Excellent video. Every other video I have watched on using this software, including the video the instructor included on the blackboard site itself, were all nearly worthless.
Thank you for a well documented, understandable video, am at NC A&T and we too are now online ... and I am recommending our dept use Ultra ... unfortunately it is buried in the TOOLS menu for us. Again, thanks for your care and effort in getting us up to speed. DT
Thanks for the very helpful video. I will need to use Collaborate Ultra next week as our university has moved to an online format for the next 3 weeks, so I appreciate your clear demonstration
I know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
Thank you for making this helpful video....we will should probably to start our classes using this tool because of covid here in Honduras...Muchas Gracias
Please can you tell us where the recoreded file of the session is? and how to deal with it as downloading it if possible and sharing with students. And thank you for your excellent video
Can you add a "quick link" to access the collaborate link in the tabs? Without having students go to tools or create a separate session for each class?
This is well done, thank you for this. Question, how can I use a drawing tablet and have it seen in Collaborate Ultra? Does it keep track of attendance?
You would have to be able to project the drawing table into the "stage" of Collaborate and then it would be recorded. It doesn't keep track of attendance unless you have everyone participating "say something" - and you are recoding you can see this in playback
It has been about 2 years since I have used Blackboard as we have moved over to Canvas. I no longer have access to check for sure, so doing it from memory. First it takes quite a while to show up in the spot, but where you go to launch one, it will eventually show up in the same spot.
You use a tool to highlight what you are doing (the yellow circle). I have used this tool before but have lost it on my old computer/. Can you share what the tool is please and thanks.
Jannett, it is Screencast-o-matic, I use it to record the tutorials. There is a freebie version (limited to 15 minute recordings) and a paid version that gets you more bells and whistles.
Dear Robert, Thank you so much, great help. What kind of headset might you recommend? Your audio is clean and clear and easy to understand. Do you use a peripheral webcam also? What kind please? Thanks, A. Carson in Miami
Omar, you can find them in the Collaborate tool area, Recordings are listed under Sessions. You can easily record a Session Blackboard Collaborate Ultra so that participants can review the Session at a later time or it can be viewed by someone who was unable to attend the Session. Viewing a Recording Viewing a RecordingZoom: Viewing a Recording To view a Collaborate Ultra recording, go to your Collaborate link in Blackboard and click on it--this will take you to the Blackboard Collaborate screen--this is the same screen where your Session is listed. Click on the Menu button to open the menu Click on Recording in the left-hand menu. Click on the View Recording link in the list of recordings that are available. If you do not see your recordings, click on Filter By and Select Recordings in a Range and enter a date range to see your recordings
So helpful! I have the same question someone asked below. You use a tool to highlight what you are doing (the yellow circle), do you know how I can implement that? I select the pointer, but it is very small and not very visible to the students. Thank you!
Actually this is part of the tool I use to make the tutorials. Screencast-o-matic. There is a free version but you get water mark and 15 minute time limit. I signed up for the paid version I think I get 3 years for $36 or something like that, so since I use this tool at least once a week, it is worth it for me.
Excellent video! Can Break-out groups share their whiteboard with the whole group? For example, if each break-out group creates a Venn Diagram on the white board, can each group do a sort of show and tell presentation to the whole?
Sally, I haven’t used Blackboard for two years, as we moved to Canvas, but from what I remember at the time - No, only with the people in the group - though Blackboard’s roadmap was that this was supposed to be possible at some point, so maybe it can now!
Many thanks for your helpful video. Just one quick question: can I select only a certain number of students for the virtual class (and not all those who are enrolled in the module)? Thanks
It has been about 2 years since I have used Blackboard as we have moved over to Canvas. From, what I remember the default is for all students in your class can participate or you can edit and just invite who you want.
Thank you for this very helpful video. I was somewhat familiar with the original Collaborate but not Ultra. I do have one (dumb) question: you mentioned that a Word file can be shared with students via Google Drive so that collaborative editing could be done (I am in English). I am not quite sure how I share the file from Google Drive, however. Do I have the Google Drive open on my desktop and use the Share Application feature you demonstrated for the website? Or do I need to share it another way in advance of the session? If you could clarify that, I'm good to go!
I am teaching a synchronous course in which I assigned the students to meet in breakout groups on their own schedule. Can I utilize Blackboard Collaborative Ultra for this?
We no longer use Blackboard, been about 2+ years now, but when I used the tool you could do a live session and record it well, so this would work for a synchronous environment.
thank you for the tutorial some questions though 1)can the moderator give different persons in the group different roles at one time for example student A is the presenter while student B is the note taker? 2) can a google slides be used instead of powerpoint to be viewed on the screen
Actually, I was too quick on the draw! We use Canvas now so I don't know the second question for sure as I haven't used the tool for 2 years. At the time it would only share PPTs, Excel and Word. I had heard this was expanded but can't check.
I am also here because of COVID19 and tried collaborate for my class the other day. I had some who could not hear my audio and others who could see the whiteboard but could not see anything I wrote on it. Anyone have any quick fixes? Suspecting device/browser issues...but it was really making it hard to accomplish anything productive.
Great video, thanks. Could you tell me - where are the recordings stored by default? Just tried a run through and recorded a segment but I can't see where it has gone! I saw the bit about recording from 25:15 on but I didn't hear where it is saved (not sure if you mentioned that). Thanks again. Steve.
Nice video. Sadly this program seems to have a major flaw: it doesn’t show a moving cursor to the participants. Especially for those with intensive visual images to comment on, this is a drawback. The draw tool doesn’t serve this purpose, only registering statically after you’ve moved and released the mouse click. 😞
