SMOKING LIVE RECORDINGS! saw Blackfoot in 79 and 1980, best live band ever. Pure energy on that stage. Years later, saw the band in Germany in 1993 while in the US Army over there. Rickey Medlocke signed my record albums and cd covers.
In the late nineties; I had met a girl named Crazy Daisy who had been in a relationship with both Greg Allman and Ricky Medlocke in that past year. So she ended up calling him on the phone after I told her about my own story listed above 👆 your comment and I ended up talking with him for an hour or so about playing the Orpheum Theatre 🎭 in 10/1981 when he headlined over Def Leppard’ which was nothing at the time except for releasing two excellent records until they’d sell out to MTV and how ironic it all was for a little known band like them losing both guitarists within a year’s time along with the drummer’s arm to propel themselves into pop culture and then turning their music into a complete shit- fest after those 💿 s! He agreed with me on electronic replacing good ol’ Rock N’ Roll 🎸 like his original band Skynyrd in’71’ ( in fact he wrote half a dozen songs on the Muscle Shoals album before leaving to form Blackfoot w/ Jackson Spires shortly thereafter), but he was one of the nicest guys in this filthy business called the music industry whom I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking with and he did remember that gig as well as his tour with these kids who had come over from Sheffield 🇬🇧 and his own recount of touring and how cool they had been before being the biggest act of all time a couple years later. He got a big kick out of my tales of woe and he appreciated my going out to see the show too! I always loved the band and after talking with him personally.? I have the utmost respect for both Ricky in general! I meet a lot of superficial musicians on the road and opening for my band now and I never get excited about doing anything with some groups just because I’m a fan of their work, especially when they are too young to experience that in this business; you’re here today and gone tomorrow if you don’t move enough units for your next album and then get back in the studio to do it all over again. They are under the impression that if they put out one amazing CD they’re automatically Rock Stars ✨. Seen blackfoot more than once in the day there still one of my favorites ....finally they were passing through a town about 1 hr away from me killer show just killer. I waited out back I got Rick's autograph and talked little with him. I still have those pictures and autograph of that nite
thanx a lot for sharing this live-performance of this bunch of dare-devils of "southern-rock". for me, the most underrated band back than... first got in contact with blackfoot back in 1987, i guess, when i was at record shop in munich, germany - called WOM (world of music) and there was MARAUDER as a "nice price" offered... since than... love them to this day...
October of 1981 was when I went to see Blackfoot headlining over this newer style of British Heavy Metal calling themselves Def Leppard!!! I was also just discovering alcohol; and had my first blackout prior to the concert. So this kid stole my ticket to the gig, right outta my hand 🖐️ and I was lost in more ways than one ☝️. However my friend convinced Me to go and try to find a scalper to buy another one ($20 back then lol 😂) but I was able to buy it at the box office and I ended up so close to the stage; that I felt the spray of a beer that Ricky Medlocke was opening at one point and it ended up being just 10 rows from the band! So ironic how much momentum the opening act would’ve obtained in the coming years though’ isn’t it sad. You’ve got excellent taste and just what I needed for a morning on the road myself! Likely the same show I was at - Oct 3, 1981. My first concert ever - just turned 13. Funny story here, 18 wheeler parked in front of Orpheum. Written in dirt on side of truck said “Def leppard rules Brockton”. We were hanging out front early and band was walking in front entrance. Ricky medlocke saw the truck and said out loud “fuck Brockton”.
Holy shit that was awesome. Those versions of Good Morning,, Easy Livin and Can't Be So Bad are awesome. Bobby Barth sure added some awesome guitaring on the that song. Always liked his singing and playing while in Axe.. Thank you..
