The girls literally and figuratively went UP another level in the M/V and in their career They went to a new floor that's empty and plain white, a blank canvas for their next chapter. And they shut down their past videos that we see references in this for because they’re shattering all of those records. They are their own competition.
SHUT DOWN references to their other MVs: 00:56 - Playing with Fire 01:06 - BOOMBAYAH 01:11 - DDU-DU DDU-DU 01:25 - BOOMBAYAH 01:38 - DDU-DU DDU-DU 01:45 - Whistle 02:17 - Playing with Fire 02:32 (sword scene) - DDU-DU DDU-DU 02:45 - DDU-DU DDU-DU 02:50 - DDU-DU DDU-DU (chandelier) & Whistle (driving car with Jisoo)
@@percivalarcherriego2098 that’s true, although it’s confusing where to reference that part since they had a lot of car scenes in their other MVs as well.
I loved Shut DOWN, especially the violins. It was all ATTITUDE and the beginning of a new era. The attitude, music, production, lyrics, choreo and message give this mv a life of it's own and it's going to be a long fruitful life for Blackpink.
Eyyy! I was waiting for you. The mv is a masterpiece. Blackpink proved that they are different and no one can duplicate them. They all slayed in this comeback. All songs in the album are all good!
BORN PINK is different as BLACKPINK had told us to expect something different. They are growing as a global group, they're breaking new ground for themselves, I'm in for the ride. The is TALENT. period We need to understand that we like different things than the person standing next you... We are all different, this is WHY WE HAVE CHOICES..... DIVERSITY IS WHAT MAKES THIS WORLD GO 'ROUND, EMBRACE IT
I actually loved this song. Def in my top 3 off the album, can't wait for you to listen to it. I agree that PV was fun, but this is more something I'm gonna play on repeat. Glad we finally got some new music❤️🔥 They dominated this concept/comeback. edit: "I'll take what I can get" I think we all felt that😭
you are absolutely right about the D4 references. this song had a lot of familiar references - like Lisa on the bridge, jennie on the tank, rose on the globe, jisoo's umbrella, lisa's sword, etc. someone needs to compile a list!
I really enjoyed Pink Venom, but i LOVED this one. I really enjoyed the call-backs. As someone relatively new to BlackPink, the old videos are still fresh in my mind.
I personally love both songs .. Shut Down is stuck in head with that violin instrumental. In my opinion, the number of songs in the album is perfect because we get to appreciate each song and get to pick our favorites and in my cases for many the entire album become a favorite… albums with lots of songs it could be overwhelming at times and many of those songs end up just being in the album as fillers. That’s my own opinion. I got to listen to all of their songs and personally for me as of right now is a no skip album that’s being play constantly.
I absolutely love Shut Down, I'm obsessed! I personally did not like pink venom at all which is new for me cause even when I don't like a song on first listen it eventually grows on me but Pink Venom just refuses to stick for me. Shut Down made me remember why we've all been looking forward to a Blackpink comeback, they just have that sound and vibe that is so unique that no other group can fill. Despite the song being outside the Teddy formula and sounding nothing like their previous songs, it still sounds like Blackpink.
YEESSS! Those set got all references from their previous comeback 1. Ddududdu: jennie in the glitter tank, jisoo with umbrella + her part with the paparazzi (CAMERAS ONCE AGAIN FLASHING IN JISOO'S FACE BUT THIS TIME SHE'S THE ONE HOLDING THE CAMERA) then rosé on chandelier and lisa pulled out the blackpink’s sword 2. Playing with fire: lisa in the bridge, jennie with lighter 3. Whistle: rosé above the “world” or globe 4. Boombayah: lisa first rapping part with a bunch of pink money and their set while dancing on the second chorus 5. Kill this love: rosé driving a car
Sorry, but u forget about: all the girls inside the car at the beginning of the mv, this is a reference to boombayah intro where they are on motorcycles together (the background is the same, with the pink color and black coconut trees, and there is also a reference to the whistle, after the first chorus, where Jennie starts to sing they are inside a car going around! jisoo's scene with rose in the car in Rose's second verse is a reference to whistle where they are on top of a car
I love it.. it’s different , fun and filled with tons of references.. they look and sound amazing and look like they’re having a great time. Jennie’s got my eye always but holy hell they look incredible… it’s fun and vibey and blackpink
This one is different. Because all the members are rapping Jisoo and Rosé was rapping in this song and i didn't expect it. Yeah it's really different and surprising, then all the sets in this music video was their old sets in previous music videos. We kinda expecting the same formula again like Jennie and Lisa will start in rapping then Jisoo and Rosé with the vocals. But they are rapping, Shut Down is literally a different vibe
The click click sound at the end of Jisoo's final lines sounds like an automatic after you run out of ammo. Idk if it was meant to be that, but it's tough either way.
