The traditional Drones with propellers are harmful as they can cause cuts to humans and birds. Also, if the drones accidentally hit an obstacle, the delicate propellers can easily get damaged.
This Propeller-less Drone concept gets rid of such risks and uses the #Dyson Bladeless Fan technology to not only become harmless but also sustainable, as it needs 40% less energy, could be up to 15 times more powerful and uses sustainable materials for several parts of the body.

Perfect solution for a RotoDyne air craft built with fiber pultruded plastic. The rotor blade tips would have the blade less fan ducts. Could even have counter rotating dual blades to amplify the lift powered by these bladeless fan ducts. Craft would be electric.

I just happened to have this exact same idea and did a little research on it. A graduate from Texas A&M University-Corpus had a very similar project but wasn't able to get it flying due to lack of thrust. I think it may because that the bladeless propeller design does better job when at motion. When taking off as a drone you have to stay stationary first which means the entrainment can not be established. Whether it can achieve a 15 times air multiplication rate during take off is very questionable. I am very interested in this project, please keep it posted and good luck!

@@johnnyllooddte3415 If every time you don't understand something, you call it insane, you will never learn anything. You can go look up Dyson's Air Multiplier tech yourself. But basically, if you have a Dyson fan or hair dryer, you will know the wind it creates is much stronger and straighter and more direct (blows further) than your normal fans or hair dryer with similar size and wattage. That's because other than the wind created directly by the internal blades, the duct design will also draw in more air behind it which creates wind indirectly, thus increasing the airflow. Another similar example (although not the same design) is turbo fan vs turbo jet, even with the same power, turbo fan is much more efficient because it's utilizing more air around it to increase thrust "indirectly".

You have to build one to check that it will really work. Theory is great, but will it produce enough lift? One thing you already have wrong is the amount of air to each unit is too small. that needs to be increased by quite a lot - which should not be a problem as it would make the unit much stronger in any case.

A regular drone use the side thrust from four propeller to change direction, two of them spin reverse from others make the drone fly statically. This design using only one propeller to compress air, so the gyro effect will make it spin and swing around. The idea was really good, but the compressor must have two propeller spin in opposite direction to void the gyro effect. Therefore , the speed of each propeller must be controllable, we can use the gyro effect to control the direction of the drone.

I don't see that prop holding up to the rotation that would be needed, and if it did surely it would deform. With the tight tolerances needed to make this work any deformation of the prop would likely seize it up or outright destroy the thing. At least with the possible weight savings you might get away with a metal prop to resolve the issue of deformation in the short run, however I still think the speeds needed to achieve a usable device would likely lose any benefits from possibly going to this design. Would be cool to try though.

Nice idea, but from aerodynamics point of view, it does not make too much sense. Propellers are efficient as they impart a small velocity change to a large mass of air. The theory states that the loading on the propeller disk needs to be as much as possible constant, so the stream-jet has no velocity gradient within its volume to eliminate/reduce turbulence which is just energy loss. Your device creates a lot of turbulence to en-train more air, this is actually how the dyson devices work, and exactly opposite of what you want, as a lot of energy will be lost in turbulence and not used to create thrust. The 'zen' of aerodynamics of propulsion is to disturb the air the least.

That's nice as long as the temperature is not too hot as to reduce lift and this sytem would likely be defeated by rain or snow. It is a wonderful concept but I would like to see it in adverse weather conditions. Seems that, with rain, the air flow could be diminished if not stopped entirely.

You're trading some higher pressure air for more lower pressure air. Trying to basically use an ejector for thrust seems to violate conservation of momentum, as ejectors are pretty bad at it. The energy lost at low pressures is surprisingly high... And the air moving through those tiny strut things and valves will only make things worse. That's my prediction anyways...
@zafosinferno888
@zafosinferno888 3 года назад
I saw comments about the lack of anti torque. That happens if the propeller has to accelerate. If not then once it is up to speed it wont have any issues. I am not sure how the design will work but if you have the prop spinning at its most efficient point and then recirculate the air that is not pushed through the valves you dont have to worry about the torque effect. BUT you ll have to worry about an other huge thing...Angular momentum. Though that could be overcome too with some clever programming, and actually use the inertia effect to the drone's advantage. And an other problem would be the Yaw, which can prolly be solved with accelerating or decelerating the prop. I would seriously love to see a prototype of this.

Taking a existing design redesigning one part of the whole should be about efficiency of that part, when its not consider redesigning the whole. I don't know why you would take a conventional drone model and replace just the motor/propeller with what at amounts to ducts, and expect the drone to be stable, let alone fly. The four motor design of a drone is specific to the characteristics of the 4 rotating propellers and the torques they cause on the airframe. With one central motor, the entire airframe will now want to rotate around the propeller (arguably impeller may be more correct) I supose you could use a counter rotating setup to get around this, but then there are the huge losses in the 4 ducts... and they are no longer necessary. Why not just direct the propeller's air flow staight down, and control pitch and yaw another way.... There are numerous issues with just replacing a drones motors/propellers with air ducts. Great effort on the video, but its a design that just doesn't seem feasible nor practical.

