An ESD bracelet (electro-static-discharge) works by grounding the person. This prevents accidental static electricity discharge (like when you zap someone after rubbing your feet on carpet).
Yes -- they bond them together -- it is possible to replace one and the other, but its very difficult and easy to mess up. Safer to spend the extra $20 and get both the LCD and digitizer together as a single unit.
The touch screen is glued to the LCD and is difficult to replace on its own without damaging other components. I recommend spending the extra $20 for a guarantee it's going to work when you fix it. The LCD and touch screen are designed to be together as a single part.
Already answered this... check the other comments: "The touch screen is glued to the LCD and is difficult to replace on its own without damaging other components. I'm guessing you either bent something or when you put it back together a piece got snagged by the track wheel, I'd try taking it apart again and putting it back together?
Yeah... that's the point of replacing it... The touch screen is what gets cracked generally, not the actual LCD, so you replace it to fix the touch screen and the glass. Cheers
Best reassembly video for bold 9930 I've seen! Very well-explained and you even showed how to put it back together, thanks!! A couple of comments -- you need a T5 screwdriver. I didn't have to bend the bezel to get the screen out, I just tilted the top of the screen away from me and pushed it back...same in reverse to get it back in. Thanks for your video!
Not sure what the difference is, if they say they both are for the 9900 then you shouldn't have a problem. To ground yourself at home touch your computer case, or the screw on an outlet -- both are grounded. Just don't rub your feet on the carpet after doing so - the whole point is to not have any static charge cause you can fry sensitive electronics!
I actually tried out the whole process before deciding to buy the screen online, just to be sure I cud do this when the new screen... and I'm going ahead! very well demonstrated process.
I think the code they're referring to is the same as Ali Abdelkader's question--there are different screen versions. It says which model screen you have on the back of the LCD screen itself. I didn't take mine apart to check before buying version 001, I just bought that version and luckily it was correct. I have the 9930 from Verizon.
cuz everyone has a blackberry nowadays xD ..I love both the old and new videos, the old ones because they're funny and the newer ones because they're cool
Great video. Specially as you showed how to put it back together which is what i found the hardest. I have one question. I just tried replacing the digitizer on my bold. and now the LCD wont switch on. the rest of the phone is working fine including digitizer. any idea what i did wrong, what connections i should make sure im doing properly
I have two thin black lines on my bb 9900 which seem to get slightly longer every day but when i 'screen munch' it the black lines dont show up in the picture so what part do i need to replace. I have already took the battery out but it hasnt resolved the problem.
I heard the 9900's screens have some kind of code and if I want to replace the screen, I have to get the some code that matches my phone's code or I have to find a screen that has the code matches my phone's (or something like that, so the shop owner told me). Is it true? Or can I just get any screen from Ebay and replace it?
Hello. Do you know if its factible to open the metal cases on the main board (all except Blackberry metal case is thin, so its easy, but in Blackberry, its very thick). I have a short circuit somewhere and the only place I have not looked is inside all these metal cases.
MstrJames great video.... I found 2 part numbers on ebay 001/111-1 & 002/111-1 whats the difference? if im replancing the screen at home how do i ground my self?
I know. I'm gonna have another go at tearing it apart and putting it back together. im starting to think i might have drawn it when i was cleaning it with my normal laptop screen cleaner.
