a net sponge is the norm if you don't want to get skin fungi (tinea versicolor to be exact, which is easy to get in our kind of climate). I had just assumed that the culture had been kept with AA through washcloths and showering daily, but didn't realize there could be another aspect to it
Just want all my sistas to know that the real black men appreciate y'all. Your resilience is second to none and it's time we stepped up and protected y'all more.
When are the real Black males going to hold other Black males accountable for causing Black women to have the highest femicides AND homicidal pregnancies in the US? 🥱🤔
Shower in the morning before going out. Shower when I get home. I live in Jamaica, this is the norm. If you’re hot at home during the day or went out again after work then you shower again. If you’re staying home most ppl won’t shower in the morning . 😭😭
It really doesn't have anything to do with heat or racism. I wash when I wake up, after I work out, and when I come home from work afterwards. Washing 3 times a day is perfectly fine.
@@nolipoli430 for some people is a racism thing, for others it has to do with their activities through the day and others live in places where yes, it’s important to take a bath 3 times because of the heat. 😂 There’s no absolute answer.
I've heard that from a lot of people who are Caribbean or who love in other hot and humid areas that showering twice a day is actually necessary for them during summer
I'm arab and i'm tan. My mum is arab too but have really fair skin. I took more of my father side of the family. I remember gettin darker in the summertime and my mum would always scrub harder than usual cuz she is to say "look at you you gettin N* (in arab)". she also used to perm my hair since i was 7, i have really curly hair. It's an african trauma it's really important we don't perpetuate this type of thinking. Since i'm 10 and 8 years than my sisters, I had to make sure they don't get that treatment!!
If I’m just chilling at home and it’s winter or cold out I’m not showing every day. Clean yourself if you’re dirty but what’s the point of cleaning something already cleanish?
The only time I take two showers is if I go to the gym or if it’s that time of the month (I just feel icky if I don’t) other than that it’s 1 and if I’m in the house all day I don’t feel the need lol so that means if I’m in the house for multiple days at a time I don’t see why I need to take a shower unless it’s for like a week then I’ll probably take at least 2. I think the people who take more than 2 have been told they stink or something because why do you need to take so many?
I wonder if the women who take excessive amount of showering are changing their washcloths often (like every two weeks). I also wonder if they are changing their pads and tampons every time they go into the bathroom (even if they are not taking a shower). Hell, if they are drinking the amount of water for their body every day. The only time you should take a second shower is if you are excessively sweating. Even still, sweat does not smell. It is your gut that does.
I really liked this reaction from you, Dee! You should do more reactions to these kinds of historical video essays, cause yes, this shit goes DEEP. So many things in our modern day goes straight on back to slavery. It's awful.
My grandma told me about the bleach in the bathtub... I couldn't do it I have eczema ... but i do put excessive amounts of bleach in àlot of shit 😂😂😂...When I'm depressed *some people don't bathe when they're depressed* I still take at least one shower or bath other then my usual 2😅😅
I never minded peoples bathing habits. Its people adversion to their own body that worry me. If im home on vacation and i dont shower for two days im not losing my mind about it. I may hit my hotspots and enjoy hanging out at home. Im more conscious of how often when i have to present myself in public, im sick, on my cycle or i have sex. I used to take two baths a day because i went to school, walked all the time, and i wasnt fresh as a result. But when my activities lessened the bath per day lessened. The only thing i think women truly should do is take baths instead of showers.