You’re going to need to control air flow to each of the ducts separately to aid in directional control. Then each duct will need to have axis control to deal with the torque of the main impeller and deal with the airflow disruption caused lateral direction flight. This concept adds more problems than it solves. This concept doesn’t scale up well at all. Look at the harrier jump jet. It must run at near full power just to hover. This is why even in the year 2021 we still use bladed rotors to provide vertical lift and directional control.

he already built a hair dryer impeller plane.. youre going to try to convince me that an internal wind going in the wrong directions is more efficient than an outside wind in one direction... youre insane.. leave your science degrees on the floor at the door when you leave reality

Before you start this idea, you have to study the working principles of Dyson fan carefully. It actually can't produce enough thrust and your drone won't fly.

You Wana do it reverse like 4 turbines outside sending air inside as Dyson style etc. SpAce on middle can be bigger in diameter etc. I believe it will be better design. I have few UFO style in mind that will definately worth asking upon.

Need two impellers to offset rotational force from the impeller. Would spin off
@mckenziekeith7434
@mckenziekeith7434 3 года назад
Actually the problem is even worse than that. Quadcopters use two props spinning Clockwise and two spinning counterclockwise so that they can have good yaw authority. They do this by favoring either the clockwise or counterclockwise props. Without the ability to do this, a single impeller design will have very little or no yaw authority.

prefer 4 fan then 1 fan. i dont think that single fan have lift force enought.. more big the fan, less rpm its get.. also using valve is expensive, and heavy.. then housing for that big fan is good for battery, mainboard, gyro or camera. try design it, more simple to manufacture. less component, less waste. now 3D print a prototype is easy. everyone can have one, and build final version with import component. its cheap and make that drone affordable.

There is an argument that one single large fan is more efficient that multiple smaller ones.

We got this for the toddler room ru-vid.comUgkxdzUap46p9ViXhKZf5mK_bXOb89EHxTqq because of the bladeless feature. Actually has a lot more power than I thought it would. Can still feel the air moving well 6 feet away, which is farther than I would expect from a desk fan. My daughter dropped twice and still works. I haven't checked out how long it lasts on a charge yet, but the air output was still good for the few minutes it was unplugged. My daughter also likes the color lights feature, but I don't really care for it and can be annoying to go through all the options before it turns off. Overall, happy with the purchase, especially for the price

It's no really blade less the blades that create the thrust are internal. Anyways I like it. Hopefully it is more affordable than some of Dyson's other products
@aikude
@aikude 3 года назад
The wind from the internal blades create only the Coanda effect and low pressure zone. The main thrust (up to 15X more air/thrust) comes from the rush of ambient air through the rings as a result of the effect. So the thrust is effectively bladeless.

You won’t get the x15 airflow benefits for lift generation as that extra airflow is created mostly away from the craft and cannot push upwards on it. But you’ll get a nice breeze!
@nic.h
@nic.h 3 года назад
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, if the craft is causing the downward airflow it will be experiencing an equal upwards force
@angellestat2730
@angellestat2730 3 года назад
I think the x15 number was already refuted several times, it may cause more airflow but the overall efficiency is much lower than normal fans.

This wouldn’t work the basic way a drone flys without using flight surfaces is by the counter rotating motors it’s why a helicopter has a tail rotor,that is what stops a helicopter from spinning out of control in the opposite direction of its main blades,it’s also how a helicopter turns right and left by increasing or decreasing the pitch of the tail rotors blades creating more or less thrust. Drones work differently the have counter rotating motors with opposing props that take the place of all the flight surfaces.as the drone goes left,right up,down,forward or backwards it is increasing and decreasing the speed of the individual motors capitalizing on the movement naturally created by the counter rotational forces of each motor ( when a motors shaft spins one way there is an opposite equivalent force in the other direction. So if you used 2 motors that spin in opposite directions you could go up and down but you need either more motors or flight surfaces of some kind to move any other way. With the exception of a centrally located weight that as it’s moved in a directed past the exact center the craft would move in that Sam direction by tilting it,not a very responsive machine and wouldn’t be safe at any kind of speed or turbulence, you might be onto something though if you create adjustable valves to regulate how much air would pass through to each ring and flaps to direct air flow inside of the air channel. That could work. Good first step to a great concept keep it up.

What about yaw control? You need at least 2 motors or propellers spinning in the opposite directions.
@nic.h
@nic.h 3 года назад
There are other options for yaw control that could be used, but 2 impellers is probably the cleanest solution
