Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth | the future of indie games 

THE CYBERPUNK IS NOW

I love Blade Runner, and im loving the art style. Cyberpunk is one of my favorite genres ever since I first played the Shadowrun tabletop rpg years ago. Never heard of this until now, so thanks!

I think it's also worth noting that Annapurna Interactive, for all its "indie cred" that it has deservedly accumulated from publishing titles like 2017''s What Remains of Edith Finch and the final 2020 edition of Kentucky Route Zero, is less a boot-strapping production label and more like, the daughter of the tenth richest person on Earth getting to bankroll games she likes the look of with her daddy's bucks. If you're wondering how Annapurna snagged a license like Blade Runner it's important to remember that founder Megan Ellison works in Hollywood and this is also how the company has been able to secure name character actors to do voice roles for games like Sayonara Wild Hearts and the Artful Escape. I'm not saying all this to diminish Annapurna's work or that of Ellison's but rather to point out that Ellison comes from a position of financial and social privilege that has sufficiently empowered the company to bankroll the projects and secure the talents that it does. It's not luck that makes their risk taking possible, just a tremendous amount of (social/financial) capital available to place bets.
