I couldn’t keep up with weeding, I didn’t want to apply à herbicide until the grass matured a bit… And being away often throughout the summer didn’t help things!! Im heading home in a week and will be blanket spraying it. I was going to overseed this fall but I have too many trees and don’t want the leaves to make things worse… so Im going to concentrate on getting rid of the weeds this fall.. give it a good nitrogen boost and overseed in thé early spring…

I've had good initial kill with Bifen but the residual effect is minimal and not worth the amount of effort. Granular and liquid baits have worked really well for me. I've seen Niban recommended a lot.

Yep, I do pest control as well as maintenance. Been down the ant road before lol. Just ordered 6 25lb bags of Blackout TTTF for a few clients, hopefully it looks half as good as it does in this vid, man! Some good cultivars in that mix for sure.

That sucks man. I've had the best luck with victor mole traps and the gopherhawk. Give those a try if you haven't. Killing them is the only way to semi-get rid of them

@@lawnlifevlogs - Allyn Hane, the Lawn Care Nut swears by Yard Dog mole traps. Menard's has them and just got back home. About to do some vermin hunting.

Are you still going through with your overseed with your fractured elbow? That's commitment if so! Having the mix helps a little bit with disease pressure as it's two different cultivars instead of one. The prg mixes very well with kbg believe it or not. My side lawn was 100% kbg and I mixed in fb/ht and it looks great!

⁠@@lawnlifevlogsYes I am :). I’m planning to take a week off work and go slow and steady. It may not be perfect but end of the day it’s backyard and it will be a good experience/practice for when it’s time for the front. I did see the results of your front/side KBG overseeding with the blackout fb/ht and absolutely loved the result. That’s the look I’ve been dreaming of and working hard towards all year this year. I will be doing the front next year in fall. And since it’s my main I’m going to use nothing but the best tried and true blackout fb/ht. Thank you for the tip on the disease resistance. This year has been tough with disease pressure and I want to make sure I’m covered on that end with the front overseed.

Glad you got through the sweat man. As long as you keep it hydrated you shouldn't have any issues unless you are facing weeks upon weeks of those temps. Awesome to hear you had a successful seeding project. Waiting is the hardest part!

I did not. It's mostly KBG with a little bit of perennial rye scattered in. We'll see how it looks together!

I also think it’s quack grass. I had a lot of it in my newly seeded lawn last year. It looked very similar. I hit it with tenacity a couple of times and it looked like it was dying but always coming back. I had to paint them all with glyphosate this spring. The problem is solved now.

Thanks for the replies guys. It is definitely not quack grass, as I have quack grass everywhere else in my lawn. This stuff is much more yellow and way thicker bladed.

Are you sure it was ants? I've never heard of ants bothering grass seed. It could be birds because, birds eats grass seed and they love it.

You can smell it through the bag. It's not crazy bad, but you can definitely smell it in the garage 😂

I have had to deal with triv. I feel like that's more of a reason to do a renovation. Because you're never going to get rid of it without doing one. The problem is that it might come back though if there's dormant seeds in the soil.

Hey bro! I'm not too familiar with the irrigreen system. I know they have bigger droplets instead of a misting pattern. I would water without seed and if you're seeing run-off you might have to go with a different option until the grass germinates.. If there's no major run off, you should be ok using it. Can you send me photos of the weed roots you're talking about? I'd have to see what you're dealing with, with my own eyes.

What's funny is this is wrong and I didn't add any of that stuff you mentioned lol

I used starter fert with mesotrione in it and didn't have any weeds. Hit it with a heavy dose of prodiamine in the Spring since Fescue can take double the rate of other cool season grasses, and it's been a great year for my full reno from last fall.

Another overseed should get you back in business. If it was easy it wouldn't be fun 😂

@@lawnlifevlogs Issues is putting it mildly my man, this has become an incredible AND EXPENSIVE affair to say the least. If I told you my whole story it would be as long as a book and I've only took the care of the property over from my brother last year, it seems that it got to be too much for him. I wasn't really paying attention because I thought he had it under control, NOT!!! He wasn't doing anything right and basically he was just mowing and trimming beds of weeds, so I stepped in and spent at least 4-grand just since last year. I had to buy everything from a wheelbarrow, hoses, timers, backpack sprayer, dethatcher and I started from scratch and it's been a brutal nightmare!!!! I think I finally got everything dialed in, now I just have to finally get the damn seeds to grow me a complete lawn without it all dying off again on me!!!, I must've over-seeded about 7 times since last season. I started from nearly bare dirt I had brought in and about 70% of what grew in, beautifully I might ad, all died off again in the summer heat. Yeah, this is getting to be a real pain in the ass and I'm not a kid anymore, I'm 55 and had back and shoulder surgery and need pain-meds to live, so this shit is killing me softly with its song........killing me softly...........with...its.....song☠️

Also that weed might be Johnsongrass if it has a white vein running down the center

It's mainly kbg with a little bit of perennial ryegrass scattered throughout. We'll see how it mixes together!
