Sorry guys, I think I didn't state something clearly in the video. The base plate is a package of the b-explorer button panel, arm, and plate mount together in a package. It's not 225$ JUST for the plate.
😄yea definitely should have pin this comment, I was confused also. Thankfully Black Hog Gaming clarified that under my comment. Anyways always enjoy your hardware reviews! Keep it up!
@@Datttsnake noobifier does better objective reviews but morphologis has better subjective reviews, like covering how it enhances the experience of the game, rather than giving you an advantage.
This is super cool looking but man for the price I'm glad I built my own. Circuit board + buttons came out to 50 USD, and the cost of a minor headache figuring out wiring lol. I used an old ammo canister for the case.
yeah i always found button boxes like this to be both on the expencive side (compared to DIY alternatives) and just not quite what i was looking for always missing buttons / sliders or having too many of them. the amazing thing about DIY is that your button box will end up with exactly the amount of buttons and sliders you need in the exact spot where you want them, suplies can be found relatively cheap at you local electronics store (if you are fortunate enough to have one of those) or even cheaper when you order them from china trough something like aliexpress (if you don't mind the wait and running the risk of low quality parts, but honestly it is so cheap that even if you get a few less than great switches you can just order new ones for a couple bucks)
Someone should make a video on how to diy your own! I'm searching for a setup and would rather build my own but then again it's easier to just buy one! :}
You asked about the 4th slide - and I can share what I use mine for: Thrust level. Default is 100% - making the "throttle" more like a switch that gives full thrust until intended speed is reached. I used this a lot to ease up on fuel consumption when the MSR was released. It's fun to tinker with if you need to save fuel - or maneuver in a very tight situation (Xenothreat Cargo, rescue citizens in EVA without killing them). I also use it when I want to make "greasy" landings - hover over pad and lower thrust to allow the ship to float to the pad. Just remember to turn it back up when you launch, or you can make the Gladius fly like a Prospector.
analog sliders for mining power is straight up the #1 reason to use things like this. They have a ton of other features but honestly if you are a hardcore mining player and haven't experienced the smoothness of using an analog slider/dial, any of them, then you owe it to yourself to get either this or even a cheap one. It is amazing.
I pre-ordered a Blackhog and I love it. It's well-built, easy to set up, and very cool. If you can spare the scratch, these are totally worth it. Thanks for doing a review on them, Morphologis!
Ive been looking on and off for something like this for years.... perfect timing Morph! i hope your enjoying your "vacation" . ;-) ive been there a couple times.
I'm putting together a HOTAS setup for WarThunder, and I've been looking at Blackhog for the assembly / mounting bits. I hadn't seen any of their actual devices, and I may have to get one of these, too. Using a panel would be a lot easier than trying to find a key on the keyboard while using a flight stick.
I’ve started down the rabbit hole of building my own HOTAS on a budget (definitely not at the level of the panel shown). This inspired a lot and makes me crave a quality solution in the future. (I forgot about comms!) Thanks for the quality content.
I would just like to say thank you. Without your videos I would not have discovered this game from your perspective. I'm diving in the end of March wish me luck!
Great review! I'm holding out to see the final iteration of VKB's Side Extension Module (SEM), but I'll definitely now be comparing the two before I make my final decision!
@@patrickmcmahon5114 Not specific ones because better ones keep getting made but all you really need is an arduino pro micro or a clone or other ATmega32u4 board (because it has native USB HID support) the arduino IDE comes with a ton of useful examples to figure out the software to use it as a keyboard/controller and the only hardware you need are buttons/switches and potentiometers (rotary/linear) for knobs/sliders you want to give an analog axis, or encoders for knobs you want to be able to turn in steps without stopping, there are a lot of instructables/tutorials for making a "arduino keyboard" or "arduino gamepad" out there. For a housing you could use anything really, a plastic box, a sheet of plastic, MDF, etc.
180 may seam steep, but if you shop around, that's about average for aviation/flight accessories and hardware. Other button/control panels, displays, joysticks, yokes and yaw pedals all run in that range between 150 to 300 USD. At least if its good hardware that will stand up to the gaming environment its designed for.
Bought one of these very early. The packaging was very different and they added accessories. It's a great product. I've been using for over a year now. I also use virpil controllers. Star citizen sometimes confuses things and will read one of the joysticks buttons as the same as a blackhog button, but I'm the only person I've heard having that issue.
@@reda.woodcock dude be careful the virpil stuff is like crack you will want all of it just look at the alphe joystick i upgraded from my warthog and the difference is night and day.
@@falkemberg8683 yes but you get what u pay for i have had a x52, warthog, t1600,and vkb gladiator to name a few joysticks and virpil is in my opinion the best you won't need to buy another joystick or throttle again unless you want 2 of them :-). I like to save up and buy things that last along time, I saved for a year to get my virpil stuff. I'm not a young man but when it arrived in the post I felt like a kid at Christmas again.
Great video. I went the "It's the future so we'd have voice commands." route and got VoiceAttack for $11.99 which ostensibly gives you infinite controls at a word but this looks fun too.
i like many of these videos the ones that you show tech for star citizen but can you show as a some tech for star citizen on a budget that we can buy and are really good, keep up the good work.
That is pretty cool, I'm interested now. I used to dual stick it but I got lazy and just MKB now, I can see this being a cool addition regardless. Thanks for showing!
Is funny who watched the Linus stream, and Morph was shouting and complaining that he lost the key binds on their Hotas Setup haha was so funny we couldn’t flight at the beginning of the stream. LoL
The rotary encoders need bigger caps, I use a rotary connected to a Teensy for my mining and I printed a video desk style cap with dimple, works great the Teensy allows me to change the increment rate and the cap size allows me to spin the thing fast or slow.
