Totally agree. Rather than bare, I would call it very precise. Every part of it has a specific intention, nothing is added accidentally or is a filler, and it all fits together so well and is so interesting to listen to.

Blackpink had two debut songs. "Whistle"won Blackpink their first music award achieving a record for the fastest debut to win a music award. The song accomplished this feat in a record thirteen days. Their other debut song, "Boombayah", would set another record for being the only song from a debut group to achieve a billion views on RU-vid.

Blackpink always sets a benchmark which other bands can never achieve there MV are just insane lyrics, visual, background music everything is just next level❤

Whistle hit the ground running for BP. Amazing, because they doubted it at first, thinking it was too "country" sounding. The MV is a triumph and pushes all the BP themes of travel and global reach and flirty, but never sleazy, romantic symbolism into action. "Every time I show up/Blow up. Awwww."

Until now, this is the only kpop debut song to achieve a Perfect All-Kill in the Korean charts-that means ranking #1 in all Korean music charts. The beauty of this song is in its uniqueness. They really brought something new to the table and they are really brave to push for this. This is still my most fave of all their songs. There is just something about the music and the MV that captivates you. It is mesmerizing, sonically and visually. Looking forward to your Blackpink reactions.

You are at the point that you need to react to them live. The Coachella videos are the best start. Just them, their band, on a bare stage. Doesn't matter which one you choose. Coachella was their "OMG, they're real" moment. From there they started their US and European sold-out tours. They had already toured Asia. Their dance practice videos also are excellent. For fun watch the videos of them arriving in Bangkok and the Paris Fashion week videos. I understand Jisoo is the whistler in this MV.

I really don't understand the whole "feeling empty" about this song either. My guess is that girl groups had a specific formulae on the sound and structure of a song before, which Teddy and Blackpink wanted to break. So it sounded more "empty" compared to much of the bubblegum-pop some people were used to or knew was safe. Great video btw, much better balancing in the audio, so thanks for that ^^

The end of the video haha! I have to admit that I identify with you. I've listened to Whistle a thousand times, and I'm still dancing like it's the first time. I'm glad you enjoyed Whistle, it's one of my favorite songs from the band. And curiously, it's the one with which I became part of Blink! This and Forever Young (which has no MV) were the ones that stole my heart. I didn't comment on the Lovesick Girls video, but I want to say that we also shared favorite scene in that MV. The market scene. The color selection in that part is eye candy. Do you plan to watch all of Blackpink's MVs first? Or do you want to listen to their music in chronological order? Personally, I would recommend you in order. Next should be Boombayah, then Playing with Fire, Stay, As If It's Your Last (also one of my favorites) and then DDU-DU DDU-DU. After all those MVs, they released their first mini album: Square Up. That one has three songs without MV. It could be a good opportunity to see their live performances or their dance practices! But well, that's my recommendation since I think it's great to see the production evolution of their MVs. It's up to you to see what you most want to see first! Once you're done reacting to their music (or during, however you prefer), I'd like you to react to guides or other fan-made videos as well. Even since you react to kdramas, are you considering watching their series? They are all available on youtube, their official channel. If it hasn't been mentioned yet, their song as if it's your last was in the movie avengers Civil War, and yesterday I heard kill this love playing during a Nicolas Cage movie trailer.

Great reaction. Teddy Park (the producer of all their songs) said something like YG management criticized the song as weird, Country sounding. But he and the members strongly supported it's release, and it is one of the most popular songs in the Blink community. BTW, it was coupled with Boombayah, which of course was a guaranteed banger hit. So, YG didn't just release Whistle and bank BP's entire future on it. That is not how YG plays the music game, they play the smash hit after smash hit game. Also BTW, you have an interest in Kdrama, right? I am sure you are aware that Jisoo (the one levitating in this MV) is the star of Snowdrop (a great Kdrama that premiered in December and is on Disney's channel). Jisoo's original focus was acting. Seems that you have an interest in the editing choices in Kpop MVs. Check out Mera's "Why You Can't Look Away From Blackping" discussing the Member Specific Cinematography used by YG editors, using specific color schemes, camera movement patterns (the camera is often looking up at Rose (see DDu DDu DDu Du), as if she is a Goddess) and scene structure (Jisoo often goes from darkness to light (see Kill This Love), seemingly living in the shadows like a Vampire) for each member that is consistent across most MVs. So you were very correct in recognizing the immense effort that goes into designing each MV.

Cute dog! And I loved the re-watch. This is the only one of Blackpink's M/V's to use any green screen, and it only uses a little bit. It also gives a visual nod to how Blackpink are going to conquer the world (also "Blackpink in your area") by showing each of the girls sitting on the globe, with the earth turning pink underneath them. There is a similar scene at the end of the "How You Like That" M/V, where you can see a world map on the dome behind the dancers, with Trojan horses aiming out from the general area of Korea towards the rest of the world.
