You have a great personality! Thanks for the helpful instructions. It's interesting how many different methods there are depending upon the smith.

I mentor High School students in blacksmithing and knifemaking. Your videos are required homework for the kids I teach. It is amazing how much they learn.

Tell your students they're lucky! I'm fortunate enough to have some great mentors around and I've taken/paid for a good deal of courses around me and I'm now considering taking a "smithcation" (vacation) and flying out to a smithy school. I wish I would have had the opportunity to learn back in highschool.

The problem solving methods you show here on how to get the flow of the curves etc. back to how they were ( or how you want them) are golden! I learned a lot more in this one video than I have learned in quite a while from numerous other vids. Your sharing of all these tips is very much appreciated so thank you!

Another great tutorial! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I was wondering what is the total time it takes you to forge a blade to this point including forge time? Cheers!
@NeelsVandenBerg
@NeelsVandenBerg 7 лет назад
Total time is about 35 min. Actual forge time is about 6-15 min. Here is a link to a demo i did for some of my students a while ago ... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZ_b7z6JMSo.html

How to do a taper without horn on the anvil?
@rkayser89
@rkayser89 6 лет назад
What is your anvil made from? There's no ring to it- is that the anvil, or just your sound processing on the video?
@NeelsVandenBerg
@NeelsVandenBerg 6 лет назад
Rob Kayser the ring on the anvil has very little to do with what it's made from. Make sure your nail is properly cured to a steel or wooden base. That's it.

How come when I forge the blade point on my substandard homemade equipment the tip splits open?
@NeelsVandenBerg
@NeelsVandenBerg 4 года назад
It's not your equipment. You are forging cold and THAT is what is causing the split.
