Definitely. You don't see people getting into fights on Forged in Fire. It's a pretty professional and relaxed environment. Drama does sell though, it's entertaining.
When will show producers realize that we love the fabrication skill and process, and they don't need to waste our time with the slapstick humor and family conflict?
So true. The real talented people rarely get their voice heard it's always the untalented person with connections who gets in charge and dictates this shit.
Cory yea this comedy and making mistakes or something on the line bullshit is old. You know what Alec Steel is great. Know why? Because they just do things. Make a mistake then figure out why and continue. The entertainment is then making the blade and being dedicated at the same time.
John 89 so they watched Tanked. Then said let’s copy that routine. I’m talking Tanked season 3 not the seasons they actually taught you things. Then paid a guy to dress up eccentrically to seem like a collector have odd art stuff. Wanting a cleaver the size of a young girl? Does anyone take this seriously? No a small piece of steal doesn’t cost a few thousand dollars especially if dropped. Buff it out and move forward on.
Once again.. I love Todd's knives. He is a true artist and has an great understanding of blade geometry. And I say that as a blade fan, it is my hobby. However he has sold out for this show. They are not showing the real spirit of the knife community, they are showing the fantasy crap that people some people like.
It's funny how he sells $4,000 knives like a piece of candy not allot of people can do that and this man is a legend I hear about his blades months ago and just found his show today.
You guys are awesome I had planned to go into that business myself I started making knives when I was 12 and now I am still making knives today and I plan to go into it as a business
man you have no idea what hand made means huh? its impossible to make sutch a cleaver with onley your hands, you need al least a machine and if you dont care go buy a 10 dollar factory cleaver and a cleaver made by todd and compare them
Dude I have started making knives myself all with files so far, even making the handle materials myself, I will accept shaping and contouring with a belt sander still as being hand made, but punching in a file off a computer and cutting parts in a cnc machine is not hand made, maybe hand assembled but but not truly hand made.
Knife Builder not impossible as you say, it's time consuming and maybe not financially worth it...but far from impossible. CNC is not hand made, manual milling / lathe work ya but not cnc. Take a look at folks like stan wilson, wire inlay by J Keeslar, Dan Graves. Nick wheeler etc etc etc. Thus far, this show is stupid, IF.. they made it about the knives and the process / fabrication Id prolly have trouble leaving for work but alas, its about stupid shit.
The other guys should have taken it more seriously. That was a big project and the client was paying a lot of money. It does seem like a hostile work environment.
I Font knie of one of the blade brothers or somebody ekse of the is readung this Bit what do u think about smithing|making a hidden blade Luke in assasins creed....I know u could so that and a Lot of People would pay a Lot for something like this.....:D
Not sure why it got cancelled, because their facebook page says there will be more, but Johns son actually died, some time after these episodes aired, which is horrible. But i can't seem to find out if that was the reason or not the rest of the series was not shown
I couldn't come up with the payments on the 12 thousand dollar blade so it was reposessed. I managed to lop off a few limbs with it though. I think that's why the show wasn't picked up for a full season. oops. wink. - Merkley
I liked, but, it is an over scripted show, cmon, they could have show the real work, the real problems and teach ppl bout it... but no... Discovery channel is ni longer bout science... so sad Discovery channel... shame(bell rings) .... shame (bell rings) ... shame.... bell is dead, Discovery channel killed history....
Good knife maker. But he's dsigns are ugly and dumb. He should make some simple styles. With style. Something like benchmade barrage or spyderco delicas
......He has a stylish classy blades, like the bodega.. Why would a custom knife maker make something people can buy of the rack like any other spyderco or benchmade.. this cleaver is pretty crude, it's not a knife, it's made to be rediculous, just as the customer asked for.. Not an custom art piece with a damascus blade and timascuse handles.. you really have no idea what your talking about have you? comparing production middle-end knives with hi-end oneoff customs..
may be you are one immense ignorant kid, will you pay 12.000 usd for this cleaver? And i know about this things, may be you dont know nothing obout metal working, please shut up and go watch your manga animations
$12,000 would be stretching it in my books aswell. if there was more hand work involved like forging and hand done engraved art then I would pay 12 or even more depending. but i couldnt see myself paying that much money for a cnc job
I wanted to see Bodegas being made. You know... knifemaking. Not this fantasy crap. And all the phony scripted bullshit... what a disappointment. Bodegas suddenly don't have the same appeal to me any more. Dumb show.