I loved this video Dee, I noticed on social media so many people shouting out how clean they are and how great their private part taste and smell. UNPROVOKED... Smh
There is a point to be made about some people's hygiene practices being overkill, but I'll never stop being livid about people claiming how it's "not good for your skin" to take a shower every day (as if lotion doesn't exist) or who are convinced that you don't need to scrub your feet and your crack. Like some people are way too eager to find excuses for not washing themselves properly 💀
I feel like it’s a thing that routes back to our ancestry we were always dirty so feeling clean made us feel good to the point when we where scrubbing our selves till we bleed
Multiple showers per day will not cure whatever dysfunction is going on with a person, but ok. Thanks for this video, Dee! And I agree with what you said on therapy. 💯
I used to take 3 showers a day during the work week. 1 in the morning. 1 on my lunch break to wake myself back up. Then one before bed. A fourth and fifth if I have a guest fall through. (before and after). I got called the smelly kid in class one time and that’s all it took….after that? My hygiene has always been over the top. It’s kind of a mental thing with me tho. 🤷🏿♂️
I feel like a shower when you wake up because people sweat when they sleep and a shower before bed is not a lot. Plus you urinate and poop every day ( well you should ) I think one or two showers a day is perfectly fine. I work from home i'm always in the house for thenmost part . I shower every day unless I'm on a road trip ( which is not often ) and can't shower i don't let 24 hours go by and not shower. To each it's own though.
I bath twice everyday and 3 times during summer time depending on how hot the weather is and I am in Africa. But bathing twice everyday for me, is a must😁🌟💦.
One thing that is sad about Black mental health is a lack of Black mental health workers. There's not enough Black people in the field. On top of that, some of the ones who ARE in the field just aren't good and forgot where the fuck they came from. I've been in therapy for 8 years now. My therapist is excellent but unfortunately I can't discuss things in terms of race and how certain things affect me BECAUSE of my race with her. I HAVE but she can only give me limited help with that. I try to give her information to read so she can educate herself because that's her job.
Not that suprising. My lady takes 2-3 showers a day too. Full time job and all. I've seen it. I mean..........showers are like 5-10 minutes. It's not that crazy honestly.
I would love your own videos on such topics Dee. As well as the good p** rhetoric, every woman screaming at the top of their lungs how good their p** is 😂 it's embarrasinh
what you said about the ridiculous amount of products is so real because im a 17 year old girl right and i watch youtubers my age and older who are girls and women, and i see the amount of products they use and i get worried that i'm not usinf enough and if i'm not clean enough😭😭cause i grew up with my dad and then i moved in with my sisters who i'm not really close to enough to ask them feminine stuff or sth like that😭😭
Why are these women put each other down like this? Why does those women alow bad racial stigma to scrub themself as a manic truamatic gRape victim and try to normalise it?? These women needs therapy and better support system. Fuck this is heartbraking
this is facts ngl i mean i hit the gym but outisde of that i usually hit the shower 2x a day 1x in the mornin and 1x at night but usually 2x just cuz my face starts to feel grimy and gross but 1 shower is definitely fine especially right before bedtime
Washing hair too often you mean? I’ve personally _never_ heard a black girl wash her hair any less than once a week. I wash once every two weeks. Personally, I think folks get into the fallacy of not cleansing their scalp often enough. It’s very common to see some people go a month or more without cleansing their scalp b\c they have “protective” styles in. But your scalp needs to breath and your hair needs room to grow.
I remember noticing my mom adding bleach to the dishwasher and it confused me because why would you need anymore than the dishwashing solution to clean your dishes lol. Didn't realize that was a black thing necessarily but i guess it is.
Man I remember my Grandma use to scrub the heck out of me and my cousins necks, like dang Grandma I know we in the country but dang its just the sun making us look blacker not dirt. Its all love though ❤😂
It’s one thing to be clean which we should be but it’s a whole other thing to basically be a walking girl in a bubbly like your bound to get dirty also people who overly clean end up getting more sick because you don’t build up your natural defenses
I've been alive for 37 yrs. Never in my life have I heard about a bleach bath, nor any of this. I'm a black man from Louisiana, great grandmother was Choctaw, I know ole school house remedies, nothing to do with hygiene tho. That must be a west coast, north, or east situation.
I shower every other day DEPENDING on how active my day is and I work 2 Jobs....so its no way in hell people showering no 3 times a day. We as people are always MOVING so people need to stop actin like since the beginning of time people had soap and water at there disposal cus that wasn't always the case! Hair is also a topic aswell...hair depending on hair type shouldn't be washed everyday cus it can get brittle and fall out. So I was my hair DEPENDING on activity every 2 to 3 days as well because it allows for your hairs natural oils just like your body parts natural scent to work properly. Instead of causing infections and or bacterial odors and or infections.
