What an amazing song and video. It's a tribute to ancient history: it shows how some people were hypocritical. One hired sin eaters to release their loved one's from sins after their death. Afterwards that persons, sin eaters I mean, where cast out of society. Nobody even look them in the eyes. Congrats to Zora's acting. 🖤

The ritual of the sin eater. Common practice in 17th to early 20th century Ireland and Scotland ( although its roots go back to the Middle Ages.) It is said the last sin eater died in the early 1900s.

@@g4tnewnewg4t48 Regarding "music" as a matter of taste it is not really possible being objective, cause everyone has got various senses and likes. So - if you want you can take the amount of sold records, people at a concert etc. But Lacuna Coil (don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of them) is inside the business for decades and Blackbriar is pretty new. Zora Cox could easily be Cristina Scabbias (if you look at their age) daughter. So you compare from a certain point of view oranges with apples. The one person like apples more, the other oranges. But for being fed up you can eat both - even better if you mix the various foods.

For those who do not know: earlier, almost until the 19th century, there was such a position as "Sin Eater". It was believed that the sins of the deceased can be eaten, that is, taken upon oneself if you eat food from his dead body. Most often, this was done by tramps or just people on the verge of complete poverty, who no longer cared. The church did not welcome this, but it was not strongly against it either.

This song is so raw in very specific ways. The idea of loving someone enough to take on their sins and be forced to carry your own after your loved one dies...there's something so painful in that, a loneliness with everyone shunning you for it. I love the vocals and vocal layering of this track. In particular, at around 3:14 she does a little 'crescendo' that almost seems to mimic a violin, somehow. Like if a violinist played a fast run up a musical scale, that's what her voice sounds like to me at that part. Quite remarkable.

Your music gives me goosebumps on first audition. Zora gets more and more and mystical in her lyrics, as time passes by. I have mixed feelings, as a Christian theologian on the lyrics, yet I do vibrate on what I feel to be references to the Eucharist, yet the question ”Who will carry mine?” makes me tremble. In Eastern Orthodox faith, we do not believe in ”sin eating” in the western sense, but we believe that we can take over the sins of other people, as an act of love, sometimes taking years but, in the end, it brings absolution not just to the sinner, but also to the one who took the cross, even helping them to achieve Sanctity. It can be a long and harsh torment, but it is not hopeless and it is always an act of love that makes the ”sin eater” resemble Christ Himself, becoming a living Icon, a living true presence of Christ on Earth. A clear case of something like this is the case of Saint Xenia of St. Petersburg (I would be really curios of what Zora would think of Saint Xenia and her life). So, I associate the vision of Zora with those meanings and makes me love her lyrics and singing even more. Your album is going to be a delight, I am sure of it.

Nice thoughts. In Italy in the catholic church we have the same, you can offer yourself as a victim to free others from the consequences of their sin, acting as "another Christ". There are several saints who allegedly did that. I am atheist but I will always be fascinated by the deep meaning of the sacrifice of Jesus. Blackbriar are European, we European all thrive on the same religious/mithical roots and it is nice the sharing. Our collective consciousness makes us all, somehow, connected.

@@helenaziegler6005 In Romania, in the XXth century, we have had hundreds, if not thousands who were killed, tortured beyond belief and imprisoned by the communist regime, many of them considered themselves ”sin eaters” from the beginning, some accepted their mission in time, once they found themselves in the claws of the system. I consider those who suffered and died like that Saints and that their work is not done. I associate with their experience not just this song, but even one of the previous songs of Zora, and I mean ”I„d rather burn”. The Pitești Experiment was so horrific, meant to mutilate beyond recognition or healing the Human soul, that there people who preferred not just to die in order to escape it, but they actually took their own life, and they are considered Martyrs, as their death was not a true suicide, but an act to save their soul. Probably Zora did not knew about all those when she wrote the lyrics, but they fit very well.

As you said, once under the claws of the regime, under torture, your mind needs to find a meaning, an aim in order to be capable of go through such a horror. I guess it is a psychological need but this does not take away anything to their bravery and courage. Such a sad historical period. We humans can be incredibly cruel. Today, I see all the human cruelty in animal abuse too. Intensive breeding, neglect, indifference and torture, all because we think we are the only worthy creatures. Mankind is so stupid, our sins do not deserve absolution.

When I discovered the track "Preserved Roses," that was around the time I also got fixated on an indie horror game (from Baggycat Entertainment) called At Dead of Night. I cannot disassociate the song from that game in my head, and I adore both dearly. Now, after recently hyperfixating manically on Suffer the Night from Tainted Pact Games (and having the idea of someone tragically falling for the villain and doing his bidding at their own expense)... To see Blackbriar dropping this track on us, at this time, it's the loveliest coincidence! I tend to enjoy the darker and heavier music the most.This song is easily one of the most beautiful and haunting pieces of music I have ever heard.The video is amazing as well.i wish I had known about this band a long time ago.

Yesterday when I fell asleep with my headphones on, this song came out as an announcement and I woke up saying what is this masterpiece playing and I decided to save it to listen to it the next day and I do not regret having listened to it like 50 times in a row I declare myself your new fan. I understand so much! All Blackbriar songs are masterpieces to me... Listening to any Blackbriar song, I think it's impossible to top it until I hear the next one. I discovered them last summer and now I will never be able to do without this band again!