I love this! I've been wanting a switch and button box like this for a few years, and even had pondered making one using an arduino controller. I envisioned something with more toggles and some rotary encoders and selector switches, but I'm sure that it would be a big project for me to figure out. Considering the options from logitech with flight sim control boxes, the price here is actually kind of nice!
@Morphologis Any chance we can get a detailed look at your setup? I'm especially interested in your key binds for that nice dual-stick + throttle setup.
Holy frak. I had no idea how expensive this sort of stuff became when I started building mine from cardboard (it's still a prototype!) xD Anyway, the conclusion is so true. It's just so satisfying to push a real switch and something happens in the game. Touchscreens and apps may look more nice but can not deliver on the sensation of pushing an actual switch / lever / rotary and I kinda dislike how most Sci-Fi concepts go touchscreens everywhere just because o0
Thats awesome. Though i went for the virpil control panels myself. Would you consider speaking up on spectrum regarding binding feedback. I find The binding oprions in sc lacking wherein we have toggle options only not dedicated on/off. Theres a cig feeedback tread for bindings each patch.
Morph I can't believe you're still using a T.16000M :-) It's good for the money, but you deserve a VirPil or VKB or something! The Blackhog looks nice, and the acrylic sticker solution is pretty nifty. I like it for immersion but I'd rather not take my hands off the (dual) sticks. Accordingly I added throttles to my Constellation Deltas.
That looks really neat and the price is about what I'd expect from a specialist product. It's one of those things I'd really love to get, however... - HOTAS, keyboard and mouse are already cramped on my computer desk - I don't even remember what all the buttons on my warthog do lol - Some of the previous peripherals I've bought have been left out of use because of those two points Maybe it's worth once I've got a better setup to hold all the fancy gadgets. Too bad it seems SC will launch before that happens at this rate.
Hmm... Question for me is: do I 3d print something like this and try and do all the microcontroller stuff, or buy the box and print my own mounts? Also, been out of game for 4 months now and it makes me sad to see the Eclipse shield bubble is still WAYYYY too big for that ship (6:40)
@@IRJesoosVidya this is panel could be made for like 50 pounds less if you don't get nice switches. i would rather spend more money on something that would last me for along time thats personal preferences. for the same money you could get a elgato which is way more customizable.
@@IRJesoosVidya want to save money this bored can be used to make your own switch box no programing or soldering needed just use pin connector wires www.leobodnar.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=94&products_id=204&zenid=6a1d988cee566ff1350d8617aade9793 use mine to put a analog stick on the side of my warthog.
why does your game looks totally different than mine?! like hud icons are not as bright. can you make a vid about that? looks amazing, and yes, blackhog is on my wishlist when i get back from overseas. thanks!!
Hello. How does the device show up in options menu? Is it plug and play or do you need 3rd party software to get it recognized/bind the buttons? Thanks!
While I get why someone wants real buttons and I do have a warthog hotas. After I've played with gameglass for some time now, for that amount of money I would buy an additional table to use with gameglass. To me that fits star citizen better
Hey morphologis, I have a couple of questions a) How do you get high fps for your recordings? Do you just brute force it with good gear, or wait until you get good fps before recording? b) Do you use headtracking while walking around normally?
The really big important information was what you sadly did not cover at all. Lot's of manufacturers make really great hardware for simpits, but a lot of them have absolutely horrible software to go with it. The ease of setup and the flexibility of the bindings is important. What sort of featureset does the software provide? Is it just basic button mapping ala a standard joystick, or does it have a scripting setup like say Thrustmaster TARGET? Can you make a button that changes modes on the fly, remapping your keys? These are important things I wish you had covered :(
Nice vid. I'm trying to decide on what I want for my setup. I know I don't like using the kb for switching options. But trying to find products that will give the layout I want is tough.
Ive been looking for something like this for awhile. It would be perfect for everything i dont use often and usually out of the way on the keyboard. Plus it just feels good flipping switches and having stuff happen in game. I want to put together an awesome Hotas setup but I have a feeling when this game eventually becomes a thing the Hotas market is going to explode especially if this game becomes huge which I can assume it will and there will be alot of innovation in this market.
If you really wanna enjoy an immersion Play DCS world, I play both star citizen and DCS and I can tell you that the planes in star citizen feels like toys comparing to actual jet fighters from DCS.
Nice. Very interested, as I do love a good HOTAS extension. The question is...........................can I run two of these together? One on the left of the throttle, and one on the right of the stick. :-)
I can't speak for how this product specifically works, but Star Citizen can plug and play with the common custom button box control boards like an Arduino Pro Micro with a Joystick Library or a Leo Bodnar.
@@billmight5662 I ask because i'm currently using the Logitech flight panel which I love but to use it i have to use another program to get it use it for Star Citizen.
Hello Stove, yes. As it is automatically recognized as a generic control device by Windows, it is also recognized by Star Citizen. Many of our customer use it for Star Citizen.
I placed the order last night, but it was canceled by mistake. Therefore, I would like to re-order as soon as possible. Please help. I'm worried about losing money. Please Help!! what should i do????
They do look excellent all round, cant fault, yet already owning a Virpil Cm2 Throttle, i wouldn't choose these over Virpil. Nice to have choice though, and is for the simmer that has a good core setup.
You should ask VIRPIL if they can send you one of their stick and throttle combos to try. From what I understand of them and of the size of your channel they'll probably send you a unit right away...
