I cannot believe that I actually had to search a video on how to change the blade. I feel like a complete idiot until I watched your video I've had this thing for quite a while and could never figure out how to change the blade. I was actually pulling the screws out and taking it all apart to change the blade. LMAO 🤣🤣

I got this today and I'm taking it back tomorrow. I don't think I should have to lube it or take it apart and fiddle with it to make the slide mechanism work. It was relatively expensive (I'm sure I'd have had no problems with a $7 knife) and I've got a big project coming up that will require near constant use of a knife. I just got this one because of the comfortable feel in my hand. Maybe this is a sign that I should've looked harder to find one of the two I misplaced in cleaning and organizing my shop area instead of taking the easy way out and buying a new one. I love DeWalt, but this was a big disappointment.

Just purchased this exact product today. It needed a little work, but it works perfectly fine after using a little patience and elbow grease to work it. I was skeptical at first as well while having trouble. Works fine now. Thanks for the video.

There are more surface tension on newer blades. I usually lube all my new blades before putting some new batches in the storage compartment and it helps with rusting and also easier(well I think it is) for the quick release to work.

Mr Bailly, thank you for you video. As I worked with you to remove the difficult blade, I found that pulling back on the blade toward the trigger makes removal easier.

Forgot how to open it and had trouble getting the blade to hook in as it will, so by moving around the sliding part back and forth was able to get the blade to lock in blade thank you.

thank you so much. I just bought one of these. My brother had to install the blade for me. I like it because of the easy clip on for my tool belt. Great Little knife. We did however have the same issues that you mentioned here. I appreciate the video. I'm keeping mine. It's a solid, heavy duty piece of equipment.

HOW TO INSERT & REMOVE STUBBORN BLADES: A major number of negative reviews, and comments pertain to the seeming inability to insert & remove blades. This is due to Dewalt's inadequate blade insertion instructions, and not due to a faulty blade insertion/ removal mechanism. However Dewalt needs a less tricky more user friendly mechanism. Ease of Blade insertion and removal is "tricky" not difficult, or impossible once mastered, as follows: BLADE INSERTION: 1. Move the blade slider to full forward as if you were extending a blade to its fully extended position. This fully extended position of that blade slider is needed both to remove, & to insert a blade. 2. Initially Insert the blade tip at a 45° angle to the top of the blade cavity (not the flat side, but the top of the blade cavity) until insertion stops at about 1/4 of the way in. Be sure the flat of the blade is not inserted at any angle to the flat of the blade cavity, which it will do easily. Unless and until the flat of the blade is exactly lined up with the flat of the blade cavity you will not be able to proceed to steps 3. thru 5. below. 3. Straighten the top of the blade from its initial 45° angle to the top of the blade cavity in step 2 above, to instead where the top of the blade is totally parallel to the top of the blade cavity. I emphasize the word totally here. This is the tricky part. By totally parallel above I mean so the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity totally. The blade will then slide further into the cavity to where only the last of the two notches atop the blade is yet visible. 4. Press the blade release button hard while executing step 5 below. Note: This blade release button does not have to be pressed until step 5. below. 5. While being sure the top of the blade is still totally against the top of the blade cavity ( this is the tricky part per step 3. above). Then in that event with the blade release button pressed hard, per step 4. above, the blade should then easily glide completely into the blade cavity, and lock in place. Wallah! BLADE REMOVAL: 1. Fully extend the blade.. 2. Press the blade release button hard while executing step 3. below. An even harder press of the blade release button may be needed to release the blade than the hard press of it needed for blade insertion. Ridiculously hard! 3. Be sure the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity, whereby with the blade release button pressed extremely hard the blade should then remove easily. Note: If the blade does not then remove easily then in that event: A. Again be sure the top of the blade is pressed against the top of the blade cavity. B. And/ or a little gentle jiggling. C. And or a relaxing, and repressing ( again very hard) of the blade release button may be needed. Wallah!

I think most people having trouble with the release is they are pushing the tab or button down. If you actually take a close look at the button, it is actually a lever that rotates however slightly, but makes a big difference when it comes to the release of the blade.

