Just bought this one for my 2013 FPIS. I also have the DR900X plus for my 2020 Volvo S60. I can’t really tell the difference between the two minus the minor updates. They both are fantastic. I had a DR750s 2CH and lasted for 11 years. I finally had to retire the camera because the lens became very blurry due to the Texas heat. For the money these cameras in my experience last a very long time. The app for iPhone is great. It can be annoying when it disconnects from WiFi however it’s forgivable. Technology is not perfect especially when you work in IT were stuff breaks everyday lol. Very happy overall and an investment that will last hopefully for another 10+ years.

Hey blackvue, love your cameras. I depend on my dr750lte every single day, and it’s never let me down in anyway. But the new phone app is not good. I don’t care to see other peoples dash cam footage, and peoples live view.. it seems like a social media built into an app I just need to check my footage and check my own live view. I really wish I didn’t have to update, now I don’t feel like checking my camera anymore, since the update. Also, 14 hours in parking mode is not enough, please blackvue, we need 24hrs with fast chargeing capabilities.. under 1 hour to charge to 100% with 24hr battery life.

Hey there, thanks for the feedback! Rest assured we have voiced this feedback to BlackVue directly, and there are updates to the app due to be released within this week focused on the addition of a guest profile and moving the default tab to the camera tab. Extending parking mode is more difficult, especially given that your LTE model must stay connected to the internet at all times to provide these advanced features. Still, we'll pass on your feedback to BlackVue.

Question about the LTE version: Does it still have the 3 spots to enter a wifi network and if so does it try the wifi networks before failing over to LTE or is that the primary connectivity? Thanks.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Oh good question! Yes, I can confirm that the LTE version will have 3 spots for exterior wifi networks. It will default to these connections when in range over the LTE.

I have the 900xp plus with rear camera. The rear camera works but there’s times the front camera doesn’t. I think it’s too hot. I had problems with the lte divice as well as my t-mobile sync drive. I tried updating the firmware. My question is if I but the DR970X could I “when needed” format the sd card & update firmware, than put it back into the 900x plus. I’ve been wanting a 3rd camera & this makes more sense. I’d put the 900x for passenger side & put new 970 as front windshield. Also would this camera help my 900x connection to Wi-Fi? Does 970 have a SIM card slot, that I can put a 3rd party provider? Can the 900X feed off of the Wi-Fi from 970? Also in regards to pick-up trucks. Are there any 4K dash cams that’s weather resistant, for a license plate mount. I have the rear camera on my back window of my Ram. I feel if I had on outside on the plate frame, I’d get closer to reading the vehicle plates behind me. I only see 1080p for rear dashcam for plate frames.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Hi there, lots to unpack here. Yes you can use third party cards with the DR970X and DR900X, and format/update the firmware on a computer. The DR970X does come in a non-LTE and an LTE version, with the LTE version have a SIM slot for the cloud. Once set up, you are able to use this as a hotspot for your DR900X. There are only currently 1080p external rear cameras at this moment. For more in-depth responses, I recommend emailing us at: info@blackboxmycar.com

The Power Magic Pro would be the only part you could re-use, the cigarette lighter adapter connected to your camera would need to be replaced with the new version.

Currently debating doing ridesharing, but I'm torn at the moment. I started with a DR900S-2CH after being rearended in April of 2020, then quickly upgraded to the DR900X-2CH a year and a half later. I always wanted Blackvue to make a 3CH version of the DR900X. I'm debating my options atm, I love the DR900X, meaning I'm probably leaning towards the DR970X-2CH LTE but I do kind of like the DR770X-3CH box. Is Blackvue ever going to do a 3CH 4k version? My other option would be running 3 cameras, Putting the new DR970X in the front, with the IR camera attached to that, then running my old DR900X in the back. Not sure which is more logical.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Great question Garrett! Old-school 3-channel BlackVue setups would involve a front + IR with a separate front unit in the back, it is definitely feasible, though can be a bit complicated. If you were to run this setup, then you'll probably need a battery pack, with output that you can split for both systems. If you are doing ridesharing, then an IR interior camera is definitely necessary in our opinion, we have yet to hear word on a 3-channel 4k system from BlackVue in the works, getting 4k on a 3-channel system can be difficult.

I am interested in two things of a dash cam. 1. Live view 2. Cloud based storage What I so far noted, To have live view option from anywhere and anytime as Balckvue simply say, you need LTE versions and an active sim connection for the dash cam. Plus, to enjoy the service throughout your country you must decide the best connection in your country which has a strong coverage. The catch would be, those types of connections are not cheap (in my case Telstra is the beat coverage for rural areas in Australia and connection price is starting above AUD 50 per month) More, to enjoy cloud based and other better features we need to pay the Blackvue subscription which is not lower than AUD 16 at the moment per month. Basically, I am looking at AUD 70 - 90 per month cost just on the dash cam. As far as I did my review surfing, I would be lucky, if I do not find major issues with the app, having access to the app, navigating through the app and could checking and downloads. Should I buy it? What is the best reliable dash cam with above two features I am looking for? Please share your ideas. Thanks

While the BlackVue camera can act as a mobile hotspot for additional devices, it is unable to have other BlackVue cameras connected at the moment. I believe there were issues with the implementation when this was an option.

