Mr. Gavko you should not think to hard about making your sheaths on a larger scale, from watching your videos i can see that you are very skilled and have a passion for what you are doing. I would purchase products from you. Good luck with your endevors you are a RU-vid rockstar as far as I am concerned, arete!!
I watched this video some months ago. I just bought a TOPS MSK2.5 - Love the knife - Hate the sheath, took it out to the shop cut it the way i wanted, heated it, formed it the way I wanted And now I'm happy the the MSK 2.5 package - THANX for the great advice It worked great. I will be getting some gear & making sheaths for some of my other knives straight away... THANX AGAIN!!!
if i had seen your sheath by itself without watching this vid i would have sworn it was machine or factory made! Beautiful work i am very impressed! Thank you for posting.
Hey Gavko, thanks for posting. I don't know if you are going to save me money by giving me the incentive to try my luck at making my own sheaths, but you definitely gave me a new project for my free time. Thanks again.
One of the best videos if not the very best videos on making a kydex sheath! I certainly appreciate all your efforts to make this a 'step by step' video and you definitely did an excellent job! Thanks sooo much for all your efforts on this superb video and may the good Lord continue to bless you and yours!
Mike, Thank you so much for your contribution to all the knife making enthusiasts out there! You have been a big inspiration to me as well as many others. Keep up the good work mate!
this is a great video great tips. im working on my first kydex sheath for one of my pistols and just did a quick one for my leatherman wave. thanks for the tutorial it really helps.
one of these days im gonna get you to make me a sheath for my kabar knife, the leather sheath i have is not made for lefties, love the vid, always fun to see you doing what you do! great stuff brother!
I couldn't care less about knife sheaths but you covered a lot of good information for working with Kydex and getting a professional finished product. Good tips, great info!
There are so many different mounting options for kydex. It is mind blowing. question for you. Do you prefer a 1 piece of kydex sheath, like a clam shell? Or do you prefer a 2 piece, sandwich style?
I have watched many of ur kydex vids but I've always wondered if u do the same thing cold steel does and put tabs inside the part of the sheath where the knife snaps in. I've noticed that this gives much better retention
i wanna start working with kydex and i respect your knife knowledge alot so i was wondering all the videos i see people put the eyelets on the kydex and i dont have the machine to do the eyelets. could i just drill the holes around the perimeter and lace para cord?would that hold it?
Nice Video. Can I ask where you got the small blow torch from and what is the name of it? thanks. Also I would like to make a video request: can you show how we can make a sheath for a small blade (something like: 2 inch blade/ 4 inch overall). The sheath needs to be folding to protect the 2 inch blade and 2 inch handle. So its like a fixed blade I want to convert into folding... I made the knife by taking only the blade from a spring lock knife and tied paracord to protect my hand when holding.
Nice work ! I go to the same beach as you in SW Fla. , really nice place . Just started watching your channel , you do really nice work . I'm a retired toolmaker / welder . Keep up the videos , I enjoy them . I'm a Glock shooter BTW , also shoot the 1911 , Ruger mark III is the best way to practice with a pistol . Great Job !
Great video! General Tool Deburring Kit Part #484 would be a handy addition to your toolbox and is inexpensive. I have also used my Dremel router table and bits on plastics for a factory finish edge. You answered many questions I had, as I am going to make my first sheath. Thanks & Keep Up the Good Work :-)
Thanks for the video, I have been wondering how to make a kydex sheath, very cool! Also, is that torch reliable? I am looking for a good jet lighter and this is one of the ones I am looking at.
great vid gavkoo, think i'll try to make one for one of my knives just a quick question, is the kydex thats sold to the public, the same quality that knife manufatures use or is it not as good, i wont waste my time if its not top quality kydex
Great Info, You helped helped solve an issue I was having. You have very professional work, I now have a goal to strive for in my finished projects. Thanks for sharing your skills.
Thank You for this info. I've been trying to find ideas on how to make a sheath for my machete. This information helped me out alot. Please keep up the good work. I'm now subscribed.
have you ever made belt loops with the kydex? if you do you should make a video on it i would be interested in seeing how you do it. ive been looking for a good way to make belt loops for gun holsters.
@gavkoo now set male "die end" into female die end and use the clamp itself to press the female (top half) of die into the foot of clamp. now every time you want to press a rivet you have that c clamp. but what make is real good is that if you get a shop to weld a nut onto the end of the clamping arm and remove the bar, you can use an impact gun with the same size socket to operate your new press ;) just an idea, although im sure the hammer method is really easy too.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial, I am in the process of sourcing all the components for my first sheath, what size eyelets should I go for to use with a tech lock ?? Cheers
I have never built a press like this but I think 1x6 might not be strong enough in this application, especially if there is a knot. Good, instructive video.
have you tried punching holes in the nylon webbing and having it in between the rivets and kydex, instead of using the chicago screws? it'd be permanent, but i'm just wondering if it works as well
I'd recommend using a heat non-conductive surface for heating your kydex. The tile floor will sap the heat and make it rigid again, complicating the process.
Hey Gavkoo iv got a question mate you say you use 0.08 kydex i live in Australia so we work more around Centermeters to millimeters So i was wondering when you say you use 0.08 is that inches? millimeter? or centermeter? cheers mate
Impressive video! Where is it you buy all the rivets and kydex from? As I want to make some sheaths for my gear. Look forward to hearing from you. Keep up the good work
Hello, once you are thought to have been finished, and you realize you want to modify it, can you heat it up and change it a bit? or will it weaken the kydex?
Zdravím z České Republiky! Tvoje práce je skvělá, jen tak dál! Chtěl bych se zeptat, jak vyřešit kydex sheath u Ontario Spec Plus SP-46, kde je před začátkem čepele zarážka? Díky!
this is killer...... i have to try to make some things, i checked out your store and you have a lot of stuff. my mind is overloading from ideas...........
Hello there, Could you tell me what size of chicago screws did you use? also, where can I find the die set or base model to crimp the rivets and what size did you use? Thank you
Where did you get your kydex? Ive been looking on amazon to see if they have more than 3 pieces, im not going to buy one or two lol, that shits expensive ha ha
@armedtetrapod When you heat it up well, the two slick sides will kin of melt together a bit. But they can be pull apart afterwards when its cool unless its overheated and it melts completely
i always thought it was easier to thermo-mold before i rivet the two halves and go from there. guess for knives it works and with what little extra you have hanging off the sides too
Hi mate I was just wondering what do you call the green squared mat that is in the vid as I have searched ebay for them but nothing come up I think its because I dont have the right name for them thanks and mint video bud
Hi I have a tanto blade its a mossy oak tanto with the plastic grips you probly heard of the knife im talking about but I just wanted to give ypu a heads up it only 20$ for the mossy oak knife set tanto and hunters, blade there both fixed blades, too.
Excellent video thanks for sharing, now i just have to find places in the UK where i can buy everything. I want to make Kydex sheaths for my condor goloks and Parang.
I think I'm definitely going to attempt kydex making bro! If I get good enough on my own knives I may sell them in my knife shop. Oh Foo Fighters rule! lol Nice ringtone.
