In this video I explore a couple of setups to use frequency separation in Fusion Studio. The same techniques can be used in Resolve.

Great video man, even just seeing how you build the edge extension for your mask is a gold nugget of knowledge.

Really interesting stuff! I appreciate you always sharing your knowledge! In the case of the first one you did with the grow edges setup, what method would you use to track the mask? Would it require manual roto?

I'd probably use Mocha. But there are a few ways of doing the same.

Another great tutorial. Thanks. I am wondering if this technique could be "reversed" in order to improve some footage that is a bit out of focus? I know that out of focus footage cant be put into focus. But maybe adding some sharpness to the high frequencies could help a bit. Adding general sharpness will usually just sharpen noise in the areas without detail, so isolating high frequencies with this techniqu could maybe help a bit.

Not really. You can use the hi frequencies to increase the contrast a bit, but that would be pretty much the same as using an unsharp mask.

@Milolab Tuts I do have a question. When you add the MaskPaint node, and adjust the Blur, in my case it was blurring everything in the BG but the stroke. I had to invert the MaskPaint node. Is there anything you were doing differently to get the blur applied to the stroke? In yours the MaskPaint node isnt inverted I noticed. Thanks