Unfortunately I've tested two DR970X and they both overheat in the sunlight where my DR750x Plus and the DR770x keeps on chugging in direct sunlight. I wonder if Blackvue will release a firmware update to raise the high cut-off temperature as currently per their specifications its at 167 degree high temp cut off (DR750x/DR770x has a 176 high temp cut off).

I have an old Blackvue DR650S 2 channel already hardwired to my car. I want to upgrade to the DR970X 2 channel (the one you reviewed on this video). Can I just use the existing power cables and wires for the front and rear view cameras from my current setup and just plug in the new front and rear cameras to them? Are they compatible?
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar 2 месяца назад
If you have the DR650S hardwired to your car, then that means you are using a Power Magic Pro. The newly updated hardwire kit introduced with the X series does not need the Power Magic Pro, and I'd recommend rewiring the power cabling so you can control it in-app now. Still, if you'd like to only re-run the cigarette lighter adapter, keeping the PMP, it will technically work. As for the rear camera, the good news is that the cable is still exactly the same, though the rear camera itself is upgraded and will need to be swapped. We answer the differences more in-depth here: www.blackboxmycar.com/blogs/news/blackvue-x-vs-s#:~:text=Video%20quality%2Dwise%2C%20there%20isn,the%20difference%20is%20also%20minimal.

Hi. Great review. This may be a silly question, but what happens if you out the car in the garage for work or if you want to wash the car, wont it go into parking mode? Does this function need switching off every time? Also parking mode only has battery life for 14 hours so what happens if you go on holiday for a week (ironically the time you need parking mode the most. Thanks
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Hi there, glad you like the review! The BlackVue DR970X will go into parking mode either when it detects that the car is off through it's wiring, or when the vehicle has been idle for 5 minutes. This function and parking mode overall is designed to be fully automatic. If you go on holiday, or have the car parked for a period beyond the length of parking mode, then the voltage cut-off will engage, and cut-off power to the camera until the vehicle is turned on.
@ayaanbretmitchell9830
@ayaanbretmitchell9830 Год назад
@@blackboxmycar yep ok. So if the car is going in for work or if I'm detailing the car it's best to turn the entire thing off?
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
I mean, rest assured the camera will never kill the car battery or anything like that because of the voltage cut-off. Still, once it's reached that cut-off it will stop recording. You can turn off the system when sending your camera in for work, but it should be fine to leave it on.

@blackboxmycar

No problem! You can insert a SIM card into the LTE module, and through that it can provide internet for the dash cam. With that internet connection, it can connect to the cloud, and allow you to connect to the camera remotely. Beyond that, it also allows the camera to act as a mobile hotspot for you when you're in the vehicle.

Recently installed the BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE with B-130x battery. Is there any way to turn OFF the Blackvue dash cam similar to had it was with Power magic pro? Even with parking mode turned off in the app there is still constant battery drain. Pretty annoying when you don't need parking mode and it drains the battery (e.g. parked at home garage over night)
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Gotcha, yes this is an option, as the B-130X battery has an on/off switch on the battery itself you can use instead to cut-off all power draw, similar to the Power Magic Pro. I recommend installing the battery in a way that makes this switch accessible. Otherwise, you'd be looking at wiring in an inline switch.
@Riceboy369
@Riceboy369 Год назад
Being that the B-130X battery is substantially bulky, I assume most people install it either under the seats or glove box. For me it's under the driver seat which makes it not easily accessible. It'd be easier to just unplug the power at the Blackvue dashcam. But honestly what's the point of turning off parking mode if the dashcam is still going to draw 12.xv power ?? Interestingly even with normal record mode and parking mode turn off from the app I can still see full power draw when plugged in.

Question, I noticed the DR770X- BOX series has the GPS as an external device via USB, so if you want to add LTE with the CM100 you probably need a "Y" connector to plug both, correct? also -both GPS and LTE receivers must be attached to the windshiled too, and last but not least, where is the shock sensor located? at the main box? or at the front camera? Hope you can help, I'm trying to decide between the box series or the LTE 2ch version from Blackboxmycar.

Hey there Fernando! Excellent questions here. I've followed up with my team and since we have yet to have hands-on with the device, it's tough to say for certain. So I've followed up with BlackVue directly on this, and we'll see what they have to say. I can say that worst case scenario there were previous USB splitters implemented with the DR750X-3CH, so that would work, but I don't believe it will come to that, and I'm currently leaning towards the CM100G having built-in GPS. Still though, I'll let you know once I have heard officially from BlackVue. I will also be enquiring about the G-sensor, though that is likely in the main unit as well.

