Went out on an early morning kayak session from La Jolla Shores up to Blacks Beach(Winter 2013). Came across a large pod(or multiple pods) of Common Dolphins that were actively hunting either fish or squid in the area. A large troop of 15 or more Sea Lions were following the Dolphins to pick up the scraps! Apparently when they are seen working together like this, it is likely that they are both hunting squid and squid eggs that spawn in this area every year. After the feeding frenzy the dolphins took a nice food coma stroll up the coastline, swimming side by side with out kayaks as we traveled up to Blacks Beach where the Dolphins joined the surfers.