Its super easy and i just love it! I bought one for my twin sister and one for her hubby... and of course, one for me. I dont need to lube it or play with it. Slide the blade out, like youre going to use it. Now holding it in your right hand, with your right thumb push the black tab down (follow imprinted arrow.) Once depressed, with your left hand remove the blade, switch it around to use to reverse side or put in a new blade. Easy sneazy!!😊😊

I couldn’t get my blade to release at all. Had it fully out and the quick release lever fully engaged. Even tried using pliers to grip the blade to try and pull it out (partly so I wouldn’t slice my finger open). Nothing worked, but I then put a tiny bit of wd40 under the slider, on the blade, on the quick release lever, and even in the little cutting slot at the bottom for good measure. Once that was all done and I moved the blade back and forth with the slider a few times the blade pulled out with almost no effort at all. I realized that I haven’t changed the blade in forever and probably just a little seized up in there. Blade also had a little rust on it too. Works great now so I hope this helps someone else!

Issues with pivot post of release lever free play. May help to operate with lever towards bottom for gravity to settle lever on pin. Also Gun oil lets them work smoothly. The type with button over blade reduce linkage possible error. However they are overall very fine knifes both folder and solid design. Mine was being a bit sticky to change blade after years of use but with a good soap and water wash then oiling it works as new. Easy one hand folder operating. Also the auto load of new blades is amazing feature. Three reserve blades pop out as needed in an instant for razor sharp cuts. Also be sure blade is extended to full out position. Then lever can operate release phase properly. Oil also helps in anti rust of stored in handle blades as well as smoothing mechanical mechanisms. If having issues may return to store. Most likely they would replace free of charge.

I had an issue with mine where it would not release the blade. The quick release was loose. I removed the 2 screws on the side, and the quick release tightened back up by itself randomly, so i just replaced the screws without taking the blade apart. It's back to normal again. 🤷‍♂️

To Install the blade just push the blade in with the thumb mechanism fully extended out, it's very simple. DO NOT press the quick release to insert the blade it won't work. Press the quick release to release the blade. If you try to insert the blade while press down on the quick release it will jam.

When you loaded the blade you didn’t put it all the way in, only 85%. That’s why it didn’t release. We call the armatures error.

Mine worked great for about 6 mos. NOW the blade just falls out! The slide-retract thumb control doesn't function. The quick release is also not functioning. It took a smallish mallet to it...nothing. Now I took apart to see if something feel inside it. Took the two Allen nuts off and i cannot figure how to reassemble. There is a canter levertype of part with a spring. So any help would be appreciated instead of a bitch session like here

Why should I "give it a bit of time" when the product is supposed to work from the start. What kind of "quick release" is that. And the quick release lever itself. Could they make it any harder to get a hold of? Terrible product. The slide on ours also doesn't slide. It's junk that skates by because it says DeWalt.

It seems the quick release level doesn't have a retention screw/plate to help keep the lever in place. If the lever pops off it's internal pivot pin, that's when it stops working. See video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YL3vXiMoJig.html

1. Push the upper button forward to the end. 2. Press the small black iron piece to the end with the index finger instead of the thumb(or the thumb of the other hand), so that it is easy to replace the blade. It is strongly recommended that by the index finger is not the thumb, because of this small button you have to press it down fully to remove the blade, so the index finger is more suitable for pressing it down, and the thumb is very awkward!

I purchased DWHT10319, it is indeed a junk product. 1. The push button is very stuck, it is difficult to advance and retract, and it is very low, you will worry about being scratched by the card slot when pushing. 2. The plastic shell is not fixed, so it is very loose. This is a junk product, don't buy it.

Personally, I'm done with this laughable pieces of crap. I'm going back to the "old fashioned" yet painfully reliable "clam shell" design. It's more than worth having to take a few minutes to unscrew the body to replace the blade then having to worry if the blade is going to randomly just get joinked out the front when cutting something dense like shingles. These knives suck!
