i love this film,it's fun and entertaining and has some cool creepy scenes.william marshall was an excellent actor with a cool voice.loved the ware house scene.
I watched this as a young boy on late night tv. One channel had horror movie marathons every Friday night starting at midnight. Mum and dad would be asleep by then. Me and my bro would wake up at midnight and watch a few hours of these horror classics. Good times! ;-)
I remember seeing this movie in a theatre when it first came out. I was probably about 8 years old. I was too young to know that I was watching a "Blaxploitation" movie. To me, it was just another vampire movie, with a black cast. And I was a huge vampire fan. The image of the vampire lady running down the hallway towards the camera in slow motion hounted me for years afterwards. It's still a great scene...
This movie is often wrongly dismissed as just another "Blacksploitation" movie. It is actually very well written and directed and stars some great actors that give this film alot of credibility. William Marshall's excellent performance as Mamawalde is the crown jewel in this underrated film.
Adolph Caesars voice overs in the trailers during the 60,'s 70's and early 80's were tight. LoL @ "Dracula's soul brother"🤣🤣. RIP to the memory of Mr. Adolph Caesar AKA Sargent Waters.
This is one of my favorite horror movies. William Marshall gave such a star performance. I love his deep, powerful, sexy voice. There is only one other actor who played a terrifying vampire and that was Christopher Lee. He was another great actor and one of my favorites. Blacula and Scream, Blacula, Scream are some of the best, well-written horror movies. I'm 60 years old and I still think these movies are scary.
Blacula is coming on now sept 27th 2019 in Chesapeake VA . I have seen this movie dozens of times love it . Never get tired of it . Mr Marshall brings this and all of his characters to life. such an outstanding actor .
@M B as in in this courent of ethnicizing white characters this already has a cultural awareness behind it so it has a better chance of being remade to give new blood to the I.P. (pun intended)
I like this film alot! Very well crafted film but even at that there's a few things I would have liked to see...1. An opening scene showing the African royal couple in Africa-mabey having their wedding?. 2. A scene showing the African couple at the reception in Dracula's castle. 3. Mamawaulde speaking his native tongue in a few scenes and speaking in a strong foreign accent (Marshall said in an interview that in early drafts of the script the character was named Andrew Brown). 4. I would have liked to have had an explanations of how the vampire could exist locked in the coffin all those decades. Anyways without blood wouldn't he have turned to dust right away? I think he was in some kind of a coma. 5. In some scenes we see Brudah from the Count Yorga films picking up the vampire's coffin and driving him to the warehouse. I think this is supposed to mean that Brudah is not only Yorga's servant but works for some kind of sinister occult organization that sets up Vampires, mabey like the cult in Rosemary's Baby. Perhaps Dracula had told the whoever they are group, about Mamawaulde trapped in the coffin and the group was I charge of ownership of the castle, and subsequently made arrangements for the coffin to be put in the warehouse? The studio actually had plans for a Count Yorga vs Blacula film, but alas it never happened. I think part of the reason was because of Robert Quarry having a bad fallout with the creator of Count Yorga (he admitted to such in an interview and said he vowed never to work with Kellijan again. I always thought that the Return of Count Yorga was far superior to the first entry). Unlike the Yorga character who's a total bad guy, Blacula-despite being a vampire-is shown to still retain some semblance to humanity. (he's still in love with his wife (didn't anybody discover her rotted bones and clothes in the attic?), and he clearly misses being a human being (Count Yorga falls in love with Cynthia in the Return of Count Yorga (though whether she feels the same is not made clear) but unlike Blacula, Yorga never misses his humanity (there's a clue in the Return of Count Yorga that he was indeed once human when he tells one of his servants about being in love and says: "an emotion long kept from me."). The Blacula sequel was not as good as the first one. The writing was not as good and Pam Grier's acting was not great. Still I thought the voodoo subplot was very interesting. As Bill Marshall said: "'the sequel was not as exciting. We had mined all the nuggets in the first film." Also how exactly was Mamawaulde planning to return home? I mean was there a chest big money hidden in the house? Fifty years ago it would have been alot easier to get a forged passport than it is now (the old find-a-name-birthdate-on-a-grave-stone-trick and then order passport applications). Ok that's my Blacula review. Opinions?????
This movie brings back a lot of memories when I was a kid that Thrifty's on 6th and Broadway were blackula walked past I used to shine shoes right in front of there memories
I live in the U.K but they have yet to show it on terrestrial TV. I suppose that this is to appease the Politically correct Brigade. I would love to see both Blacula movies as I have read good reviews especially about Blacula. The made the best films in the seventies especially horror films. The decade lent itself well to horror. I mean look at the fashions ha ha.
From what I can tell this was supposed to be a movie meant to be taken seriously, and not like a parody of the horror genre, or a comedy or anything like that. That's crazy to me, the premise is ridiculous, but I grew up in the 90's and not the 70's so I have a different perspective
One of my favorite b-movies. Blacula is a cool, groovy dude with a deep booming soul train kind of voice. It kills me that they couldn´t let him get away with his beloved Tina. Why kill an icon like Blacula? It´s racist if you ask me-
anyone who dislikes this movie is racist, cause u dont want black actor to perform dracula, i kid... go watch Candyman, good horror movie with good black actor whoever is interested
I like this movie, say what you will. I saw this movie when it first came out and then the second. My mother would take me to the movies, knowing my love of horror films. I can still remember sitting in the movie house, eating a burger and people shouting at the scene....Get that mother fudger and who could forget The Hues Corporation in the film. Oh those were the days, bring your own food in, smoking (alright I know that's wrong, but back then you could), the balcony and gum under the seat.
Personally,I love the movie, but with the world being so political correct today,no studio would even think about bringing the character back for a reboot.
Please, Twilight couldn't hold a candle to Salem's Lot. Salem's Lot was a tv movie. Blacula is a bit funny but still scary . Only a black vampire can get away being shot 5 times and still able to break the necks of 2 police officers.
