My first heli was the Blade 120-SR. It taught me how to fly in all orientations. I disagree with those that say you learn bad habits with a "fixed pitch" heli. You learn muscle memory how to control the helicopter without the added complication of adjusting pitch as well. Here's a WIND flying tip that I used on that one, and I'm sure can be used on the S2: Cut the rotor tips about 1/4" for flying in breezy conditions. The motor will run at a slightly faster RPM for a given lift, also less rotor surface area for the wind to effect the machine. Now, once you're used to this heli, do yourself a favor and buy an OMPHobby M1 or M2. They also have stabilization modes and you'll be amazed at the quality.
Great video, I have the earlier green canopy version and have this model to thank for not only teaching me basic heli flying but also getting me back into RC model flying after a few years away from it. For what it is and what it costs its an excellent cheap way to get into flying RC helicopters. I even put a small camera on mine and did some Fpv flying with it and it is my 'go to' helicopter for letting beginners have a go over at flying (over long grass!). In my experience as long as the ground is soft this bird will rarely get damaged unless someone is really throwing it around which is not what a fixed pitch heli is about anyway. My advice to anyone thinking of buying this heli as a beginner is to use it for building confidence with orientation and basic manoeuvres and it will serve you well.
Yeah the 120s2 is my recommendation heli for people new to the hobby or beginners still practicing their skills, I had the original 120s and I must say we have come a long way since then, this heli is a big improvement over the original, I heard the green version had some issues so I never got a chance to try that one out, I still fly the 120s2 when I just want to relax, have fun and just fly worry free, thanks for watching 👍🚁
Hi, up until about a week and a half ago I was still trying to get the basics of rc heli flight down, spool up, take off, trying to master hover mode, tail in, nose left/right, etc. etc. One morning I head out to get some more flight time under my belt, and instinctively , I went into a nose in hover, and aside from being able to control the heli tail in, I was able to control her nose in, controls reversed and I was really surprised that after some patience and persistence I was finally able to get to this stage, this heli I've got to say is a must for those of us getting back into the hobby of rc heli flying, and if I may, I'd like to give a big shout out to NitroKyosho, Freddy Cordova, Yourself , Retired U.S. MARINE Nightflyyer, and the numerous other helifreaks for getting me to where I am at, at this point I now have the confidence to take my Blade 400 3d to where I need it to be, airborne with confidence. Again the BLADE 120 S2 is a good learning tool, and IS A TON OF FUN TO FLY !!! FLY SAFE !!!
Oh! You have one also! Mode 2 intermediate was my choice since I'm just learning these things all over again. I like mine too... Crashed my 150S. Hit a fence, broke a main blade and tail rotor. Waiting on parts. Again... LOL! - Lauren
How's it going ? So I uploaded another video, this was a test flight with the new aluminum swash plate I purchased and installed from Rakon Helicopter Co. Ltd out in Vietnam, there was a noticeable difference, I noticed the solid feel when I grabbed the main blade grips to set her up for flight, there was still a minute amount of waggle, but not as significant as with the stock swash plate, all in all it made for a smooth flight, and I went a bit higher and just a bit farther, just before sunset.
Yeah it is a lot of fun and it looks like you started out with the perfect heli to learn on, the transition should be pretty smooth since you already fly planes, good luck and thanks for watching 🤙🚁
Have you checked on ebay, this is where I found the tailboom, out in the. UK at Midland helicopters, or Rakon Helicopter Ltd. out in Vietnam, in fact I am waiting on the aluminun swahplate for my 120 S2 to install to see if it will alleviate the in-flight waggle.
I was flying my 120s2 in a 15 mph wind and it was handing great, my old 120sr could not even take a 2mph wind with out getting blown out of the sky, ha ha. My 130s which is suppose to be 3D with ease and it is suppose to be able to fly in up to 10 mph winds I think, but it does not fly that great in any wind, it drifts all over the place, I’m trying to learn to fly a collective pitch with that heli, That 330s looks like it’s more stable in the out doors.