I really like this song but I feel like this could’ve been either the pre-release or a b side rather than the main title track, it almost feels a little too simple for a title track but idk that’s just my opinion (:
Thanks for the reaction Rj! I get what you mean. The hype was all over in Pink Venom because that's the first song we hear from Blackpink after 2 years. So, when we hear this song, the longing we have for BP is almost paid off already. And this song have different vibe, tempo, instruments, etc. But still, I love this very much as much as Pink Venom. And yes, pls react to the rest of the songs. Me personally love this album so much more than the previous one, The Album. These one are all masterpiece ✨🖤💗
Yay 🥳 They all shuted down everyone in this era fr 🔥 waited for your reaction extra excitedly (no Treasure reaction this week 😭) Love your reaction rj ❤️✨️
Shut Down is plain and unexpected, also hip-hop/rap-based. There isn’t heavy vocals (the vocals’ parts even seemed like rap) and the chorus does not go heavy like their previous singles. I personally would have wanted a post-chorus and a bridge (!!). They can drop the dance break from this song because it’s cool as it is. I really liked how they did something more fresh for the title track, just like Lovesick Girls (that song was gold, nobody cant touch it). I would have liked something like that or As if it’s Your Last for a title track but I certainly enjoyed this one.
One reactor said that Shut Down was sort of a Pink Venom continuity as a response to all the hate it got. You can see from the lyrics how the girls dissed the haters. Honestly, I think the main reason why some people didn’t like Pink Venom was because of the same repetitive “formula” it used. It was great had DDDD, KTL, and HYLT not been released yet. Its lyrics honestly are lesser in meaning compared to the rest of the album and “ratatata” was called a “noise” but performance-wise, BP killed it. I think, people can consider that that song is performed with dance as well hence the heavy drop in the end.
This song gave me CHILLS. I was a little worried cuz Pink Venom had to really grow on me and I didn't like it at first but Shut Down is an INSTANT hit for me. Those strings, the production, it's all great. ETA: I agree, Lisa had NO RIGHT being so cheeked up in the outro.
This was the opposite for me. This one feels like a B track and not a title track. I liked pink venom almost right away. I didn’t love the chorus tho. But this one might have to grow on me cause I didn’t really like this or the tempo or the chorus
@@jpachu16 I can see where you're coming from. I think for me I just like the formula shift and understated power of this song. They're both great and the album is amazing too!
i think it's good they showed something different shut down is really different and very hip hop which i like a lot ! The Born Pink album is really good my favorites are the happiest girl, hard to love and typa girl (aside from pink venom and shut down)
my opinion is probably unpopular but I didnt care much for this one. Im not a hater, I do love blackpink but this one just hit different and that's fine, it just didnt do much for me. I do enjoy the visuals and all the stuff from previous videos they brought back but I don't have that excitement for this song as I did for their previous ones. I dont know what it is that got me hooked before that isnt there now. Part of me feels like some of the people going insane about pink venom and this one are hardcore fans that would love the shit out of anything these girls do no matter what. Im still a fan but these last 2 songs are not going on my playlist
As for me, I like the song since the first listening more than Pink Venom, tho I expected some build up in the 2nd chorus coz the tempo of this song is too chill (still in a good way) compared to Pink Venom. For the B-sides it's still so-so for me, but I'm curious about your reaction😬
tbh i loved pink venom bc it has a genuinely new sound, however if we're going to talk about repetitiveness, that's shut down, bc literally during the whole song the only melody are the first bars of paganinis la campanella and it gets so overwhelming after the first verse already. I wish they'd changed it up a little.
I liked pink venom but I don’t love this. I appreciated all the references to their old videos so I wonder if they’re trying to say something. Like if they’re tryna say they’re putting that past behind them or something? Or just that all their hits shut down everyone else? I don’t like the tempo or the lyrics. This just felt really boring to me and I’m surprised it was a title track cause it really feels like a B track to me. I only like the use of classical music. I thought that was nice.
