33 year old guy who was the same as you. I used to make fun of pop/k pop when my gf would listen to it. Finally one day she convinced me to watch How You Like That music video and i was shocked. It was an absolute banger...then I went on to the next song, and the next and so on. Banger after banger i was floored. Now here I am a year later having listened to every one of their songs and know almost everything about them haha. watching their reality show you get to know them and their personalities and that was really cool. You should watch it eventually it's called Blackpink 24/365. They also have a Netflix documentary called Light Up the Sky.

The secret ingredient is their producer Teddy. He writes and produces ALL their songs (sometimes with others). He’s been serving these beats for BLACKPINK and their forebears and label mates for about 20 years now. He is very, very good at it and his artists have sold millions and millions across Asia and the rest of the world. BLACKPINK is his special project and he has a quality over quantity approach for their releases- to date they have only released 22 songs over six years (new album drops on September 16th), with long hiatuses between releases- but they go all out every time. It is a less is more strategy that has paid off big time- all masterminded by Teddy with input from BLACKPINK.

so Blackpink is basically a boutique band. not a lot of items to choose from but everything is high-end! They make very few songs for how many years they've been together, but every song is good. I can't think of another artist that can say that, except for maybe Shania Twain. Not a lot of content, but bangers. You're lucky you got into this once there was already enough songs to react to.

BLACKPINK & TEAM know no other way to put out music. Team= producers, choreographers, visual team, set designers and a lot more people. They DO all this "in house". Funny thing is that some people think that the girls are just there to be the perfoormance part with no input. But Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa are fully involved with all aspects of putting together these songs. But yet, they help with lyrics, choreo, visuals and more They also say things like they are lazy with their music (long hiatus) to put this all together, the results are undeniable....... 6 vids with over a billion views and one of them is a dance practice (How You Like That) BLACKPINK IS THE REVOLUTION

They make songs that i might not necessarily enjoy as much as others, whilst still being able to appreciate it for what it is. But 6 years active and only 20 or so songs released. I think the fact of the matter is if they make a song that they or their producer aren't 100% satisfied with, they just don't release it. From their Netflix documentary Jisoo said for the song whistle, they re-recorded just the whistling 1000 times before they were satisfied. Imagine how much time they spend on an entire song. But, i mean it payed of.