It is definitely more stable then I thought it would be I was kinda worried about that the 330s isn’t cheap it’s a 500 dollar heli but you get what you pay for it’s definitely worth it, Blade did a good job with the 120s2 as well it’s a great little heli, I like the fact they went back to the original canopy color, reminds me of my first 120 I bought years ago
I went ahead and replaced the busted main blade spooled her up and she is airworthy again Lol, however right now the trade winds are gusting at about 15 to 20 knots, I usually wait till just before dusk when the winds simmer down.😀
@@melvinquinene4778 yeah that’s when I made this video right at dusk, I find that its best to fly at dusk or early morning when the wind is at it calmest
I've been meaning to make a short video of.my flight with the 120 S2, dont know where to go to for that, been looking, can't find the video icon thingy Lol
@@rcreviews9894 My daughter told me I would need to take a video with my phone and then I could upload it ai caramba Lol ! Video will be forthcoming after I change out one, or both of my main blades, I was at my daughter's house ( elevated location ) and disregarded the windy conditions, went airborne, did a few circuits and oh boy, here came a good guest of wind and into the boonies she went lol, went to retrieve her and found one of the main blades had snapped off of the blade grips, no serious damage, I have a spare kit to salvage off of.🤙🏻
I've got a question for someone. I have noticed that when I am in a tail-in hover (indoors), the tip of the tail fin vibrates at a very high resonance side to side about 1/16" of an inch. Can someone verify if this is a normal characteristic or not? Thanks in advance!
@@rcreviews9894 Yeah I have been searching there and haven't been able to find anything. I have a feeling this is not going to end well at this point. I wished I could find other spektrum fixed pitch beginner helicopters because it's starting to seem that they want the money for a full replacement.
@@larsulrich3356 you might need to search around at your local hobby shop for a replacement part then, but they do exist I’ve seen them maybe horizon is just sold out at the moment the Bade nano s2 is another heli you could look into, I will have a flight video of that one up pretty soon !!
@@rcreviews9894 I was thinking maybe there was a compatible tail motor with another chopper but it doesn't make any sense for them to be sold out as much. I am having a hard time believing it would be in such high demand. It should be listed but back ordered as well if it did exist in the first place.
@@larsulrich3356 yeah I’m not sure what’s going, horizonhobby.com is usually pretty good about having parts in stock, however I’ve noticed that even some of the helis I’ve recently featured on my channel the 330s for example are out of stock and some say they’ve seen them online as discontinued! These are fairly new helis and horizons top sellers some are being rereleased and are available for preorder?? I think it has to do with spectrum coming out with those new smart batteries and they need to update the software. If I were you I would keep looking on HorizonHobby.com and maybe chat online with them and ask what’s going on or check out TowerHobbies.com they sell the same helis .
I had a blade 120 the tail would never hold steady so I bought a Ninja 250 it was much better if I was to buy a Blade again I would go for the 230 s its a better machine I have 2 of them.
Yeah the 230s is a good bird, I recently got a dud ,the blade 70s, I did a unboxing here on the channel and I was planning on doing a maiden flight but I could never get it to fly right, out of the box it would spin wildly out of control, needless to say I crashed it and immediately broke a tail blade, so not wanting to give up on it I bought replacement blades and till this day it doesn’t fly right lol, I’m not wasting anymore time or money on it, I’m guessing its a gyro issue because it won’t level out, sometimes you get a bad one I guess, thanks for watching 👍
@@rcreviews9894 You definitely got a lemon there. I have a Blade 70 S (and its twin, the Esky 150 V2) and they both fly fantastic, really easy to control and almost as stable as a coaxial.
@@michaelramsey82 yeah that’s a first for me, Blade is usually pretty good when it comes to quality out of the box, this one might have slipped through the cracks who knows
Flying is a totally different animal gotta be sure wind conditions are good and crashes are a bummer but it’s happened to all of us, live and learn sorry you broke it don’t give up though it’s part of the hobby learn from it and be patient when making repairs
@@rcreviews9894 it’s good I should of stayed with the drone I bought but I canceled the order to order the plane because I’ve never had a plane but I get it
@@stevejohnston8543 this was not my maiden flight, if owned it since it came out, I’m still flying it, haven’t broke anything yet, fingers crossed, the 330s has had my attention lately, that and my 230s smart
Agree Keith. This thing is JUNK. How about that stir stick they call a tail boom. I’ve broken several just FITTING THEM IN!. Also it flies very unstable in mode 3 and not at all like a collective pitch heli, which while flying is solid as a rock. Broke it so many times I’m stuck with a bunch of parts but I’ve put it away for awhile as I can’t stomach it at this point. Once you’ve flown quality helis you will trash this. I could go on forever about how poorly built this thing is. Sorry, good review but I just hate it with a vengeance at this point. For less money you can get a much better trainer heli. Hell even the V911 trounces it, and for way less money.
I broke the tail boom but a little super glue will fix it....I was trying to fly backwards and smacked it into the house...the brick house is fine, the helicopter...not so much 😁