Thank you for your feedback, I agree with the splitter adapter, I did't know about the all-in-one GPS+LTE module but I heard Vortex saying they are coming with an updated LTE module, so may be that's the answer, I have hopes the shock sensor to be in the front camera, otherwise the sensitivity will be compromised, I'm thinking if the front camera has LED so there must be a way of handshake to the main box -maybe? I appreicate any information you can come with so I can order the right system for me. Thank you-

@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Месяц назад
Ah, yes, this can be a problem, though there are workarounds. Basically, both your carplay and camera will operate as wifi signals, and the carplay may bully your phone off of the camera wifi. It does depend on your carplay, but most of the time it's the Bluetooth portion that performs this automatic connection, so when you need to connect to the camera, all you'll need to do is disable Bluetooth first. I can assure you that this won't need to be a regular thing when you enter/exit the car, you can just let your camera do its own thing, and only connect to the camera to view footage and change settings. Thanks for reaching out Scotty! The only difference is that the LTE model has a bigger body to make room for a built-in SIM slot, allowing you to put a SIM card directly in the unit for an internet/LTE connection! With the normal one, you'd need a separate LTE model(CM100 LTE) or another wifi source outside the unit.

I am loooking for a dashcam that automatically upload to server/cloud images so, if someone steal my car or steal the dashcam itself, i could go on the server and found the face of the thieves. If someone grap and steal or destroy a dashcam it is impossible to recover it or having gps location. Is this model capable of live upload of recording? i think could be impossible to record and upload all the time, but maybe it is possible to activate uploading while recording WHEN is detected an impact or a disconnection due to robbery... thanks

Yes, this BlackVue DR970X would work for your use case there. While it cannot be set up to constantly upload to the cloud all the time, you can set it up to automatically send footage when an impact or motion is detected when parked.

Thanks
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
Hi there, if you are looking for remote cloud storage as you've described, then BlackVue would be your best bet, let me clear a few things up. Yes, BlackVue does have paid plans for the cloud, however the free plan is very comprehensive, and works for the vast majority of our customers. As for the LTE versions, these versions are not required for the cloud by any means, and just refer to their option to take an SD card, as you've described. Standard 770 and 970 models are still definitely cloud capable, though you'll need another wifi source, likely a mobile hotspot in the vehicle. Realistically, BlackVue's app is the one of the most advanced dash cam apps out there, there has just been some recent issues with the new version of the app, as they attempt to smooth things out. BlackVue completely overhauled the app switching around the basic UI and so on, which left some people a bit lost as well.

Thanks for kind consideration and time you spent address all my concerns. But, if I need to check live view in remote areas not home or not within the radius of my mobile as the hotspot to use, then I cannot go for live views or cloud base storage also gonna face limitations (storage is filled upto a limit and cannot hold extra clips even upon an event) due to lack of an internet connection to do both of them? Please advice. Thanks.
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
@@sandeepakasun3470 No worries, I'll try to be more specific. When it comes to a mobile-hotspot, you're right, if you're hotspoting from your phone, then once you leave the range with the phone, the connection is lost. Still, there are dedicated hotspot devices that you can leave in the vehicle for this, which ill get the job done, implying they have power. I don't know much about the Australian Market for hotspots, but here in Norht America, the Verizon Mi-Fi hotspots are popular and a good reference. Another thing I actually did forget is that when it comes to remote connections/cloud, a lot of devices are continent specific, we strictly sell the North American variants of BlackVue models, if you want the Australian version I recommend going to BlackVue's direct site.

How will this dashcam do if my car is out in the sun on 110 degree days
@blackboxmycar
@blackboxmycar Год назад
High heat is definitely a concern for dash cams, as this camera has a maximum operating temperature of 80°C. At that point, the camera will turn off automatically to preserve the health of the camera. Realistically, it's parking under the hot sun that causes the most risk for Dash Cams, as sitting there on your windshield directly under the hot sun can be detrimental. Consider models with heat resistance in-mind, such as the Thinkware U3000.

Thanks for the feedback, we'll pass it on to BlackVue. Currently the only way to turn on/off the mic for these new units is to change it in the settings of the camera. As for the dedicated format button, it can prove useful when reading unusual SD card types.

@@blackboxmycar Thanks! The format button has its use, but my point is you probably won't be using it that often to warrant having a physical button. At the very least maybe there should be a multi function button, i.e. press once to toggle audio on/off and you hear a voice prompt telling you if it's been enabled/disabled, hold to format the card. Getting rid of the ability to use the touch to turn audio/on off is a major step backwards IMO.
