I was thinking back to this exact try while watching the game today. Even as an England fan, I remember being amazed as I watched it. How the mighty have fallen.

I think the crowd reaction is superb here...almost as good as the try itself!

Such flair, and possibly one of the best if not the best tries ever seen in the 5/6 nations that was the French. They beat England often back then. This match though England won & with it the Grand slam although the French wouldn't lie down. Love to see a try like that later today, this time from England. 🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉

Le panache français.... C'était une autre époque.... Avec la professionalisation , le jeu est devenu plus dur, la technique individuelle et le jeu collectif ont évolué vers plus d'efficacité. Cela ne permet plus d'actions comme celle-ci et bien d'autres.

This is probably the greatest try ever scored. The Barbarians try is also great but it must be counterbalanced by the fact that it was an exhibition game. Sadourney's try against NZ is also a great one but Saint-André's try is better for sheer skill and improvisation. The French go 100 metres and hardly have a finger put on them. Camberebero's two kicks in quick succession and at full speed are just out of this world. I find it hard to think of a such a brilliant try scored in a competitive game or when the game was still in the balance. Easy to point to long-range tries when the score is no longer in doubt. Not so much when the game is in the balance.

I remember watching that try. Completely typical of France as the flair team. Amazing five nations which France should have won. Unbelievable from both sides. They played each other in the World Cup seven months later and one of the most brutal games ever

2 anecdotes sur ce match. La première, j'avais rencontré Franck MESNEL dans son premier magasin à Paris et lui avais, dit que l'EDF pourtant grande favorite allait perdre ce match. Avec un grand sourire et ses rictus, il m'avait certifié le contraire. La deuxième, Didier CAMBERABERO merveilleux sur l'essai, avait raté une transformation sur un autre essai qui aurait donné le match nul (21/19). Devant mon petit écran surpris de sa mauvaise technique pour buter, je lui avais écrit, lui communiquant certains ajustements, pour améliorer ses tentatives face aux perches. Pour les anciens je rappelle qu'il tapait avec la pointe du pied sur le ballon posé droit comme un I et donc sur le ventre mou (façon ROMEU). Mes conseils, se décaler à gauche et taper avec l'intérieur du pied, pour gagner en puissance et baisser la baudruche ovale vers les poteaux, pour avoir une surface moins large, afin de mieux centrer la frappe pour une une meilleure trajectoire de l'ogive. Didier m'avait gentiment répondu et remercié, il a changé par la suite sa façon de buter avec une bien meilleure réussite, véridique....
