Always a pleasure for the eye and for the brain. You sir are a more efficient and a greater teacher through RU-vid than any other blacksmith teacher could hope to be in a school (don't know if it makes sense, not a native english speaker). I watch a loooot of blacksmithing videos, and among all of the great blacksmiths there is, you are by far the most polyvalent and ingenious. Maybe the advantage of the number of winters you spent above the anvil and the vice. Keep up, you are really playing a role in the transmission of knowledge here.
Great video, Dennis. I can't donate since I still don't even finish high school, but I would still suggest putting the link to your Patreon on the vide description. Also as a totally different thing, have you thought about making an instagram and publishing pictures of your creations there. Anyways, I enjoy your videos, and best of luck with your endeavors.
This really is an excellent video series concerning the Padlock build. I'm watching it for the 3rd time. Would it be possible to make this Padlock series into a playlist unto itself? I've been forging for 20+ years, including for the National Park Service, and have never made a lock of any kind. I consider this series as an important learning source and will be using it in the near future to make my own Padlock.
@@df-intheshop330 -- Awesome, thanks!! I know you designed this lock on the fly or as you went, but do you have any plans or basic measurements? I'm talking about things like overall length and thickness of the lock itself. I'll figure out the interior stuff as I go like you did in the video. I do have the book written in 1999 by Spruce Forge titled "Manual of Locksmithing, A Blacksmith's guide to simple Lock Mechanisms", but it doesn't have a padlock like the one you made in the book. Thanks!!
The width of the lock case is 3". The height of the case from the point at the bottom to the flat section at the top is 2"3/4. The cover and backplate extend beyond the lock case by approximately 1/4" on all sides and the two lobes at the top of the lock extend beyond the top of the case by approximately 3/4".
If you click on the patreon link ( orange P ) at the very end of any my videos that will take to directly to my patreon page. On my page I have only one option to donate ( $2:50 ) but you can change that amount after you have selected that option. Thanks
